As a kid in 80’s I was strictly panosh, and had like most of line, as a kid who loved the show, the fact you could actually put pilots IN lions and play with them as figures too, it was dream come true lol, there was no blitzway back then, panosh was closest it got play wise lol

In 4th or 5th grade, a buddy and I swapped my TF Ravage and his Matchbox Green Lion for a week. That Friday we swapped back. I set my Ravage cassette inside my desk storage compartment with my books. At the end of the day, it was gone. Someone had stolen my nearly brand new Ravage! To this day I am still bitter about both of these toys.

I had the Matchbox version. My absolute favorite toy. My brother broke the top wing portion off the right wing. Then. My cousin broke a foot off of the green lion. One of the connector lock springs came out during disassembly. It fell apart, in short. It became my Eleanor (Gone in 60 sec reference.) for multiple years. Now, at 46 I have 4 of them (Lego, Toynami, Legendary Defender, and GameStop/Playmates 84 classic) lol.

Voltron is basically the PowerRangers of the 80's.. but less fruity.

5:15 I remember in the earlier 80's during my childhood I ask my mother for that exact voltron. The one with the firing mechanisms (as you said) and I recived it for my birthday.
@Ben7seven73 жыл бұрын
3:48 yeah you have both the legs and arms on the wrong spots on that one. Also you're right about the locking mechanism wearing out when getting a lot of use. I had the Asian Go Lion version back when I was a kid which came with all the accessories. Later as the Matchbox Voltron branded one was available with individual lions I got a couple of them to replace my Go Lion version. One thing I liked better on the Matchbox black lion is the connections where you put the arms in were gold plated instead of yellow plastic on the Go Lion.

Wow!! Amazing!! You're a Voltron Specialist!!

The pullbak was made by LJN, which also made one that was about half the size of the motorized one called the assembler. The limb lions and the black lion for the Assembler do not transform, and it comes with no action features or weapons. It's more accurately a very early 3d puzzle.

I have all those Voltrons except the Matty. But my favorite one is one that you don't have there. It is the model kit Super Minipla Voltron. I think it looks and poses awesome!

So the set I ended up getting in the 80s was called LionBot. It had all the projectiles and weapons. All that stuff would shoot out. The only other difference was the face was black instead of blue. I still have it today, although I lost ALL the weapons.
@Ben7seven73 жыл бұрын
I also have the Soul of Chogokin gx-71 original pre-order which has the gold ears and all the weapons. Hands down this is the best Voltron of this type to date and it appears to have shot up in value since I got it. Also there's a new Voltron now which just became available for pre-order by Carbotix which is insanely expensive at $700 but it looks great and I just placed my pre-order on that one as well.

I wish I would have taken care of it. Right now I only have the Voltron of the 1998 3D cartoon.

FJ has grown on me I have to admit. I really enjoy the gift set I got from TF Direct they took good care of me when I needed missing parts. Classic 84 is a really cool toy I love it. It took a three foot dive off my shelf but nothing broke! Expensive now. Good luck getting finding a red lion.

Im learning about all the types of Voltron. Thanks for doing this video. So all of these are combining, but what about all the robot figures only? Do you collect the action figure Voltrons that do not transform? I have yet to use any in person, but im buying some.
@kirbymarchbarcena4 жыл бұрын
I gotta agree that no matter how great the robot versions are, these are not much fun to play unless there are numbers of Robeasts for Voltron to match with. One of my cousins instead played his Voltron figure with a 12" rubber Godzilla and other plastic monsters he could hold on to.

I had all three Voltron's (Voltrons I - III) when I was a kid, but got rid of them *sigh* I now have the Soul Of Chogokin Lions Voltron
@Ben7seven73 жыл бұрын
I had all three Vintage Voltrons as well but sold then off roughly a decade ago as I got some of the nicer newer versions coming available, I got a decent price for them even tho I was selling them at basically wholesale to a comic shop. I don't really regret selling them as I do like my new versions a lot more.

My Go Lion is original from Japan. You've triggered faint memories of my mom taking me to a toy store that, I guess, specialized in Asian import toys. Getting that set was a BIG DEAL for me cuz that was a lot of money for us. I think MAYBE it was $130 CAN.

I bought my kids control robots that were huge and were made of metal. This would have been in the early to mid 90s. I'm trying to find out which toy that was so I can look for one on eBay. Does anyone have some options as to what you that would have been? It would disassemble into the individual lions or ask go together into a large robot. Plus it wasn't made of plastic. Any help is appreciated...

Wow, Nice. I only have one: my diecast Lion bot from childhood. I still have the box too, but its pretty beat up. I was thinking of getting that Soul of Chogokin one, but I didn't like that is wasn't MP scale. Need him to be Zeta height now, and I need it to be fully articulated with diecast. Hey do/did you also have Robotix?
