I’ve never been a fan of baggy cargo shorts or flip flops but I love wearing jean shorts on colder summer days. And on really hot days, I feel most comfortable in swim trunks with a tank top and sandals.

1. Jean shorts are cool. 2. Cuffed up shorts are cool. 3. Unless your legs are super thick, a standard crew sock looks better than an exposed ankle. 4. On really hot days, swim trunks with a tank top and sandals are the most comfortable.

The long shorts trend drove me nuts-when "short" inseams were 9". At 5'6" with an inseam of 30", I need 5-7" shorts to lay just at or slightly above my knee. Anything longer covers my knees and I look like a stump. For several years, it was nearly impossible to find those inseam lengths at anything other than a specialty store. I'm glad that fashion trend has passed at least for a little while.

Thank you for making this video. I went out and bought flat front shorts today in navy and gray. I got the length right thanks to your advice. These shorts are a little shorter than what I'm used to and I grew up wearing cargo shorts that went past my knee. However, I like the way these look by showing off my knee and some thigh muscle and they aren't as hot as longer shorts.

I'm confused. She just said never cuff your shorts, but there are multiple examples shown with dudes with cuffed shorts. Also, I never cuff my shorts. Second, do we have a new preferred length now? A lot of "long" shorts in this video.

I think Ashley is making a distinction between "cuffing" your shorts (rolling them up yourself) and shorts that already come with a cuff. Hopefully she will clarify, however.

In addition, 5:22 and 5:23 both have shorts that can’t be pinched 1.5” on either side of thighs. All this to say I think there is room for flexibility within the “rules.” (Just not baggy cargos, dirty white sneaks, bathing suits away from water, mandals, etc. haha)

Umm multiple pictures she used as recommendations had guys with cuffs in their shorts and shorter shorts are great if you have nice legs and she again used them in her pictures. She also has said before that you can wear high top sneakers with shorts, the converse picture she used didn’t even look bad..

I'm 50 years old and you will never see me dressing like I just got off a golf course or coming out of a senior bingo game. I wear camo cargo shorts and a black t shirt. I'm a drummer, mountain biker and a bass fisherman and it just doesn't fit my attitude or lifestyle. And trust me, I'm not alone in these summer clothing choices at my age.

When she hates on flip-flops or board shorts, I know I'll never relate to this woman 🤣🤣🤣 she low key attacks whole lifestyles, and basically, cultures, with her "fashion" advice lololol. The claiming that grown men shouldn't wear board shorts, for example, is so disrespectful tbh because yea, cultures do basically live in them, and flip-flops/sandals, and tbh, I have noticed that many of them are way more grown and feel more like real men, vs many guys who are trying to look a certain way, act superficial, care what others think about their AESTHETIC..🤭 etc I pretty much guarantee she wouldn't be feeling the same if she were to be thrown into the deep end and spend a proper amount of time in Hawaii, Oz, NZ etc surrounded by actual men with actual testosterone who, yes, do happen to dress as you've mentioned because of lifestyle and culture etc. ;) Girl would never be the same again 🤭🙃 🤙👑

I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam and while most of my shorts are 9" long, I've recently picked up a few pairs with 5 1/2" inseams and I absolutely love them. If you are in shape there's nothing wrong with showing off your thighs 😉

I know health is key and all but most brands do not make shorts for the big-waisted men and sometimes you have to wear them below the waist meaning they will go down below the knee… I have no choice but to cuff them. One disagreement regarding jean shorts. I'm traveling through Europe right now and half of all Europeans I see wearing shorts are actually wearing jean shorts. I would definitely say they are in style in this part of the world right now so I wouldn't be surprised if they make a comeback in the US. And I do think they look good, especially the slimmer and more tapered ones.

Hi there, thanks for the video. I just make a point, I don’t totally agree with flat front shorts. I think it looks a little bit hard, and many pairs do bunch up in the front. It’s cheaper for companies to cut shorts that way. I think shorts with a turnup is great, especially with denim. Sometimes you have shorter legs, just doing a turnup by hand and a bit of ironing, will look better. Even though not in trend, those eighties pleated vintage trousers can look good with a up to trend modern shirt. The pleated trousers can create line, and make legs look longer. It also softens the look, not as severe as flat fronts. As to boat shoes Meh!, why oh why. I noticed that there is no shoe with a sock. Some of these endorsed shoes are so expensive, that a style with a sock has not been shown. Highly recommend styles with socks.

Frankly this channel needs to update its attitude about fashion in general. Recommending bland shoes, nice shorts but paired with the most bland options for the rest of the outfit, disregarding one might absolutely not want to wear shorts that look and feel tight fitting. All these “mens style” channels seem to get worse by the year, particularly given nothing really changes, the “tips” are personal bias but phrasing it as a “rule”

The guy in the white tank top with the backwards baseball cap? Ashley said that shorts should fit close to your leg. You should be able to pinch 1" to 1 ½" of extra fabric, max. It looks like you could pinch at least 5" of extra fabric on that guy's left leg (and presumably the right leg too).

While I will agree with Ashley that shorter above the knee shorts are the way to go, flat front shorts are for Senior citizens. Cargo Shorts have a far more youthful and masculine look that carries well from being a teen skater to a Dad at DisneyWorld carrying extra snacks for the kids. There's a utilitarian function and an aesthetic that flats Flats don't have. They make every man look older.
