@hmt5013 жыл бұрын
I’ll also add “um actually, dogs are not a non-verbal species. While they tend to communicate through non-verbal body language, they commonly use their voice to communicate especially in the Spitz family like huskies which are exceptionally good at verbalizing.”
@canuckkat3 жыл бұрын
Um, actually, it's completely situational. If you're playing fetch or want them to come to you or follow you, you should sound excited and enthusiastic to make the activity sound way more fun than whatever other thing they were thinking of. If you need them to respond for basic obedience for stuff like "leave it" or "drop it", you should use an authoritative voice. Especially if it's a safety thing like dropping that piece of chocolate they snatched off the ground while on a walk when you shifted your attention away for one nanosecond. Of course, it's not a golden rule for every dog and there are definitely exceptions.
@DefectivePieceofChalk3 жыл бұрын
@@canuckkat This may (emphasis on may) work on mostly untrained dogs. There's also the chance you will effectively slow their training. Dogs are pack animals that think exclusively in ranks, which is pretty typical for most canine species. You're either above or below them. You want to voice yourself as their leader, not their buddy, when training them. Once the ranks are established, you can be a buddy to them as much as you want. This is a major reason why so many dogs don't listen. They do whatever they want because they have never been taught their owner is the "alpha" of their pack. This also leads to their owners feeling the constant need to shout at their dogs - another pro-tip. There's no need to ever shout at your dog. Their hearing is much better than yours and they will be able to pick out the voice of their owner. Dogs are entirely different to cats, who are naturally solitary creatures and don't have the tendency to think in ranks. With dogs, you have to establish your authority. With cats, you need to earn their respect.
@canuckkat3 жыл бұрын
@@DefectivePieceofChalk Actually, the "alpha" theory has be debunked as humans trying to manipulate wolves in captivity to aggressively establish order, and is in no way actually how hierarchy is established naturally. So while it's true that dogs need a firm and consistent leader in order to be trained effectively, you don't have to be militant in your behaviour. Just like children, they'll understand that you're the leader if you're using a playful voice because you're the one initiating/allowing play, and you're the one determining the rules of play/engagement. Anyways, like I already said, no dog will respond exactly the same as another, which is why you need to figure out what works for an individual dog instead of broadly applying training methodology and theory. Just like raising children.
@DefectivePieceofChalk3 жыл бұрын
@@canuckkat I'm sure you think they talk out their disagreements and the law of the strongest doesn't apply at all. Dogs nor wolves fight over leadership, that's all CGI propaganda, they "communicate in a meaningful way", explaining their feelings to each other in intimate talking sessions and safe spaces. I won't even try and argue against you after dismissing nature itself. You've been watching too many cartoons. Owning a dog does not make you an expert on dog behaviour or their hierarchies.

The Kessel Run shortcut idea is one of the things that shines a light on how calcified and past its prime the Galactic Republic (and the Empire that's a corrupted outgrowth of it) really are. The routes that are used to travel through hyperspace were mapped out often tens of thousands of years ago, and almost no one thinks to try to figure out if there's a better way to navigate those routes except for people on the fringes, like smugglers. They use these routes to cover vast distances across their galaxy, but have little to no idea what exists any particularly large distance away from those routes, like sailors not having good maps any distance inland from the coasts.
@devilsadvocate19754 ай бұрын
Um, actually, that doesn't make sense. Hyperspace routes are like freeways. There is no reason to go offroading and potentially damage your vehicle on large rocks (planets) or drive into a canyon (sun or black hole) and never be heard from again when you have a perfectly good road to drive on. The Kessel Run shortcut idea is basically the Duke boys (smugglers) from Dukes of Hazzard taking a dirt road and jumping a river to get some moonshine to their contact while outrunning the Sheriff (the Empire). Only desperate people or criminals take insane risks like that.

23:01 lmfao i dont blame erika for not remembering, but college humor actually already has this exact sketch. I think Trapp was even in it.

Huh, I thought I was up to date on all episodes, but there are corrections in there that do not ring any bells, guess it's time to go into the archives...

Impossible. Perhaps the archives are incomplete.

Um actually according to the conversation between Mouse and Leanansidhe: Mouse kept Harry, not the other way around. which is also cannon as Mouse can weave fate to better the odds of people around him so things go according to what they want

If anyone cares: the original comics membership of the Avengers was Ant-Man, the Wasp, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk. The Wasp was the one that proposed the name, after Ant-Man suggests the idea that they should continue to meet to handle threats no one of them could deal with alone. So, ironically, the two characters who are responsible for proposing that the Avengers should exist as a team and for coining the name of the group are the two members that aren't in the MCU team at all.

This was a great episode. So much fun. I love Erika and Becca, and Eme was a nice newbie to see, even if he sadly didn't get any points by the end.
