Have loved Ty's tone for year. What a phenomenal, underrated guitar player. This man can stand toe to toe with any Axe Slinger.

Met Ty and the other guys too. They are the nicest guys I've ever met. I took a friend of mine to see them at the NJ food truck and rock carnival (my 13th time seeing them) and my buddy, who is super into punk and hardcore was blown away by them and said they were one of the tightest bands he's ever seen. Ty needs an entire issue devoted to him!!!

King's X is the best band of all time. I just wish that they would come back here to central florida! Missing them on a tour is a awful feeling.
@ideazinc14 жыл бұрын
I think that much like people that have sensory limitations, bands that have less members force the existing ones to make more music and ultimately their musicianship grows exponentially faster and larger than bands with more limited roles. King's X is an example of this that falls in line with Rush, Primus, White Stripes, etc. What a beautiful thick tone Ty brought to guitar playing in a time when squealy, high pitch was the norm. Thanks for posting.

Love Kings X and especially Ty. I've always wondered what he was using, thanks for posting! He says it's a simple rig, but I would have trouble figuring it out. His distorted sound is so huge and clean (never fuzzy) I can't get enough!

It's cool to see a more in-depth look at Ty's setup. The Egnater/Randall module series is incredible and every player should check it out! BTW, that's a Rockman Sustainor and Stereo Chorus Ty has in the rack (but he didn't mention them). :-) Thanks for posting this!

Ty proves to us an important point when he plays. You can either play the guitar or you cannot, the gear is just personal preference of the player.

My guitar is wired exactly like this. two dbl coils split for series, parallel and single with a toggle switch to get bridge, both or neck only. But I don't have the amps and stuff. :(

@PaulP1972 i read an interview years ago where he said that when everyone heard eddie van halens tone they wanted to copy it.whereas ty decided to just get his own sound. youre absolutely right. underrated and a total tone chaser!!!

Egnater made a Lab Series module to go in there called the Ty Module. Ty's getting back to that amazing tone that he got tired of fixing for more reliable Mesa amps.

My life would be happier if I discovered this band before!! The chords, the lyrics, the mix... Everything is perfect. Maybe you gonna like Extreme's "Three Sides To Every Story" or Soundgarden "Superunknown"

I have the Egnater Renegade, a 2 channel head, with both 6L6 and EL34 tubes, which you can assign to either channel, or blend together. You can also do the tube biasing like Ty demonstrates here. It's a great head, and good value for money too.

How is there not a compressor in that rig? This is the first time I saw this video but I been listening and loving these guys for years now and would have bet money there was a compressor working overtime somewhere in that signal chain.

Let's be realistic ... you could equip Ty with a beaten Tele and some 70ies transistor amp and he will sound GREAT. He - as many other players - is prove to that "the sound is in the fingers". So while I enjoy watching Ty touting different gear over the years I also notice that his great tone is independent from the gear he is currently endorsing.

Funny... Ty never even mentions the Tom Scholz Rockman modules in his rig: Sustainor and the Stereo Chorus/Delay. Walk On!!
@aliensporebomb2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too... There are some parallels between Ty's "first four records" tone and the Scholz Rockman distortion. But notice that the only unit that's on is the chorus/delay!

What is the blue and black unit in his rack? The one that looks like it is divided in two ( left and right ) and it is directly below the Line 6 Echo effect. ? What is that exactly?

There's an Alesis MidiVerb II and below that looks like a Rockman noise gate, possibly. The resolution is not high enough for me to read the panel.

Actually, it is required for Ty to cover all his tone bases, especially King's X has been recording and performing since the late 1980s. "Dogman" style tones are great for that era of the band, but might not fit for "Gretchen" or "Faith Hope Love". If you're a player, and been playing a while, you know how much has changed since the hair band days. It's a tonal time machine, if you will. And for Ty, it is a requirement.

4:40 Good ole Christain incredulity. It's 2012 and almost 2013. LOTS of software is available now that DO emulate tube amps REALLY accurately. He prob also thought that digital was inherently cold and harsh. Stick to playing guitar, Ty!

@Musicman11707 жыл бұрын
TruthSurge know ty...and he'd never divulge his sound. I found this video hilarious. It's quite obvious to me that he didn't want you or anyone else to know what he plays through, truly. In the early days he'd play through for grins lats just say, randall cabs or Marshall cabs, but the guts were not those of the name on the cabs/heads
@brianjones84326 жыл бұрын
Nah, he was just being honest at the time. This was 09. He's the first one to tell you, and in fact there is a vid of an interview where he walks through it, that he used Fractal amp modeling for every single guitar tone on one of the later albums. So he did end up adopting the use of digital in a very big way. This just happens to be before he started using it.
