I am with you. I am from China. I can tell if she is sincere or not. The motivation behind her may be economic reasons. Among these illegal Chinese immigrants, some of them are even financial criminals who misappropriate funds from China, trying to run away from the law in China. Because the US and China don't have an extradition treaty, they think coming to the US is a safe choice. Personally, I think the immigration system is broken and is so unfair to those international students who work hard, study hard, and pay taxes to stay in the US. As a result, a lot of them couldn't stay because they were not granted working visas. I got my PhD from the US, but unfortunately, I wasn't granted a working visa. I am now in China. I will not go back to the US because I don't think the immigration process is easy for those people who legally enter the US territory or get their H1B working visa. What an irony, come to think of it, granting work permits to those Chinese people who couldn't speak proper English while denying working visas to thousands of capable Chinese international students who can potentially contribute to the US society greatly. I am grateful that US has provided me exceptional education. But the reality is this country is declining and American dream is just a pipedream now.

No, the conditions of China are being censored. You see videos on tiktok and instagram, but douyin, weibo, xiaohongshu, these are Chinese apps I use to get my information from inside the mainland. There are crises that you wouldn’t even imagine-not like the videos saying “China is going to collapse in 24 days”. The problems are very real and starting to weigh. The cash crunch of Evergrande, one of the largest property developers, spread to the rest of the industry and the banking system. China’s bank failures went unreported because of the lack of information like Zhongzhi. Unrelated were the Henan rural banking crises. There’s a saying in China called 上岸，stay ashore meaning get a government job instead of opening your own business or working for a private one. The youth unemployment rate is so high because graduates can’t find a job since the housing market can’t keep up. Deflation for some reason is taking hold because of underlying inefficiencies in the economy. The yuan is weak meaning exports should be boosted but China can’t export their way out of this, the crisis for property developers is also getting worse since they borrowed in dollars. Now on to Christianity… 2% of China is Christian. That number stagnated but in numbers shrunk by about 3-4 million. The Chinese government also mainly only allows state-sanctioned Christian churches. Freedom of practice is an illusion and there’s precedents like the Falun Gong who were persecuted before. She has all the reason to be scared. It’s very real, and most of the immigrants in the U.S. today from Guangdong and Hong Kong and even Fujianese are Christian.

The asian population in Fort Lee NJ is now reaching 50%. When I moved back to New Jersey after being away for only 5 years, the center of town in Fort Lee had been taken over by Asians with their own stores, their own businesses, their own banks, etc. They weren’t very welcoming when I attempted to purchase an item from one of their stores either.
