Two suspects connected to disappearance of Vanessa Guillen

One suspect is dead and another is in custody in connection with the disappearance of Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen. Private First Class Guillen went missing from the base on April 22. Mireya Villarreal reports.

As someone that serves, no personell would defend the suspects and are equally frustrated with her disappearance and death. The dead suspect killed themselves because they knew if they had been arrested, the whole unit would be after them as well. As with all things army, it took so long because there is a process to everything. Unfortunately the command should have reacted more urgently. Either way, Fort Hood is too large to shut down because it's the focal point where many Soldiers on deployments leave and return. As much as the family wants to shut down fort hood. It'll never happen.

We don't know if she made a sharp report or not, or what her situation was. They falsely accounted for her during head count the afternoon of the 22nd, when she went missing. So at the very latest an investigation would have been started the 23rd when she didn't report for duty or answer her cell phone. That's the process - not wait two months and finally begin to investigate.

If soldiers, airmen, and/or sailors commit a crime they get tried by the military justice system, not the public/local one. That’s why info is released in cases that aren’t connected to the military and ones that are connected to the military don’t give out much information most likely until the case is closed.

I was in 3ACR years ago. Sad about Spc Guillen but I'm not shocked. In that particular unit there were stories of rampant assaults, harrasment, and soldiers having relationships with superiors. I feel so sorry her family.

Killeen isn't the same. Back in the day, we could go on base and go to clubs and come back home. Now, u can't do that. It's crazy to even know that someone in the military did something wrong to her now they won't say what or who. It's scary. I'm praying for justice for this young lady. She went in the military to make a better life for herself not to be sexually harassed In the military.
