You've got to be in great shape if you're an Infantryman fighting in artic conditions.

I was a forward observer in an arctic warfare unit. Sitting in an observation post under snow can get cost, but establishing it, patrolling etc sucks.

I remember the boots. The ones we had in Germany had air inflation valves. You have to go wherever the threat is and train like you are going to fight.

In 1976 trained in the Artic northern Norway. Cold and lots of mountains. Mike Company 3rd platoon 3/8. Cold weather gear from 1954. Not real effective at keeping you warm. Oh yeah we walked everywhere.

Even with the latest technologies this is so tough already. Now imagine Germans vs Russians in Stalingrad during winter months, -40C and being out in trenches and open for weeks/months with having maybe 1/10th of what these guys in the video have

Kilvap Sakul It wasn't the Russian winter that got the Germans, and French stuck. It was actually the Russia's mud season.

That doesn't matter. I was just commenting on how people more than 70 years ago were able to endure the most extreme conditions with so much less and were still able to fight. That alone deserves shit load of respect, I don't care which side they fought for.

they gotta come up with a parka that can go over their plate carriers and mag pouches that are just plain white
@saintburnsy2468
@saintburnsy2468 3 жыл бұрын
Thing is, you gotta access your mag pouches, etc., so you'd just be wearing a FLC or some equivalent over the parka anyways. And solid white is not always the best- in forests being an example. Speaking from my own experience as a soldier in Alaska.

Is there any reason they don’t have white helmet covers and white corduroa for the plate carriers? I understand the purpose of Camo is to break up the human silhouette, but the darker color of the MultiCam plate carriers and helmet covers seems to make them stick out against the white background.

In forested areas you blend in better like that. If we were gonna be marching through forest instead of the open (which was most of the time), we'd just wear the white camo pants. From a distance, your waistline is about even with the line between the forest and the snow on the ground, so you camouflage really well. If you had full white camo marching through a forest, your white top would actually stick out

I always watch these vids very closely because I'm interested in our troops being outfitted well. Everything looks great until late in the vid, and the USMC are wearing cotton trousers and I think cotton field jackets. Most of this looks pretty much up-to-speed. The next level would be to match the SF guys on the snowmobiles with AK Eskimo Scouts and take it to the next level.

That's because they don't allow us to wear our cold weather gear unless it's really cold. Makes sense in the long run Edit: Plus those are overwhites
