This might be a kind of dumb question, but I have an 02 ws6 that is cammed with slp headers and exhaust, and it came stock with the ls6 intake. It was dynoed at 400.95whp, and 385.5wtq. I am thinking of getting it retuned, and putting in new spark plugs. The guy before me installed the cam, and all he remembered is that it was a texas speed 228r cam with a lobe separation angle of 110. Is there any to tell if it's a stage 1, 2, 3, or 4 cam?
@atarheelchamp1993 жыл бұрын
those 18s?
@bradleylovej2 жыл бұрын
@@peterfenter8800 Here's a question I'm genuinely interested in, not trying to be a jerk. Why are people so interested in the 'stage' of their cam? Does it tell you something important about the characteristics of the cam? I always thought that it was just a container to put a lot of different cams in that had roughly similar characteristics but not the exact same specs. Like, a couldn't a 'stage x' cam have a wide variety of lsas, lift, duration, etc.? Wouldn't it be better to know the actual specs of your cam? It seems like the guy telling you it was a 228r with an lsa of 110 is a hell of a lot more useful than some broad category like a stage 2 cam. At least now you know the duration and lsa. Mostly what you're missing is the lift, and you've pretty much got your cam figured out.

HI, great video. Helps me with my decision on whether to do this or not. One problem that I doubt you are aware of. The sound on the video cuts off for me from 3:41 until 14:13, then it comes back fine like it started. So, basically missed what you said from the time you took the car out on the before test drive until you dropped it down to take it on the after. Any way you could reload the original video with all the sound intact?

Thanks for posting, I have a 2001 Pontiac Trans am ws6 I bought when I was 19, I’m 38 now. Basically stock, a few bolt on parts and a new ls1 years ago and some bloody Knuckles, a few choice words I still love the car! You my friend just earned a new sub here!!

It is an awesome car isn't it, i have a 99 trans am ws6 convertible still needs a little work but so much fun to drive. Right now I have the LS1 sitting in my garage it ate a few bearings and some of the crank but I did build a cammed LM7 with ported 862 heads and flat top pistons to take its place ill probably build the ls1 one day to throw back in the car or just go with an LQ9.

After the drop with the strano spring kit I got the adj Panhard, adj LCAs, and LCA relo to keep things centered. SFCs and torque arm with relo is next up on suspension. Though Headers/Y pipe is really winter project goal. I have been impressed so far with the UMI products as well.

Perfect time for this vid. Im just about to do the same thing on mine. Just waiting for the Moser arm to come in. Do you have urethane engine mounts by any chance? And what do you think that clunking is under the centre console the you have??
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
I have the factory rubber engine mounds as far as I know. The "clunking", is just a little noise I hear now that the torque arm is mounted to the chassis, not the transmission tailshaft. It's not bad, and totally tolerable.

As far as I'm aware, the engine mount bushings are factory rubber ones. The bushing that holds the snout of the torque arm is polyurethane. Theres more noise with the tunnel relocation as well.

I've got a 2002 ws6, I've got the UMI 3 point subframe connectors, and torque arm, definitely tightens everything up a lot. My weak link is probably the suspension right now, super comfortable, but kind of boaty. I've heard a lot of guys use bilstein shocks, and lower them.. I'd also like to get black wheels. I love the look of the miro 101's I just wish there was a way to get them wider like 10 or 11 inch diameter

My car is lowered with bilstein shocks. Overall I like how it rides on the setup! You'll notice a big difference with tubular rear stuff, especially if your bushings are shot too.

@RootsandTendrils4 жыл бұрын
Excellent work, really enjoyed that. A question which comes to mind is why the GM engineers originally thought it the right idea to attach the torque arm to the transmission, they must have thought there was some positive purpose and advantage to doing so; any thoughts? I have a 2000 W68 Firebird with G80 and GU6 with which I have fallen in Love, and I do find it quite remarkable that you find driving your Trans Am more satisfying than piloting an LS7 Corvette. My goal is to acquire a Collector Edition Trans Am, or perhaps a White/Taupe '02 WS6. Keep at it.
@Greenlightfilming4 жыл бұрын
I think what it is that's appealing about driving the WS6 vs the Z06 is that you've got to want it with the Bird lol. You get a lot more feedback too. It feels like a more raw car. No idea why they attached it to the transmission. They must have thought they would work together in some way.

Are the roto joints very loud in terms of road noise?
@Greenlightfilming2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are noticeable louder than the factory parts would be. They are very good at transducing gear noise as well. The factory rubber bushings do a lot to dampen that stuff.

I put the full UMI suspension on my WS-6, It's made my car ride so stiff and was a real pain to drive. removed the Viking coilovers and put the regular old stock shocks/struts back on the car, now it rides like a new car on rails. I got rid of the weak LS-1 and swapped a 2019 LT-4 engine. These cars are a total POS until you invest around $30,000 to bring it to the modern world.
