Is Afternoon Tea at The Ritz London Worth The Hype?

The Ritz London is one of the most prestigious and luxurious hotels in the entire world. It is so famous, in fact, that the expression "ritzy" actually originates from The Ritz! There are few hotels more well known than The Ritz London, though staying at the hotel is not quite within this up-and-coming KZbinr's budget right now! But we did decide to try the famous Afternoon Tea at The Ritz in Palm Court.
The Ritz London Afternoon Tea in Ritz London's Palm Court is one of the most famous British afternoon tea experiences in all of London, if not the world. It is a posh experience and a jacket and tie is required. Mick Jagger was once even almost refused service for not being properly dressed! We have had afternoon tea at The Plaza Hotel in NYC before, but never the Ritz's, so we'll be seeing if one of the best afternoon teas in London is worth the hype!
Everyone knows the legacy of the Ritz and its "Ritzy" Afternoon Tea, but is it worth the hype or is it just living off its reputation at this point? As always, this is the question we seek to answer on UA Eats. Tune in and find out!

UA, split the scone in half lengthwise, then add a nice thick layer of clotted cream and jam one on top of the other. This is the way it’s meant to be experienced.

Split the scone in half, apply jam, then apply the clotted cream, if you're unsure look at how other diners are eating. For reference yes you apply lots of clotted cream that's the whole point.

@@cyclopsvision6370 no clotted cream is quite distinctly different to other creams. It is made by scalding full fat cream and taking from the top only the cream layer with the majority of the liquid left behind. Texture is somewhat like very dense creamy crème brûlée, sort of. Whipped cream is totally different.

Have had High Tea at the Ritz before, several times. The ambience is incredible. Can be a little overwhelming. The food, basically the same as in many other places. My favorite spot in New York is the Gotham lounge. They don’t let it get crowded, which suits me well. Small space, couches, comfortable, unhurried. Good food, very laid-back No need to get dressed up. Always told my daughters to meet me there at a certain time without fail. I would get there 15 minutes early to have an espresso and Sambuca at the bar. Then I would pretend I just got there to enjoy some nice tea, finger sandwiches and scones. So I’m not really a connoisseur.

Some excellent advice provided here by those who like myself have eaten many an Afternoon Tea. One further piece of advice. You put some clotted cream and jam onto your own dish and then you put them on the scone. Remember you sometimes are sharing the jam and clotted cream. I highly recommend anyone experiencing Afternoon Tea for the first time, needs to watch a video offered on KZbin on the proper way to enjoy such a culinary experience.

We went to London in Feb and I wanted to try the high tea in Ritz London but it was all booked out for the period we stayed in London. So we booked the high tea at the Claridge hotel at the heart of Mayfair and loved it. The dress code was not as strict as the Ritz but the food was exceptional (compared to what you showed in this video), you should try next time when you’re in London.😊 Btw we were the couple who sat next to you in the episode when you reviewed Delmonico’s NYC (hope you still remembered) 😅 Cheers 🥂
