I see a sync button or speed (1/2, 1x, 2x), but it's a little unclear if it syncs to DAW BPM?

It output the audio. you program the midi like any virtual instrument. not sure what you mean by automating phrasing. Sure I can show how to use it in DAW. I’ll do that.

SE DRUMS does NOT output MIDI, neither from the built-in GUI keyboard, nor in the form of MIDI patterns (which I feel is a pity, if you want to add some other drum sounds to the patterns or 'phrases' as UJAM call them). You trigger the phrases by inputting MIDI notes in your DAW and what you get out from SE DRUMS is audio, never MIDI.
