We are moving to East TN in a few months on 60 acres. Your videos have convinced my husband and I, that we will be great homesteaders! Thank you for all the information you put out in your videos!

We use the flame weeder to scorch the pig carcass, it saves dipping it in hot water before scraping off the hair. Scorch and scrub with a soft wire brush, rinse off with fresh water afterwards. It's so much quicker and easier.

I have always lived watching all of you, but since we are distancing I feel even closer. You have the best kids, it's how we were raised.

I had a pig choke on a bone one time. I did a modified Heimlich of chest compressions and then picking the pig up by its back feet. Very intense! But we got the airway cleared.

@Justin Rhodes, the compound for gas lines/tools has to cure for about 24 hours. Hope that helps. The gas tape looks just like the tape for water lines, only it is yellow instead of white.

Thank you so much for the info! Maybe we'll try it one more time before the tape arrives. Big Daddy is bringing some in a bit.

Also the "gas tape" is PTFE tape, wrap it around the threads then screw it back in.

Rebecca is correct about the gas tape. It is yellow in color and the hydrocarbons (propane/butane) won't eat away at it.

Would you talk about ticks and how you deal with them on your property and with your live stock? Thanks!
@theJustinRhodesShow4 жыл бұрын
Tried Guineas but they only end up wanting to be with the chickens (not free ranging). So we just check ourselves everyday. We definitely don't kill any opossums. They'll eat thousands of ticks a year.

Here's what you need to seal that connection where the leak is Harvey 017065 Gas Line PTFE Thread Seal Tape or Mill-Rose 70885 Blue Monster PTFE Pipe Thread Sealant Tape, 1/2-Inch x 1429-Inches, Blue Tractor Supply should carry it, or check your local hardware store.

Loving the videos. We planted a heap of different seedlings in our garden on the weekend. As we are in a typical suburban area of Perth Australia, we are not allowed to have livestock so we are growing as much of our own produce as we can here at Apple Tree Farm.

Love your videos. We can't wait to find a small plot of land to put our tiny house on and start our homestead. I have a question for you and your viewers. We want to minimize the use of space while maximizing yield, taking in costs. So for our meat(geared for our family) we are thinking of rabbits and chickens. From your experience would these be the better options?😍👍🐓🐔🐇

Yes use gas tape. The soil block maker is a game changer. The Beautiful one should start a seed starting business.

I might be wrong but with the weed flamer I think you said you sow the seeds and then use the flamer. I would do it the other way around, flame before seeding as it's meant to kill off weed seeds, but I could be wrong :)

Gonna be building that greenhouse soon. I want to louver the side wall. Easy Option. Louver up - not sure if sufficient to harden but wouldn't have to move plants in and out. Extended option is to add sliders on the top of the tables to slide outside after sidewall goes up. Do you think the plants would harden off without the slide-out?

Now I'm scared. I just bought one of those Red Dragon flame weeders and all the accessories needed to make it work. Since I'm a single female I'm like Rebecca and worried that I'll mess it up and blow myself up. Now that I see you guys are having such problems with leaking it makes me even more afraid. Guess I'll have to find some guy who knows what they're doing to come put it together for me and show me how to operate it. God Bless! Carmen

Thank you for sharing your new tools. Love your calmness event for the bacon (pig) it sure is concerning when an animal is choking not that I could do this for a horse but you left behind and legs and paddle the rear end while somebody is standing in front straddling over the pig push the head down. if it got worse that is a two-person job. You're right I think she may have aspirated some of the milk. You can do so much with that flamethrower even preserving wood and sharing the time to getting to know that equipment very important Love the seed block and roll out grid planter so excited to see you both use that.

Hi from the uk, love the new tools and the new shelving. Would love to see how you make compost tea and use it, is it aerated? I started brewing CT 17-18 yrs ago 200lt each time used on hardy nursery stock, especially good in the propagation dept. I know of people using it on paddocks for horses, have you thought of using it to help establish new pasture or keep old pasture healthy?
