Great show... Must say Allan yo got Sars Cov2 or covid (mi 40) hope you are better now. Another question is Sars Cov2 nose first, lungs second or lungs first? Or both same. Time. For parctical. Approach does not matter

My brain is experiencing some kind of flashback phenomenon: everytime I hear PCR, I immediately think Pulse Code Modulation. When the heck was I involved with that? 40 or 50 years ago? Sheesh!

We should do a test ... go back in time and make it so the Nile either stops existing or gets a new name; then we go back to the future and check if the disease is still called West Nile Fever! Am I being too mathematical?

Not to be nitpicky Vincent but you are wrong that West Nile has nothing to do with the Nile river. The Nile river starts in Uganda... but you are right that it has nothing to do with Egypt

1:42:00 But multiple countries did eliminate poliovirus from their populations by using only IPV (& as a consequence skipped the step of vaccine derived polio). So why do they not see polioviruses (including vaccine derived) in wastewater surveillance, unless from a recent international visitor? Making the mistake in assuming that only vaccination can eliminate an infectious pathogen from a population, forgetting that multiple public health measures combined are needed to reduce replication & transmissions to the point of elimination.

From a cost benefit and/or strictly health outcome I wonder what is the best dollar spent. Sanitation? Environmental? Food quality? Exercise? BMI? Supplements? Drugs? Vaccines?

Not a fan of NdGT, if you get him on I'll just skip that episode (like I skip the Mark Martin episodes of TWiM), but you'll more than make up for the loss of me on that one.

What Alan says from around 42:30 is a conclusion I came to re colds and flu long before SARS 1 let alone SARS 2. Clever me! You're going to get a lot of push back on that one Alan! A lot of well paid non essential workers being told to stay at home during the early pre vaccine part of the pandemic aren't too happy at the nagging realisation that a load of poorly paid essential workers eg the unskilled labour that is employed to keep hospitals clean and without whom the greatest of surgeons are rendered useless. Or they are going to have to use a lot of their valuable time scrubbing the theatre before getting into their scrubs.

Do you guys have any idea what the state of our countries are in because people simply do not go to work? Businesses are failing because no one comes to work. Who is going to support all these people. Yes if you are very ill you stay home but for every sniffle?? In Texas with the extreme heat you had workers dying because they were afraid of losing pay and jobs if they took too many breaks. Now there they needed to stay home. Heat will kill even the healthy people. We went through hell when the powers that be just said oh just work from home. There are lots of people who cannot do this due to the nature of their jobs. Like you like getting your groceries? Guess what that won’t work. Shelves will be empty. And you will starve. That is 100 percent deadly. This attitude really bugs me🇨🇦

Good luck with that... it has became political so many people won't put on a mask or stay at home even if they are dying.

For a large part of humanity, who are intellectually or educationally not equipped to understand scientific topics, it cones down to deciding which information/informant to trust. I estimate, that this applies to the majority of humans. These types of people will not watch shows as these, or even become upset by them, for the simple reason, that they are unable to understand the content, and how it is presented. Because almost everyone thinks they are smart enough to understand everything and to have an informed opinion about everything, people will be suspicious of things they cannot understand. This is simply because they believe, if it were the truth, they should be able to intrinsically "undersrand" it.
