I don’t think most people understand the album. These guys couldn’t have written this song 20 or 30 years ago.“When the ship that stole your heart away sets sail. When all you’ve left... is leaving”. Devastatingly beautiful lyrics.

Listening and thinking about my friend and co-worker, Claudio Di Donato, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer the other day. IBEW 530 Sarnia, Ontario, just lost a mountain of a man at 5'4" tops. Someone you could really aspire to be like. U2 has a knack for making these songs of sincere meaning and emotion, and this one hits the heart hard. Miss you and see you on the other side, Claudio.

I started with War at age 15 and have matured along with U2's music. I pray for many more years of U2 which is an odd thing to pray. I don't idolize them but my music taste has grown along with their career. Even Zooropa was great for that period of my life. If I had the responsibility to set their concert set list, I couldn't limit it to just 2 hours.

And if the terrors of the night Come creeping into your days And the world comes stealing children from your room Guard your innocence from hallucination And know that darkness always gathers around the light If there is a light We can't always see And there is a world We can't always be If there is a dark Now we shouldn't doubt And there is a light Don't let it go out When the wind screams and shouts And the sea is a dragon's tail And the ship that stole your heart away Sets sail When all you've left is leaving And all you got is grieving And all you know is needing If there is a light We can't always see And there is a world We can't always be If there is a dark Now we shouldn't doubt And there is a light Don't let it go out 'Cause this is a song A song for someone Someone like me I know the world is dumb But you don't have to be I've got a question for the child in you before it leaves Are you tough enough to be kind? Do you know your heart has its own mind? Darkness gathers around the light Hold on Hold on There is a light We can't always see If there is a world We can't always be If there is a dark That we shouldn't doubt And there is a light Don't let it go out And this is a song A song for someone This is a song A song for someone Someone like me Someone like me Someone like me

Songs of Innocence is such an underrated album by U2 and often hated but I really don't understand why.. maybe because of the move they did with Apple Music, could be anything actually, but in my opinion it has a couple of the most beautiful songs they ever did and I also think Danger Mouse did a brilliant work producing them! Oh btw such a musical and nice Bono glitch here at 3:25 :D He's only a human after all!
