You're the same person. Psychiatric drugs typically affect only a small handful of neurotransmitters in the brain or less. What people don't realize is how drastically their experience of life differs when these things are altered even a little bit, and people get used to how it was before and think "Oh but if this changes who will I be? I won't recognize myself anymore" and then don't want to take the medicine, but like those little things aren't YOU. YOU are the person who gets to live their life and make decisions about what's best for you, and if you take a medication and it changes your life for the better in ways you didn't even realize needed changing, then that's good! If it changes things for the worse, you can simply stop taking the medication after consulting with your doctor about how to do that. But yeah your little brain chemicals can have a HUGE impact on how you feel and behave and that's not necessarily the defining aspect of your personality, and people have a hard time processing how greatly these things can affect them
@LaurenPebble14 күн бұрын
I’m the real me. Not to get real on a 9 year old comment, but taking psychiatric medication has allowed me to be the realest version of myself and actual enjoy life to the fullest. Without I’m not the person I’m supposed to be. My illness can fuck right off, I’d rather be the real me on drugs than a shell of myself off drugs.

The most interesting thing to me with this how James got his voice. Guy Chihi was interested in the taking the part because his daughter wanted to try for Laura. He only had so much experience with drama. It's almost as if they hired him on the spot. The acting is so atrociously ornate that I wind up liking it. Also, it's interesting to see Pat go for the Water ending since the creators kind of consider it the "Bad" ending for James.

Not too much of fan of this ending Maria-James doesn't really learn from his mistakes and ends up with Maria who has Mary's disease. James is destined to repeat his mistakes again. They're all canon, up to the player etc. I think the In Water ending is the canon ending in my mind anyway. Supposedly James disappeared in Silent Hill if you go by what's stated in SH4 about James vanishing in Silent Hill. Official novelization has the In Water ending. But personally I just enjoy the hypocrisy of how he stops Angela from offing herself and yet he kills himself anyway. Plus it fits in nicely with the morbid Japanese Horror theme of no-one lives, everyone gets punished by evil spirits before dying.

Matt you may be thinking of Wind Waker; Link's eyes would track certain puzzle elements. This rather dubious design was lost on most players looking at the back of his head most of the time.
@BulletFodder809 жыл бұрын
I remember the instruction manual for Wind Waker pointed that out, actually. I liked the amount of detail that brings, but as you said, Link is usually facing away from the player whenever you're near something applicable enough. The only time I found it useful was, I think, during the Ghost Ship segment or something similar, where I was in a dark room having to fight those colored chirping little enemies with the tiny pitchforks. One of them kept hiding on the ceiling or something and I couldn't see it, but Link could if I turned him around.

[On static] Noped out of SH1 due to the static. Scared me too bad when I was 13-14 years old. It's even more effective then simply having the monster make monster noises off camera. The loud static lends the feel of closeness to a threat that's actually pretty safely far away

The second Silent Hill movie is incredibly fun to watch, mostly because of how ridiculous is it. From Sean Bean and Kit Harington(Jon Snow from GOT) barely trying to sound American, to the story that's either not there or gets dumped on you in expositions, to Pyramid Head basicly becoming a FF-summon that fights Carrie-Anne Moss as a rejected Cenobite. There's a scene where a character gets introduced only to be killed off by a mannequin doll head spider thing. It's hilarious to watch.

The original Silent Hill(s) always has this really interesting design where every room you go in feel like it's important area, even when there's nothing important in there. what i have an issue with when it comes to the static is that you know exactly when you're safe. i find it MUCH creepier whenever you don't know that the threat is gone as opposed to having a noise that says, "okay the monsters are gone don't worry"
@alexf83148 жыл бұрын
The thing is i would feel that way aswell if it was just a typical horror game where all the scares come from the enemies and fighting them... but Silent Hill is just so much more than that. Its the storyline, the subtleties and the atmosphere of the game that really make this game so great and the fact that you know when you're in an area where there is no need for combat actually assists in being able to properly experience and really enjoy exactly what makes Silent Hill 2 so outstanding.

Alchemilla Hospital is the main hospital for the town and Brookhaven IS the Psychiatric Hospital, HOWEVER, it’s first floor is used for general treatment as well. It’s not uncommon at all for psychiatric wards to do that. My town has 6 general clinics, 2 main hospitals, and 2 mental hospitals

21:00 They should have mentioned that this combination is randomized with every playthrough to the point where the numbers on the bloody wall change as well, it's not a static image.

Personally, SH3 is my favorite in the series. SH1 still manages to actually scare me, SH2 feels like an art film that I like but doesn't resonate with me as much as the other two titles I just mentioned. I understand why it would be the favorite for most, but I feel a little sad that the other titles by Team Silent doesn't get just as much love. I'm frustrated that when the hands went to a western company they concentrated way too much on trying to replicate what they THOUGHT SH2 was about; like I said, SH2 is like an artistic film I like and just like Hollywood they took an art film, for example Der Himmel über Berlin and turned it into City of Angels...with Nicholas Cage....yeah, fuck you Tom Hulett.

Loving this play through. Wouldn't mind seeing SH3 done too.

I think the reason Laura is doing so well for herself is the fact that she's a child, and hasn't "sinned" in her previous life like the other characters have. She therefore has no monsters that could be modeled after her life mistakes. I'd say she's there solely to "help" James realize what he's done, but Eddie sees her as well.

On PT: I was one of the first streamers who had the formula down to a T, within a few days. Definitely not random. Me and a few others even speedran it enough to hold the record at least once. I’m sure you guys already know, since it’s 2018. But I just wanted to drop my two-cents. Good series though. Loving it!

I think the worst fear is the fear of the unknown. Imagine playing silent hills and it being different every time. That is horror.

Went to the hospital for the first time today, naturally after catching up on this playthrough. Fortunately the scariest thing that happened there was an awkwardly placed IV needle.

This video didn't age well. Talking about the horror dream team behind night cry which turns out to be not great and griping about game play bugs in PT that surely won't be in the full release of silent hills. Oh it hurts.

Matt, you're right about the headtracking in Zelda, its a feature in Wind Waker that, if I'm remembering correctly, the player is also not informed about. Link will look at traps or important areas so you can check to find out what to do next if you're stuck in a dungeon or something.

What I like about the static is that it usually shows up in the horror genre because there's a ghost around, and it presents the idea the ghost is everywhere/materializing from around you. But in Silent Hill, it's coming from the fact that there's an abomination of nature around, just emanating creepy bullshit.
@m1kel0n9 жыл бұрын
I think one of the first games that did the head-tracking thing was Grim Fandango. Although, Matt might be talking about Fatal Frame.

If i'm not mistaken the "head turning" mechanic was also utilized in Resi 2. I remember that key items sparkled, but I vaguely remember them turning their heads to look at things too.
@LinkAlmightyCDC9 жыл бұрын
Matt, you're actually right about item/head tracking in Zelda. In Wind Waker, Link's eyes would look in the direction of something of interest. I think they might have had Link turn his head in later games as well, but I'm not sure about that.

This is my favorite playthrough from the Golden Age of the Zaibatsu so far. I looked up the endings for Silent Hill 2 which lead me to P.T.. I have no real first-hand interactions with the Silent Hill series besides playing the first 2 hours of 1 and 3 - so people who know about Silent Hill: How Un/Hyped are you about Kojima and Del Toro sloshing their dicks in the Silent Hill Hole?
@NARATO09 жыл бұрын
Considering del Toro did PL which was a freaky damn movie image what del Toro can do with the fucked up shit in silent hill + he and kojima consider the series a masterpiece
@Xandy7439 жыл бұрын
If this is the Golden Age arc, does that mean Pat will sacrifice the rest of the Zaibatsu at the end in order to attain normal people height/hair/more crack?

*Cautiously looking foward to it*. Kojima did a great job with P.T. and he's a great producer/director (I like MGS almost as much as SH), but some of his decisions worry me. Using Norman Reedus likeness, or any famous actor's, for a Silent Hill game feels very off, and trying to bring Silent Hill to broader audiences didn't bring many "good" results. Also, the Concept Trailer, as great as it was, seemed to dense in its horror, feeling kind of like a Halloween haunted house. Guillermo is a good creature designer, but his designs don't fit very well the aesthetics of Silent Hill. We'll have to wait and see. Unless Junji Ito is actually involved, which would be *amazing*. I still want to see how it is going to be like, and don't think it will be bad at all. It _may_ not be great as the original Silent Hill games, but, well, _nothing is, really_. At the very least, it is going to be *much* better than anything we've had recently and, probably, an amazing horror game. I'd like if members of Team Silent like Hiroyuki Owaku, Masahiro Ito, Akira Yamaoka, Takayoshi Sato and even Keiichiro Toyama were somehow involved in it, though. even if just for overseeing the project and giving advice.

"I'd be really bummed if the actual game was like that." - Matt on PT This sums up how I've felt about this demo from day one. Spoopie or not spoopie, it wasn't Silent Hill, or even much of a game.
@mastermarkus53079 жыл бұрын
I get what they were trying to do with it, but once you _know_ "Oh my god, new Silent Hill game" it doesn't really have any "magic" to it.
@bigshrimpin694209 жыл бұрын
I think P.T. was made to kind of introduce the story with the things you hear on the radio and show off what the game will look like, while also kinda giving you a sense of how the game will be scary, more than just throwing it out there as just what the game will be. If Silent Hills is going for more of an atmosphere thing instead of monsters everywhere, like some of the more recent ones, as the trailer suggests, I think it could be one of the best Silent Hill games.
@kraajkase9 жыл бұрын
But it was never, EVER meant to be a real game!! It's a common misconception that a lot of people seem to have.

The Forbiden Siren series was created by the same creator of Silent Hill. Keiichiro Toyama, who wrote the story for SH 1. After that he left the game and handle the script in the hands of Hiroyuki Owaku for SH 2 and 3.
