Dean Jacobs that wouldn’t work either. If you recall the episode where they introduced Walden, Charlie had 3 mortgages on the house. That is consistent with the early season where Charlie meets up with his accountant and finds out he’s spending far more than his royalties coming in. In that episode, Alan mentioned that Charlie had 3 mortgages. Should Alan not be guilty and sell the house, he’d have to pay through the mortgages first and give Evelyn her commission, which after the fact would leave him with very little remaining. Which was why he moved in with Evelyn before getting taken in by Walden.

Dean Jacobs but recall the episode where Alan sold the house to Walden. Evelyn herself said Alan was lucky to break even after the mortgage payments, closing costs, etc. and her commission. From that scene alone showed Alan would have very little after the sale. Which is why he continued to carry on as the broke, dependent man he’s always been after his divorce.

Uh the lawyer thing shouldn't have matter. Lawyers are required by a specific code of ethics to provide the absolute best legal service they can to their clients, regardless of circumstances. If there is a conflict they either suck it up or quit, that's it. His lawyer screwing him over is a complete violation of her duties and Alan could've easier gotten her disbarred, gotten a new lawyer and gotten a much more fair arrangement.

If you think about it, Charlie had no right to complain about Alan and Jake living in his house. Besides, it was pretty much Charlie's fault that Alan's lawyer cost him everything in his divorce settlement with Judith. You know something I have wondered is why neither Charlie, nor Alan, grew a beard during the course of the series.
