It's only natural for the French to put the funnel in front of the bridge. That way they have it easier when retreating since there's less smoke at the aft section.

As someone whos been to the U.S.S. Alabama (Massachusetts sister ship located in Mobile), you did the best that you could with what you had in game. Don't sweat the design too much, you did a great job piloting her and commanding the fleet.

Those dual 5" secondary turrets just look wrong with those overly long barrels. The 5"/38cal gun tube should be about 1/2 to 2/3 the current length; the way they're rendered now they look like they're the 5"/45cal gun that didn't enter service until after the war.

We might see a difference in the future with the whole Mk 1/2/3 system? If these are Mk 5 guns, the 38 caliber guns might be the Mark 3 or 4.

The key would be make the 54cal guns not available until late '45 and the 38cal guns in '34 (both of which are dual purpose weapons), the single purpose 25cal AA gun in '24, and the single purpose low angle 51cal in '11. Of course, as currently implemented, including AA guns (or for that matter dual-purpose guns) makes no sense in the game since there are no provisions for aircraft.

With us battleship armour from the Nevada I believe onward the usn used the all or nothing armour scheme where there would be more armour over the vitals and next to nothing over unimportant bits like the bow and stern, basically they removed the extended belts and reallocated the weight elsewhere

The Massachusetts is now a floating museum in Fall River Mass. Have visited it numerous times since the 1960s when you could climb into the 16" turrets. She's fallen on hard times but still a treat to tour. There are also PT Boats, a Gato class sub and a destroyer .

yeah its hard because they're so damned expensive to kep up on and repair, the sad truth is all vessels like her are on borrowed time. Sooner or later they'll all become too unsafe to use and nobody will justify the cost of restoration. Truth is, no matter what all ships find their way to the depths, one way or another. Sad we'll never hear the big guns fire again before that.

Stealth, you *do* realize that, just because the hulls maximum load can't go low enough to make it's maximum rated weight equal to the historical weight of a ship, that it can't be used to design a lighter ship, right? A lot of the hulls that you should be using to be most accurate to a historical design are rated as being able to hold a lot more than the ships that used those hulls actually weighed.

Also, most nations lied/weren't sure about their ships' tonnage. Because cheating on the Washington naval treaty was common for pretty much every signatory, and no one can just weight a ship after it inevitably goes over the blueprint tonnage because they added an army-worth of 40 mm guns.

Dont know about everyone else, but i would like to see you completely ignore the displacement in historic builds. The game just doesnt allow to build many historic ships with right values as you cant change length/width of the hull. Just go for overall looks and do what can be done. You can also go for a hull with max displacement above of what you actually want and just dont use all of it.

The Massachusetts used an AON (all or nothing) armor scheme, meaning there was no belt extended armor. You could save a shit ton of weight by removing all belt extended armor, and have the benefit of also making it more accurate.

Try to recreate what the USS Montana would have been like. It would have been a successor to the Iowa class and would of had no treaty restrictions on armor and armament. Opposing forces should be Japanese and can be whatever you seem fit for this type of battleship
