I'm glad you explained the Glute Medius Hip Thrust works the grounded leg mostly. I always assumed I was doing poor form when feeling it on that leg, but now I know it was all correct!! Thanks Bret

Good mornings w/ barbell, hip thrust w/ barbell add bands to mimic gluteator, hip abduction with bands, there's not a great excercise for hip adduction without a machine(sumo squats are your best bet for that), save up for a 45 degree hyper its less than $200. If you can get a barbell and plates you can get a 45 degree hyper. Then the rest are literally barbell and dumbbell excercises.

Always good to learn from you. I'm way quad dominant. I wish my gym had a gluteator machine. Something you could try to hit quads hard are front squat box squats. They build massive quads. Even when I was only using 365 on them they blew up. Also reverse lunges with the bar in front squat seems to help a ton plus it feels really good on the knees. Obviously I don't have the background you do. Just saying from an outside perspective.

I watched this and ended up having questions. So if the machine that you do the low back extension with is discontinued what are your other recommendations? I also noticed that with the glute medius hip thrust the ankle and foot on the bent leg come back behind the standing leg almost like a curtsy. Which lets me know that I've been doing it wrong. And I like the idea of flexing the hips with the Nordic curl.

Just curious but instead of heavier, why not use slow eccentrics and pause reps? Or is that a different meso for you? Thank you! I'm very curious 🙏😊
@iamfuckingyourwaifuandther2743
@iamfuckingyourwaifuandther2743 Жыл бұрын
Those are light reps for him. He's doing 15+ reps on pretty much every exercise. Also I don't think slow eccentrics and pause reps make much of a difference as long as you are close to failure.

I did not. So exhausting addressing everyone. Disappointed in Mike...it's like he completely ignored the latest study we published. And he doesn't apply the same logic as he did with the hip thrust to upper body exercises he loves. Whatever. So many haters.

Any advice on performing hip thrusts and experiencing chest pain? Whenever I try to set up initially to get the weight on my hips into the starting position I strain my chest muscle... Is the bench too high or is my form off perhaps? Everyone talks about back pain with hip thrusts but no one talks about chest pain 😪

You did a lot of 25 to 30 rep sets. Does that reflect a shifting opinion on rep range for glutes, at least on some of the 'easier' movements? Personally I do find them effective, but anything over 20 reps is still rarely recommended if only due to tradition.
@elettramia6380
@elettramia6380 10 ай бұрын
Why is over 20 rarely recommended? I am Trying to figure this out. I’m starting to think I do too many reps for muscle growth. I’m confused 😩

Bret, why don’t you use a band instead of a dumbbell for the glute medias hip thrust? Also, why are you squatting and deadlifting in running shoes? Respectfully as an Accredited S&C Coach this is a big no no! You need to feel the ground underneath your foot, so you can create a good foot tripod and feel the weight distribution.
@bretcontreras1
@bretcontreras1 Жыл бұрын
With the db (and plates), you feel a lot of momentum going into the stretch. Same with the bottom of a lateral raise when you go heavy...trying to control it and slow it down on the way down is brutal. Second, you'd need a long band as you would stretch it a ton...this would likely impact your ability to stay braced on an upright. I've squatted and deadlifted barefoot, in squat shoes, in Chucks, in slippers, on wedges, etc. I don't see much of a difference with squats no matter what I do...and with deads I just prefer barefoot when I'm going for a PR.

Massive fan Bret and I say this with the most respect. With all that us floating around such as squat with appropriate footwear/feet and honing in on correct form with exercises like deadlifts, in this video you displayed neither. Those deadlifts were brutally bad and squatting in those nike free runs, yikes.

I prefer stiff legging with shoes on so it's a small deficit. We've come a long way since 10-20 years ago when we denounced everyone who rounds...I don't hurt my back very often and I've found a form that works well for me. I don't find that shoes impact my squat strength much, so I don't care that much about it. People make a bigger deal out of footwear than I think is necessary
