I believe it’s important to sit with your partner and come to a compromise when it comes to ultimatums. This is especially if you’re speaking on trajectory of marriage. For relationships to work long term, something has to give on both sides as long as your peace of mind and mental health isn’t at stake. Be considerate of each other and lead with compassion. This was a great topic.

In my 17 year relationship I dealt with a woman who loved to spend money. Didn't really put effort into carrying her share of the financial weight. So I stepped up in order to give her what she desired but then she would complain that I didn't spend enough time with her. Now I only have so much time and energy in a day. Eventually for my well being I had to say make your choice. Step up your game and carry your weight more and you can help us have all those nice things and I can have more emotional energy for the relationship. Keep in mind I'm talking big purchases. Cars a house etc. I came to the point of I'm not burning the candle at both ends anymore. If you love me like you say you do then work with me to help us have that life. We were regular working people. Not super rich. I came to believe she wanted to live a life style above what our finances could support and put the weight of it on me. She could and would spend it faster than I could make. Not match my work ethic then bitch because I didn't spend enough time at home. Eventually I had to say we are separating our finances.

I agree, to me the ultimatum was displayed as a dealbreaker or like a non negotiable…what threw it to me was it wasn’t mentioned until a year later? I feel like deal breakers like that should be displayed earlier before feelings and all that sets in… that way you guys would be exchanging wether it would be a compromise or a decline …so it’s not like an obligation thing 💯

Interesting take! Putting pressure on in relationships is equivalent to forcing an outcome and the outcome isn’t in alignment with the “intention”.😔 I’ve been seeing lately though, People talking about being placeholders in relationships now. The placeholder being the partner right before the next that does get proposed to.

What about for those relationships that become stagnant after marriage. I know of someone who is in a same sex marriage because of their relationship with their partners child and simply want to financially support their partner because without them things would go south. Now they are having to deal with infidelity as well because of not letting go. Even with the size of the ring, things are going downhill.

4 years married, is more reasonable !! a house in 5 years with two incomes. IS over reasonable. Considering you’re more than likely paying two different rents. That’s Covering 2 different landlord’s mortgages!!!! Anything less you may want that person but you don’t see that person as your wife for whatever reason.

Can I ask the both of you a question.. Do you see yourself getting married and do you want to get married.. I ask that because everyone doesn't want to be married and if you ever feel pressured to do something from the woman your with than don't be in a relationship with a woman who wants a wife in a life goal.. I'll speak more about this topic but I'm interested in what the two of you think about being married and do you see yourself getting married..
