I dunno, I'd say Piccolo had his development on a similar way of Vegeta, just way more quick and less relevant. My favourite moments in Z were him killing both Goku and Raditz, him sacrificing himself for Gohan (a quite quick change from evil to good but a nice one), then he just gets stronger by absorbing other namekians which I'll say its quite a sick idea. Then when he reunites with Kami it's implied he's become the original namekian the plot talked about at the OG Dragon Ball, which is mythic. He then does fall off a lot on the buu saga, but still I'd give him a high A or a low S.

Its weird to say but I'd personally put Goku right next to Vegeta. I think Super has had a lot of influence on me. I know people don't like Super Goku but I honestly enjoy seeing him actually BE a main character alongside Vegeta. Most of Z It was: Everyone else fight villain, Goku shows up, Goku is strong guy! Goku and team win! There was never any character for Goku and I think Super (especially early Super) gave us an actual genuine friendship with Goku and Vegeta which was enjoyable to watch. We also saw a light hearted side to Goku which fits the OG dragon ball idea of him being an isolated monkey boy who knew nothing of the world.

Raditz honestly deserves better. Without him, everything that happens in Z and in Super would have never happened. Think about it: - Piccolo and Goku would still be at each other's throats. - Gohan would be a weak scholar, essentially Chi-Chi's ideal son. - Goku would have never learned the Kaioken, Spirit Bomb, and unlocked Super Saiyan. - Bulma and Yamcha would be together (which does sound nice, only once you remember the Future timeline). - Vegeta would have never come to Earth, marry Bulma, and give birth to Trunks. - Frieza would still be on a planetary genocidal spree. - Goku would have died of the heart virus. - Androids 17 and 18 would embark on an unholy rampage across Earth, killing all of the Z-Fighters. And without Trunks, potentially all of humanity would be wiped out. - Babidi and Dabura may move on to reawaken Majin Buu, thus destroying the entire universe. All of this stuff would have happened, had not Raditz gone to Earth.

Was the heart virus something he definitely gets on Earth? I know for a lot of people it's headcanon that he caught it on Yardrat, but I don't recall if it's ever been stated explicitly where he caught it. It could even be argued that without everything that came before, he could have just as easily not caught it even if it's an Earth virus. Without having to push himself so much training, he may have spent a lot more time at home and never come into contact with it.

If from Namek or Yardrat, and then came back to Earth, he could have been the one to spread it to humans, thus they then can study it and develop a treatment. Trunks' cure wasn't exactly a traditional vaccine, given our time line's Goku didn't start taking it until after he was having symptoms. Vaccines are a preventative measure, not a treatment. One big problem with figuring it out is viral latency, and presumably the virus would have to slowly make it's way to the heart before the major symptoms start to show. That said, I don't think a virus would remain dormant so long he would have caught it as a child and it only started acting up in his 30's. While absolutely not the same kind of virus, Rabies can take as long as 6 years before the symptoms start, so with that as an example, Goku's got a large window to catch the virus, both on and off Earth. Thinking about it though, how ironic would it be if he caught it in Otherworld?

Piccolo is arguebly one of the most badass characters. He almost killed Goku in OG Dragon Ball, took Nappa's blast protecting Gohan like a boss, showed 2nd Form Frieza his place, matched Android 17 in strength. Has a great character devolopment. Is one of the main reasons for Gohan's devolopment. The Buu Saga and DBS ruined Piccolo badly.
