Because the bottom of the battery grip is wide, it is the same with the other battery grips that use this size of battery. I have the BG-E14 and likewise when you shoot vertically it feels much bigger.

6:37 I found myself in a similar situation with my 1D Mark IV. With a RRS L bracket, the baseplate gives me more to hold on and makes the setup feel more balanced. As someone with relatively large hands, it's definitely something I cannot overlook. Thanks again for another great video, glad you found the grip comfortable for your use.

@@JohnGress if there wold be the 3th batterie on the place of plastic stock which goes inside of the camera at the place of the main batterie that would be great ! but only two batteries on this balky thing it's not so efficient ! i guess but maybe can help if the camera will get hot because of the video recording as someone here mentionned , or if its shut on the floor then it might absorbe the shock better ))) personnally i would by one or two more batteries and keep it on my pocket ))

I do! Side to side both are 9cm from the trigger side of the cameras. Going towards the battery side the R is 60mm in, including the width of the battery magazine, and the 5D is 65mm. Your contours question is really inst something I can quantify.

John, now that you have use your r5 for awhile when looking at newer videos you posted. Could you please address a video to expo simulation as being enabled and what happens when you attache a flash/trigger. I use Godox strobes and flashes. Bottom line nothing works together because of blackout. Help show me a way to use even if it requires extra steps to do, ie turn off flash - expose for ambient, turn flash on and pray... Do you get what I am asking. I will help that video get plenty of views from tons of friends.
@JohnGress
@JohnGress 4 жыл бұрын
I think the two general steps you want to take when using flash is to take the shutter mode off of electronic and then disable exposure simulation. Both should be in the red, shoot, menu. Did that solve your problem?

Just got my R5 today and after an hour of shooting my hand is cramping. Didn't have this problem with a larger Nikon DSLR. I have larger hands too and find the body grip small in every dimension. I'm not sure if adding the battery grip would help or not, thoughts / suggestions?

@@JohnGress I think it's a bit of both, but I think the dominant issue is that my pinky is completely off the grip and about 1/3 of my palm is sort of balling up under the grip as a result. I'm probably going to give the battery grip a try, but I expect it to add new problems - larger backpack, more awkward hanging from a strap clip, etc. I'm getting into day backpacking and wildlife shooting.

I'm looking to get one(actually two...I have two R6's) but I did see a concern. I use dual straps to 'wear' my cameras on my body. They connect via the 1/4" tripod socket. Going vertical may be an issue in that 'the strap' may get in my way. Question is...are you still using them a year out from when you you shot that review? Thanks...I subbed. FYI...with my older camera (5D Mark IV)I rarely turn my camera vertically because I could just crop the horizontal but the R6's sensor is smaller...I'm going to need to shoot vertically. Damn it!!!

Next time you do an unboxing I think you need to hang on to all of those bags and those plastic covers that comes with all Canon accessories they put them in there for a reason and don't be afraid of reading the instructions . That vertical grip does look like it is a well-designed grip especially for its purpose of shooting vertically as far as using a big lens , what you have there is tiny compared to what me as a bird photographer or any other wildlife photographer use's , I take it you have never used an 600 F4.0 or an 800 f 5.6 now those are big lenses these are what Wildlife Photographers like my self use to do our work .

Hi, Does this grip work on the canon r50?
@KaiTiura
@KaiTiura 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, just like my ESO R grip, there is a place for the door. Good thinking on Canon's part to keep the Cripple Hammer away from this item.😆 (Editing would have made the video shorter, reading the instructions with the same focus on editing would have been disastrous...😂) This *was* interesting, but I look forward to the test with two batteries (the grip doesn't work with just one, does it? And, since you bought the grip, but not a second battery, I feel much better about having bought the camera without thinking to get a CFExpress card reader at the same time, when they were everywhere!) The grip seems to also be on backorder everywhere... I could swear I saw that the grip had a special connection advancement... can't remember what, and not seeing it anywhere at the moment. Better read that manual after all.
@JohnGress
@JohnGress 4 жыл бұрын
It works fine with one battery. I didn’t buy a second one of the new batteries because I figured for now I would use my old batteries. During my test shoot I used both the old and new batteries and didn’t notice any differences. I also forgot to buy a cfexpress reader so I have been using the camera and usb cable to get images in the computer.

@@JohnGress I've used a newer battery grip before it's safe to use I think the biggest differences I've noticed was the materials and the glue is much cheaper. but functionally I had no issues with my copy. I've used newer, canon and vello battery grips. Canons feel the most substantial and last the best in austere weather and durability, newer is cheap materials but is ok if you are not using your camera in extreme conditions for the money the best was vello same or slightly less durability but for cheaper price. All of them functioned identical and never had a error from any of them.

It’s great but $350 is WAY too much for it. I’ll be waiting for a discount. Great video tho!

Thanks! I think it’s a fairly normal price for their grips for this class of camera.

How does the WiFi on the grip perform?

This grip does not feature WiFi. I think you mean the WFT-R10A Wireless File Transmitter amzn.to/3gvOHf1
