Good video. Not too many videos on M.U.G.E.N. As for online, that's been spotty over the years. There were several attempts to get an online version of MUGEN up and running but it seemed that the scattered community was what kind of held that back for a time. At one point there were 2 or 3 different online MUGEN engines going around and that makes it hard to decide which one the community should be using. I didn't lurk too much in the forums of the sites so there are likely many other reasons but that's what I've gleamed over several years of playing and checking out MUGEN sites.

Some negatives many can tell you were gatekeeping of characters or stages and stealing etc which is why there are several communities in Mugen not just one. Glad people are still playing this and if you are new to this remember to always be patient because projects or characters can take YEARS to finish I recently got a character that I wanted to for my collection that took 9 years in the making.

Edit: The creators of the software that you use to make mugen content are making a build called mugenext but I wouldn't bank on that too much since the changelogs so far are minor changes. I dont see mugen as an Engine going anywhere soon or even in the far future. It was soon abandoned but revived through the fan community using a hacked version of the game server and client. It is still going 25 years later. A true masterpiece! Characters that I enjoy the most aren’t actually the normal ones, rather the cheaper, OP ones. My number 1 favorite character of all time, debatably, is Final Supreme Vegito by “Achyut & Supermystery” according to the DEF file. I LOVE this character. What can frustrate many players is that his AI is one of those broken ones that can use and cancel attacks at will making him one of the most confusing and/or jokey cheap characters in the DB section. I think that’s what makes him subjectively funny to me; he’s a kid that tries so hard to stay on task but gets distracted by another task 🙂↔️ What’s odd but interesting is that he has a ‘life-add’ trigger for Rare Akuma, another AWESOME creation, but I can’t see a difference in HP between when and when not facing him. Sorry, I just love talking about this game engine 🤭

Im not sure if you already know it, but there are fan proyects that go more far than just putting up characters, i know 4 proyects that have been around since a while exept for one, the first i want to talk about is... King Of Fighters Memorial, game that reunites all of the KOF characters into one game, it has a interesing story and some new characters and a whole screenpack (there are so many versions of this game that i dont know exactly what is the original, but from the times i played it i really had fun with the characters!) Another MUGEN that is of the same saga is KOF WING, this is pretty much better than the other one, with the characters we know and some new faces, and hell, the visuals of this game are incredible, and they recently announced that there will be a 2022 version coming out soon! The Third proyect i want to talk about is Sonic Fighter Blitz, this is a recent one and its a fighting game with some sonic characters, and i had fun playing with it as sonic, it does'nt have too much to offer, but its still worth the playing And finally, the one that i love the most: Hyper Dragon Ball Z, this game features characters of Dragon Ball Z with movesets completely different from one another destined for the competitive, all of these characters are unique, and every one of them has ultimates that are visually incredible, you can see how much effort they put into this, i highly recommend you to play it if you have'nt, because i think this game shows how far MUGEN can go.

If I download MUGEN or IKEMEN, I’ll be able to download the characters from Super Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog, Kirby, BBTAG, All Star Brawl, MultiVersus and Newgrounds Rumble.
