Brennan makes a good point about DnD. I used to have this DM who told me that the best trick he ever learned was that he would sometimes have players roll to do something that he plans on letting happen anyway, because it would be better as a satisfying moment to the player, and if you were to roll something like a NAT 1, instead you would be given something like a consequence later on as opposed to simply failing spectacularly. He said this approach makes every awesome or tragic moment that much more impactful and fulfilling to the players over taking a hard stance on rolling for everything, and later makes the effect of the NAT 1 that much more punishing, and can set up interesting scenes later down the line (let's say you wanna... catch a falling princess, then roll a 1, you still save the princess but you break your arm/leg in the process. E.g. Tasked failed successfully, or you're captured by the antagonist, or poisoned, etc etc) I dub it the "Butterfly Rule", because often it feels kind of like an in-game butterfly effect.

Now al I can think of is Sam carrying Frodo all the up the mountain only to then fall over screaming because he tore a back muscle
@heiho9029 Жыл бұрын
Turning nat 1s into later consequences is such an awesome way to let players off for unlucky rolls, while also turning them into a much more interesting roll than "you fail", without being needlessly punishing. It'll also feed into a sense of dread after they roll a few nat 1s, and they start worrying about what's gonna happen, and then you pull out Gethekriax the Unbound and everything goes to shit.

@@andrewcook2625 it's easy to pretend you have "facts and logic" and back an unprepared guest into a corner. Hell, that's Ben Shapiro's entire modus operandi. Why do you think he keeps debating unprepared college kids instead of actual experts? It's also really easy to fudge statistical data, like how a common tactic on alt right "news" sites to claim that climate change isn't real is by presenting a short span of glacial ice recovering as evidence, when a longer span of data for _multiple_ ice sheets would show a steady decline over the decades. And finally, don't pretend Rogan hasn't been harmful to the United States' vaccination drive. And no, just because he got a prescription for Ivermectin as "a cocktail of drugs" doesn't make things better, or change the fact that even human-grade Ivermectin is _still_ not cleared by any medical agency, even in countries that are allegedly doing mass Ivermectin drives disguised as "de-worming" campaigns. The fact is: - Ivermectin is _not_ cleared for use against COVID-19 by the FDA - current and _multiple_ double-blind clinical trials have not gone well in favor of ivermectin as a COVID drug (see www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/tables/ivermectin-data/) - Merck, the company that _sells_ Ivermectin, has repeatedly said "don't fucking use this for COVID" and have started working on a different antiviral drug, currently in testing

@@romxxii so first on Rogans podcast they pull up sites and sources for each persons claims not just in favor of Joe, so anyone worth their salt would do some very basic research on the topics Joe told them beforehand they were going to talk about as well as research on the topic they want to talk about as the guest has more control over the conversation... Adam didn't do this and it cost him, that simple Also Joe brings on actual experts all the time Fudging data is common tactic for all "news" sites so don't pretend it's only one group at fault for that... and trying to paint it only as an issue on the "alt" right makes it sound like you are trying to paint Joe as an "alt" right figure... again painting you in a very bias light To the Joe hurt vax drive in the US, if one dude running a podcast ruins your nations vax drive then that shows how terribly you are marketing your vacations... maybe next time dont make your drive a large shame tactic campaign to force people to get vacation See Joe didn't actually hurt the drive, the political games and tactics used by the government and medai did, you just want a scapegoat over accepting that maybe the insults and bias weren't the right way to handle the masses to the covid-19 treatment, that has nothing to do with the conversation, Joe never said Ivermectin was a cure for covid so you trying to make it out like he did is just childish, maybe actually watch his podcast where he talks with cnn's medical expert who openly admitted Joe was being miss treated by the medai Lastly merck said stop using it because people where going out to stores and buying animal grade drugs and self prescribing, merck was covering their ass for potential lawsuits... but this again means nothing as Joe was prescribed by a licensed physician to take the drug, so clearly you are arguing you know better than the doctor (much like how the anti-vax people think they know better than the doctor)

I thought The Fifth Element ripped off 'The Incal' after all Moebius the artist for that series attempted to sue Luc Besson on the grounds of extreme similarity. And wasn't it was Star Wars that was supposedly 'very similar' to Valerian?
@celia1888 Жыл бұрын
@@Quotheraving Moebius didn't sue, his editor did, Moebius actually worked on 5th Element XD (which is why the sueing didn't stick). Both were, Millenium Falcon is like 99% like the ship from Valerian). But aside from that it's more lie...Inspiration. Meanwhile Besson wanted to do an actual adaptation and ended up basically making an AU Fanfic because of his lack of rights. Which is ironic for a lot of fans because a lot of us consider the 5th element to be a better adaptation than the actual movie Valerian (in the tone and kind of story told).
@Quotheraving Жыл бұрын
@@celia1888 Thanks for the clarification.. Yeah I knew there had been legal action of some kind and had heard it was related to Moebius. As it turns out Jodorowsky blamed Moebius for the lawsuit failing because he worked for Besson. However, as to both films being inspired by Valerian I'm calling bull on that. The similarities between Star Wars & Valerian are superficial at best. For example you cite the Falcon as being a 99% lift from Valerian whereas in reality the design we see on screen was made by the production staff with the only input from Lucas being allegedly "Make it more like a burger". There's obviously been some inspiration but it came via the design team working to a very tight deadline (2 and a half months) and only involves 2 design elements, the saucer shape (see previous explanation for this) and the side fins, so one design element out of literally dozens! I sense a great disturbance in the straws, as if they are being grasped at by Valerian fans! Let's face it If there is any obviously heavy 'inspiration' going on in Star Wars it's from Kurosawa's 'Hidden Fortress', Dune, Lensmen, Campbell & Flash Gordon. The 5th element on the other hand bears marked similarities to the Incal (and my point still stands) sufficient for a lawsuit to be filed.

17:44 Um, actually, Scorpion was never a member of the "Ice Ninja" clan, aka Sub-Zero's clan the Lin Kuei. Scorpion was a member of the Shirai Ryu clan. The two clans were rivals, which ultimately culminated in the elder Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) killed Scorpion. The reason why Scorpion did not transform into a scorpion for his Animality is because he was not playable in the original Mortal Kombat 3 game. Sheeva was in the base game with the scorpion animality, so when Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 released with an expanded roster (including Scorpion and Reptile, who were not in the original game) they were given some awkward animal transformations.

Um, actually, the Shirai Ryu were originally part of the Lin Kuei and splintered off from them after the original Takeda (not Takeda Takahashi) decided to form his own clan. We also don't know _when_ the split happened, so it's entirely possible that Scorpion was a member of the Lin Kuei before the Shirai Ryu. Furthermore, the Lin Kuei have nothing to do with Bi-Han's, Kuai Liang's, or Frost's powers; they inherited those powers by being part Cryomancer, so it's entirely possible that Hanzo could have had similar powers before he died, even though he wasn't Lin Kuei. He didn't, but his clan has nothing to do with that.

Um actually, Vader actually can use force lightning! He uses a red storm version of it in Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi where he bypasses the need to direct the lightning through his body by creating a storm above his victim. He also used a solid white version in the Legends book "the Jedi Path" by using a Kyber Crystal to protect his animatronic body (or perhaps become so attuned with the dark side that he used force lightning anyway even knowing it might kill him). In fact, Vader is so skilled in Force lightning, he was able to teach it to others, including starkiller, and can easily absorb or redirect any force lightning other sith may try to use on him.

Um, actually, the image depicts him at the end stages of his madness, at this point he has fully taken the name Deathwing, no longer responding to or viewing himself as Neltharion. The change of name became solidified when he took the power of the Dragon Soul, transforming him into Deathwing, which in the same event was renamed to the Demon Soul. So ultimately either name is correct, for while his true name is Neltharion, he later fully takes the name Deathwing and rejects the name Neltharion. Either name is correct when talking about the entity unless specifying a specific period in time before or after his transformation.
