@mikicerise62504 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately we have even lower quality than the Rift S. ;) One thing we do have though is two OLED screens, rather than one LED screen like in the Rift S. So we have deeper, perfect blacks and in some ways better colours than Rift S, I think, plus better refresh (90Hz). But obviously just no comparison to Index or Reverb G2, even if they don't have the deepest blacks, they win on anything else. Mind you I got my CV1 for 300€, and the Reverb G2 is easily double that. But I can't say I'm not tempted. I'd have to see how much I can sell my CV1 for to mitigate the upgrade cost. I will still wait though to see the final verdict on the tracking, which I haven't seen anyone really talk about. I won't settle for anything less than the best tracking. ;)

Looking around the cockpit isn't so much the issue - that stuff still amazes me to this day. It's more the "looking out of your cockpit and trying to find and track enemy planes"-bit where you really need a sharper image. Now... all I need to do is decide on a new video card. I'd love the 4070 Ti, but I think it'll have to be the plain 4070. I don't really need the Ti's added power outside of VR and it's a little too expensive for my taste. You can clearly see some aberrations and one thing I noticed is how your blacks looks way greyer than MRTV videos, so much that sometimes the rift s and index seems to have better blacks even after Sebastian commented how superior the blacks on the G2 are. at 2:52 what are those dark blotches on black areas. didnt see that in mrtvs vids. looks like a really intense mura effect which is weird cause there mura is barely noticeable anywhere else. looks like its an issue with blending dark gray into black? and at 3:54 its not there at all. seems like its only there on still shots but not in motion. maybe its video compression artifacts. if you look at 6:23 - 6:25 (in full screen at 4k) youll see the frame change and the blotches become more apparent. thats on the rift s, so they are less obvious bc of the washed out colors and low resolution. but on the g2 its having to choose black or grey for so many small sets of pixels, to blend that gradient accurately would try to allocate a much higher bitrate (assuming its VBR), take much longer to render and create a much larger file size. so depending on the settings and behavior of the encoder, i think its hit its ceiling for how evenly it can blend the gradient at the max allowed bitrate. i dont deal with such high res footage so im not sure. but its definitely some kind of video artifact exaggerating the tiny mura pattern, which based on other through the lens shots, would be almost unnoticeable during use.

display quality is absolutely important, but contoller features (tracking lag/haptic feedback/finger tracking and a strap that let's you let go occassionally (and not throw it across the room when throwing an object in-game)) is what I am paying attention to as I research my future purchase. regardless, thank you for this informative video of two of the three units I have been considering (Index, G2 & Varjo). Your hard work and editing decisions has made this one of the best I've seen. Kudos.

@@janred94 lol i can tell you as someone who has 2 rift s HMDs in the house and one index the Rift S is far from on par with the Rift S in clarity. The look it up they are no where near like one another. The clarity of the Index over the Rift S is mind blowing even more so in Sim racing. Lighting and weather conditions wipl have a huge impact on there through the lens videos and i understand it must he hard to get a one for one like results but i can tell you from experience these through the lens videos are nonsense. Anyone who have never tried the index or the rift s would believe due to watching these that they are about the same in clarity when that is completely untrue. Do you own the Index and Rift S or tried then side by side as i did when i first got the Index?

@@janred94 also remember these through the lens videos were done using the old lenses as HP have said they are changing the lenses and i quote "for far better ones" lol you only change a major component this pate if there was an issue So now we have no idea on sweet spot and glare as the new lenses may suffer poorly on both and this is why we watch these sort of videos so for HP to change the lenses after only sending out a handful of review models has me questioning why. Why only send less than 10 units out for review and then change the lenses that were in those models. I believe it to be less sent out less problems spotted. After all the trouble with the G1 i will hold judgement until it comes out but for me going down in F9V is a no no as i am a sim racer and the sense of speed you get from a large FOV is way more important than clarity as the index is clear anyway and at 150% Ss looks great and Automobilista 2 is just a next gen for VR imo. If you like sim racing try AMS 2 and be prepared to be blown away with how good it looks.

@z0lid4 жыл бұрын
There must be different settings on Assetto corsa, on the tests. Cos only the Reverb have reflections of the foilage like the trees reflected on the cars chassi. Even if the other headsets have lower resolution, they would still reflect the same thing, but in lower resolution. But they dont reflect it at all, so the settings must be different, cos that has nothing to do with resolution.
@joyceracing994 жыл бұрын
I agree. Almost like the video poster is trying to make the G2 stand out on purpose. Kinda defeats the whole point of the video. Direct comparison.
@lavir744 жыл бұрын
The shots are obviously taken at different times. You cannot replicate perfectly the same exact parameters for both. Just a simple restart of the game can change how the scene is rendered, even when the settings are exactly the same in both instances. Many things change in the background when you restart a game: clouds, shadows, light etc. all get recalculated newly and very very rarely you obtain the same results (in fact it is almost impossible: just simply a change in the way clouds are positioned in the sky can dramatically alter the way the light plays with the environment). Watch every single graphic comparison video: if the scene has to be rendered anew you will notice many changes in lightning; in fact the more sophisticated and real time the engine is, the more the changes. In old engines, when lighting was all baked there were no changes because it was all pre-rendered, but when lighting is calculated in real time then exact shot comparisons become almost impossible to re-create.

I love that you also shared comparisons between the G2 and the original Rift and Vive, and would love to see more of this. It really puts these newer headsets into perspective, and for people like me, who to some extent contemplated buying a used last generation headset it helps with deciding what to actually get. The difference is night and day, and unless I manage to find an old headset at a really cheap price, it seems far better to go for something of the current generation, as it appears to be of an order of magnitude sharper.

@ChillaTronics014 жыл бұрын
@@Der_Joghurt_Ohne_Ecke You might be right, the upgrade in clarity does look amazing! For my money however, I think I will wait for a larger upgrade that keeps the high refresh rate of the index (going from a 144hz monitor to a 90hz screen is a huge difference!) while also improving on the fov. I agree that a higher fov isn't that much of an improvement to immersion, but imo it is a huge improvement to the overall gameplay experience to have information fed to you in your peripheral vision (e.g. I found fov and higher refresh rate to be a huge difference in games such as until you fall, and at least a moderate difference in almost every other game.) In short, while a higher resolution undoubtedly bring about a higher level of immersion, I think that the smoothness of the image and a higher peripheral vision brings about better gameplay.
@Der_Joghurt_Ohne_Ecke4 жыл бұрын
@@ChillaTronics01 90 Hz is good to play right now its smooth. if you play at 80 ye its getting to low. Fov does make a huge difference but not at this Level where the G2 and the Index are right now. Pimax has Larger Fov but the Display is just bad with all this Distortion. So believe me if you have a 170+ Fov with Crystal Clear Sharp Image over the whole Image the Immersion Difference will be Huge. And ye if you already have the Index i even dont know if i would change to the G2 because when i change Headsets i wait till the Difference is even Higher. The tracking of the G1 could keep up with beatsaber on Expert+, so considering it should be improved with the 4 cameras (it won't lose visual tracking nearly as often when you swing your arms on the side) I don't see why it wouldn't work on the G2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWTHlqiMg8ioosU kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYazea2YZb2Ko7M Also, controller tracking is irrelevant in the 3 games that are showcased in this video (asseto corsa, Elite Dangerous, and FS 2020), and resolution and graphics are not important for playing beat saber, so I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

WOW, I had no idea that the Rift S was going to look so similar to the Index in single frames. Obviously, the Index's other big selling points are the controllers, the lighthouse tracking, and the refresh-rate, but in pure image quality, it really doesn't suck. In some tests, I was concerned about color accuracy on the Reverb and wasn't convinced that the text was clearer until the frame in Elite showing that list compared to others. So much clearer. If the screen door effect doesn't bother you as much, the Rift S seems like a very solid option for relatively cheap, and you'll get a little more color accuracy. But holy moly, that clarity on the Reverb for text up close could make all the difference. I think I'll wait for whatever the next generation has to offer before upgrading from my CV1, but this is a good start for the next increment of VR.
