I'd just buy a Z06 and use the leftover money to get a daily at that point. $449k for that Mclaren seems excessive. You can get a Huracan and a Z06 for that money.

The weight difference is huge that's something not mentioned. Eray is around 750 pounds heavier then 750s and 95 hp less then the 750s that's a huge difference. Didn't expect anything different.

@rjfriedman5658 I think it's going. To be a matter of the vettes launch control and tuning .. The McLaren is only rear wheel drive. Both have the motors sitting over the rear wheels American cars Usually makes more low in torque. They can take some of that torque out of the launch with tuning.

Remember the E also cuts the electric motor on top end, thus making it a 495HP Vs 740HP. That’s 245HP and 756lbs disadvantage.

It's worse than that, McLaren rates their cars at wheel horse power. Most 720s on the dyno were achieving around ~700 at the wheel which combined with the lightness, active aero, incredible launch control/electrionics and superfast changing box is why the 720s for many years just demolished the cars in it's class for performance. So the 750s will be making well over 700whp if McLaren have kept rating at the wheel which is what I'd expect especially given the engine is a evolution of the M8840T.

@@Smzxe Ferrari historically does not like their vehicles to be instrumented tested without, their engineers being present, for “optimum accuracy and performance.” Which well, could skew the results of actual performance. We would need a private owner to graciously volunteer their car for this test to happen. Even if I do think it might have a very slight acceleration edge against the 750s. It would be interesting to see if the advantage carries into the braking and corner as well?

@@juanc5149 720s and 296 GTB both walked away from mclaren 750s. 765LT is track car but 720s was better than 765 on many tracks hockenhiem etc And Autobahn run shows 720s is even faster than Mclaren P1 and 765LT check AutoTopNL and Derek K videos 720s is the Literally the best and fastest supercar 765LT is quicker though

@@juanc5149 The 296 beats both the 765LT and 750S on Carwow's drag races, also the 765LT produces almost 900HP and the 720S at almost 800HP, so probably the 750S slots in between 765LT and 720S, all three McLaren's are lighter, very impressive for the 296 to beat all 3. The 296 also holds the record for the fastest accelerating RWD production car by Car and Driver, 0-60MPH in 2.4 seconds and ran a 9.7 at 150MPH!!

eray did exactly what it was meant to do. destroy out of the hole and held it more than half the track. Giving up over 100hp and the big one, give up a couple hundred pounds is the difference. It ran a 10.5 .. Now 10.5 is consider ok when not even a year or two ago , that was fast and the 9's were reserved for the holy trinity and the koenigseggs/bugatti's

Ya it's the ratios in the transmission that kill it. Idk why GM didn't fix that and be a little more aggressive with it. It drops in rpm so much. C6 zr1 and z06 gearing are money.

First 2 gears are good. 3rd could be a tiny bit more aggressive and 4th and 5th+ could be way more aggressive. It's like 5th gear in the c7s 8spd trans. It lowers in rpm so much...takes it so far out of the powerband.

It’s because the ERAY is a hybrid. The lithium ion battery in the middle and the electric motor in the front are the reasons for the extra weight. The C8 Stingray, Z51, ZO6 & ZR1 are all lighter.

The thing about the hybrid system on the E-Ray is that it cuts power way too much on the top end, it doesn't have an additional electric motor in the rear sandwich between the engine and transmission like the SF90, that's why it slows down above 110MPH.

I find it interesting it equals the Z06 time but is massively down on speed when it crosses the line. It's interesting how they often nearly equal each other over the 1/4 but achieve their results in completely different ways.

@@LeeXRV yep, the Z06 has a better top end due to having a more powerful engine, the E-Ray's front e-motors doesn't have a transmission, that's why at higher speeds it actually creates drag, the SF90 gets away with it because it has an additional 3rd electric motor between the engine and transmission, so technically the SF90's rear mounted YASA Axial Flux motor has 8 speed DCT, the front Magneti Marelli Radial Flux motor turns off at around 130-140MPH and then diverts the batteries power to the rear motor, fun fact about the SF90, if it has a more dense/bigger battery it would have over 1,200+HP.

The real "race" here was between the MacLarens, and the Vettes. Nice to see the data in the leaderboard. It shows the 750S is almost a 765, and the Eray is almost as quick on that course as the Z06 (although much "slower" on the course top speed).

In Canada we can get an ERay at MSRP, which is around $175K Cdn funds - loaded up. A loaded McLaren 750S is over $600K Cdn. These cars are peers, which is an incredible feat from GM.

@@jerometruitt2731 - Ah not too much to worry about there. If you have to spend 20k modding a car to try and keep up with another, you've clearly picked the wrong car. Also I will keep saying the price tag isn't all about straight line performance, it's about everything else as well. You'd still be in an Eray (and there's nothing wrong with that) and the 750s owner would still be in a McLaren. I don't say this as a put down for the ERay but modifying an ERay to try and keep up with a 750s wouldn't account for the price difference in anyway. If price to performance is your own metric then both cars are a massive waste of money. I can go far faster than both with a highly modified cheap car or a motorbike. The 750s was always going to destroy the ERay, they aren't in the same league as each other but so what eh? There are cars much faster than the 750s as well. I find whenever cars go up against McLaren and lose it's always excuse after excuse to explain it. When actually the explanation is the McLaren 7xx series cars are exquitely designed by some of the best motorsport engineers in the world and their cost reflects their engineering. You don't have things like carbon monocoque chassis, motorsport pedigree engines and active aero at a low cost. But all of these things equal a massive performance advantage over lower costing cars that use traditional engineering/design.

@@jerometruitt2731 yeah but McLaren states whp, Chevy states hp at the crank. For example, a _stock_ c7 ZR1 made less than a 2 car gap against a _stock_ 600lt. That's 600hp Vs 755hp, but they were still so close to each other despite the "massive" power gap. The answer is that 600 _whp_ is closer to 700 crank hp. So instead of 600, it was really 700hp Vs 755hp, when you take both values from the cranks. Hence the ZR1 only pulled slightly. The 750s is *_only_* stated at 750hp, but u can bet Ur bottom dollar that number is actually closer to whp than it is to the crank hp. 750whp at 15% drivetrain loss is 880+ hp crank. So unless the new ZR1 is making _at least_ 900hp at the crank, sorry, it's not beating no 750s. Not to mention the Z06 is already a pig compared to the 750s, if the ZR1 is using the same engine and chassis, AND adding twin turbos, all the turbo piping, AND the hybrid battery system and all it's relevant wiring, it's gonna be _very close_ to 4000 lbs. And that's not even taking into account other aspects like handling, tyres, Chevy Vs McLaren's launch control systems, etc etc.

What an amazing race! That E Ray is crazy fast and at moments the 750s made it look slow. That 750s is an absolute beast. Under ten seconds in the quarter mile is crazy for a production car. Was also surprised to see the Z06 get a better time than the E Ray on the leader board especially looking at the speed they crossed the line at. Thought this kind of race would have benefited the E Ray more than the Z06 but surprisingly not. Great job guys!

Eray has the advantage on the launch in gears 1 and 2 thanks to its torque. But once the car is moving, the Z06 will be faster in every aspect. Less weight, more power, more rpms. ERay will leave a Z06 behind a fair bit off the launch though for sure, just like it did to the 750S.

This should surprise no one however, the 750s has more power, less weight, active aero and has also of the advantages except off the line.

I agree, that would have been a much fairer race however I'm told the Artura was sold out immediately at launch and the Artura is hard to get hold of for press reviews. Still the Artura has taken on the Z06 on the strip and saw a fairly significant performance advantage, the 600LT and 570s have also out performed the Z06 in a drag race. Still I wonder how the ERay would match up against the Artura on a track.

This was a great competition. And they both look and drive like supercars. But it was always the McLaren's race to lose, and it performed amazingly, as expected. Living in the real world, I wouldn't ever seriously consider spending $350K-$400K+ on ANY car. So the E-Ray wins this competition for me. But for the obscenely rich, the McLaren 750S does not disappoint.

Obliterate is rather unlikely given the 765/750s can do the 1/4 in 9.3s. It's worth remembering the 750s is making ~750bhp at the wheels or somewhere over 850bhp at the crank. The ZR1 designer also said the ZR1 will do somewhere in 9's at around 150mph (for comparison the 750s does the 1/4 @~155mph). The 765LT/750s are more than 600lbs lighter than the Z06 (so expect the ZR1 will be heavier with turbo & ancillaries and maybe heavier drivetrain components?), additionally the ZR1 has a lot of aero where as they McLaren's run active aero allowing for it to be used only when required. I do wonder if the ZR1 will be able to go faster than 9.3s in the quarter (the 765LT achieves the same time as the Tesla Plaid/SF90), I wonder if the (far) larger diameter wheels will allow it to get away faster but it's also worth pointing out the 750s is only 0.1 of a second behind the AWD E-Ray in this video which is a mighty achievement.

@@dylangiles2624 the 750s actually has shown to launch harder than the 765LT and has achieved similar 1/4 results in several tests albeit it’s not been properly tested on the drag strip yet. Still the 750s shares the shorter gearing of the 765LT and has some modernised internals, which is likely why in this event we see an equal time. So to summarise even if it had the same engine/power out of the old 720s, it is lighter, has the much shorter gearing, better electronics and other improvements and will easily go much faster than the 720s 9.8s. So in summary the ZR1 is only obliterating the 750s if it’s doing 8s which is more than a bit of a stretch for a heavy car with a lot of aero. And to add to that the lead engineer said the ZR1 will do a 9 second time at around ~150mph. For reference the 750s is a 150mph 1/4 car. Who knows eh? Maybe the lead engineer is understating the ZR1s performance and it’s going to blow us all away at launch? It would make me laugh if the ZR1 was far faster when tested than they are saying!

It's always great to see such quick cars on the track. Very few ICE cars can launch like an E-Ray, and even fewer cars can pull like a McLaren. It's an interesting comparison, although the result isn't too surprising given the weight and power difference (The 750 is 750 lbs lighter, McLaren's quotes wheel horsepower for claimed numbers, and the E-Ray's motor powers down after the 1/8th mile, so ~300 hp difference by the finish line). One complaint I keep seeing about the E-Ray and C8 in general, however, is pedal feel and gearing. Those later gears are ridiculously tall, with 2 gear shifts between 120 mph and top speed, followed by more or less 3 overdrive gears. This means the C8 bogs down hard around the quarter mile. I get it's for gas mileage, but it really screws up performance of the car. It might help if they had a more linear pedal response, since the brake-by-wire system isn't exactly confidence inspiring. Not to paint the E-Ray as a bad car, however, as it will make cars in its price bracket look like they're standing still. It's easy to forget how fast it is when placed against a car that already makes supercars look slow. Chevy is bound to come out with a ZR1 soon that will probably match or beat the 750's power and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up adding another motor or two to that, even if it ends up weighing a couple tons

@@Smzxe Maybe at high speeds. The 750S has more aggressive gearing than the 720S so it will be faster down low, but slower up top so on a highway pull, a 720S might pull on it ya.

An eRay w twin turbos will be the best C8 IMO. I know the ZR1 with be the 5.5 with Twin turbos and the Zora add the eRay electric motor but i dont care for the 5.5 in the vette. For a vette 6.2 is the way. So an eray w twinsies will be the best

The 750s is faster by every measure other than the launch and built in such a way that it would take an incredible performance upgrade to even try to get in the game with the 750s. In addition, if your only measure of price is performance, you can go far faster than an ERAY in a 90's Civic with mods, but comparing the two would be equally ridiculous.

@@LeeXRV I never said they would become anything different or something they aren’t, and you may not be aware that it’s possible but yes you can upgrade a vehicle, especially one that’s already fast and make it even faster using the same little trick McLaren uses with forced induction example. The potential that 6.2 has in making potential power gains past the inflated value of the 750’s 4.0L on top of GMs reliability and maintenance costs advantages, (something McLaren owners are all toofamiliar with) makes it way better value for money and I think it’s closer to a mid engined performance car than the front wheel drive Honda you for some reason thinks deserves a mention despite its irrelevance unless you were acknowledging the fact you could daily the C8.. My whole point was that it wouldn’t be hard or cost much to have a car that looks better, performs as well in the corners, is more reliable and gives you more for your money. Still think the 750 is a cool car, the C8 makes it harder to justify that difference in price.

Eray will typically win in a straight up 1/4 mile drag race, but anything longer and the Z06 will win, and anything track related will go to the Z06. They already showed the times for their U-Drags and the Z06 won by a bit.

I understand exactly what you guys are feeling. I took my Mclaren 720S spider to the Ga mountains and blasted through the same roads that I have passed through in my other cars. Let me tell you, it is ridiculously fast. You have to be mentally recalibrated before you can full boost. F1 tech at your fingertips. I haven't taken my Pista through the mountains yet but it is next...!

The weight difference means a lot. The Lucid would beat it to the braking zone, but the McLaren can brake much deeper, turn MUCH harder, and probably accelerate quicker from a roll because of power to weight.

That 750S is a savage performer! It weighs like 750 pounds less than the E-Ray so the performance crushing outcome wasn't surprising at all. At the end of the day though, I'd take the E-Ray over any McLaren AND the Z06. What makes the E-Ray more desirable than the Z06 TO ME is the simple fact that it has the traditional cross-plane crank engine that produces the all too important, deep rumbly exhaust note that I need in my life and the ability to make it sound even better! Great match up!

The Vette is heavier with less power, maybe not combined power. But that's the reason for the difference. The electric power did make a difference at launch, I thought the Eray would win the 1/4 but it was a little slower. 10.50 is well into the 10 second territory but it's not 9.90's. Good show GM, awesome for the price point. Excellent victory for McLaren too.
