Father Mike, this spoke to me today. I am an alcoholic, and for many years struggled with binge drinking. I am now only drinking to drinks once a month for a dinner outing. I know that if I take that 3rd drink I am sinning, because every time I made that decision to keep going it got all night. I can now say for almost a year now I have stopped this behavior, I owe it all to my God 🙏

It has not ceased to amaze me that the Lord has brought me to EXACTLY the right place at EXACTLY the right time to hear what I needed to hear, whether it was here or in person Mass. Dear God thank you for Fr. Mike and the other Fathers who I have heard homilies of, of the songwriters whose lyrics opened my eyes and my heart, and even for the non-Christian musicians and people around me who have inspired, relaxed, comforted, or challenged me. thank you Fr. Mike for mentioning a 12 Step perspective on finding God. 39 years ago I attended a family meeting at a rehab; the speaker said "we have been given a great gift." I thought what a bunch of horse hockey that is. But it is true...through the 12 Steps I found out that God was my Higher Power and came to the Catholic Church.

God hear my prayers. Having two sons with special needs is overwhelming at times because they require so much from me. As a single mother things are difficult. I keep faith in you Jesus even as I struggle to pay rent, and as I struggle to buy groceries for my children. Every month is a battle. But God gives me strength as has been by my side. My job makes me angry and stressed but I have to work. We can’t always get rid of things that remove our joy.

I thought the same and have felt trapped at my job too. Until I thought do I have to work here or can I do the same or similar work elsewhere so I stop allowing my job to rob me of joy. I did make a job change after resisting it for almost 10 years and I’m happier now. But I did spend a year prior to my job change praying everyday to help me be open and see possibilities, and I intentionally didn’t try deciding or choosing any option. I was just trying to explore and open up. Idk if that’s helpful to you at all to share my story, but either way I’ll pray for you to either have more joy in your current job or that an option that can give you all you are looking for comes to you soon. ❤
