I ran into one of the refugees at my hairdresser and she told me that they get $2000 from the US government. She told me how lucky we Americans are because the government gives us free money. These people don't understand how America functions. We pay taxes and student loans so this type of person can get help.

You might not know this but there’s already services out there to help Americans there’s food banks, there’s non profit organizations, there homeless shelters that’s available to help the homeless, you’ve got the veterans affairs office to help struggling military vets I can go on and on all day like I said before there’s help already available to Americans who are struggling.

Many don't want to stay in a homeless shelter because they are known as places where people get R'ed constantly and assaulted, and staff couldnt be anymore unbothered because of the pay. Food banks too, atleast here in Canada, there are NONE that can provide within a 15 km radius of me, it can take ONE WEEK to get a box of food to arrive if I ever needed one, I know people that wait for up to 9 DAYS as well... to say "there are services" when those services are overstretched and underfunded is obscene, maybe open your eyes to WHY people don't want to use those services, or there legit aren't any available because too many people rely on them and nothing gets left for others...

There are services, HOW are they going to be used when places made for housing people are known for assaults and people getting r'ed constantly, and they dont even want to stay there because of it... foodbanks too, having to wait up to a WEEK because of such high demand for 1 weeks worth of food... just because there are services, doesn't mean the government took the time and money to actually make them work, or took the effort to take care of its people, or the infrustructure.

it takes me 2 years working legally and studying, paying my taxes. and after that uncle sam decided to give me my greencard then i repay him by serve in the Army and nowaday they dont even give me my citizenship yet. The war is predominantly in the East. It was restricted to the Donbass region before 2022. In 2022, there was an attempt to stop it but it only got worse. More regions got involved. Some people refused to leave and waited it out. Such as the guy from the channel Videos from Mariupol.

I am just guessing, but some of the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees vs South American refugees is likely due to the difference between an acute event (war) causing refugees vs a chronic systemic issue causing refugees (governmental failures). The acute event conceptually has an end in most people’s mind… “we are only taking on these refugees until the war ends” (whether that sentiment is actually correct or not in practice is TBD). As with governmental failures, “we are going to be taking on these refugees permanently or until there is a complete overhaul of the numerous situations in XYZ country”… psychologically, the cause and subsequent commitment is different. I am sure there are other underlying pieces to this as well (racism, etc), but the news definitely glosses over the nuanced differences of one situation vs another.
