“This guy, Flash Thompson, he probably deserved what happened. But just because you can beat him up, doesn’t give you the right to. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility.” Such an iconic phrase. The crazy thing to me is that Uncle Ben said this as an ordinary man to an ordinary boy. This isn’t a famous millionaire (Iron Man) telling his sidekick (which is basically what Tom Holland’s version is) something about saving the world. This is just a normal man teaching his beloved nephew how to treat people rightly on a day-to-day basis. This lesson is for all of us, not just young superheroes. That’s why this Spider-Man is so much better than the MCU’s. It’s about ordinary people, like the original Amazing Spider-Man comics.

For any teenagers watching this, "These are the years when a man changes into the man he's gonna be the rest of his life.” is extremely true. I spent highschool shirking responsibilities and letting friendships fade because I wanted to be in my room playing video games. This was the person I continued to be in my 20s, and as I turn 30 soon, I’m only just now trying to change and grow. Consider who you are now, and who you want to be. Even if it’s just a vague impression, follow that path. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what you want to do, pick a major and move forward. As if this is actually what a conversation would be between father and son, Sam treated the characters not like cartoons but actual people with no jokes, no quips, no exchange bantering, just a genuine pep talk. Yeah Peter was kind of a jerk in this scene, but teenagers act like this sometimes and he says that he wants to figure it out on his own. Plus later on he does show regret for scolding Uncle Ben for trying to be his father with, "I can't help thinking about the last thing I said to him. He tried to tell me something important and I threw it in his face", and in the end he accepts Uncle Ben as the father figure in his life by saying to Norman, "I have a father. His name was Ben Parker". We see how Uncle Ben's death affects Peter, which was never addressed in the ASM movies. That in my eyes is inexcusable and drives me nuts every time I think about it.

+Yousuf Khan Wow! You should put these words as a review on IMDB. It's too long but I read it all. Thanks for sharing your genuine feeling. Stay strong buddy.
@YousufKhanPR9 жыл бұрын
Let me also amplify what Joe Tufano said about how much Uncle Ben's death affects Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I've spent a lot of time writing this paragraph so hear me out! Let me explain the difference between Uncle Ben's death and the emotional impact there was on Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man: There was one scene in the car in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) where Uncle Ben lectures to him about ''Great Power and Great Responsibility'', but then Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man gets annoyed. Yes Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man was a jerk in that scene, but teenagers act like this sometimes and he says that he wants to figure it out on his own. And later on he does show guilt for scolding Uncle Ben for trying to be his father, he says "I can't help thinking about the last thing I said to him. He tried to tell me something important and I threw it in his face", and in the end he accepts Uncle Ben as the father figure in his life by saying to Norman Osborn, "I have a father. His name was Ben Parker". We see how Uncle Ben's death affects Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I mentioned earlier that Uncle Ben had nothing to do with the characterisation of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and I'm certain that I don't need to repeat it, but I also want to point out that the most important person in Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man's life is Richard Parker, not Uncle Ben. Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man took 2 years to get over his Uncle Ben's death, there's a scene in Sam Raimi's ''Spider-Man 2'' where he talked to his Uncle Ben in a dream about his life that is falling apart, it symbolizes him freeing himself for the guilt he feels for Uncle Ben's death. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man got over his Uncle Ben's death quite easily, after his Uncle Ben's death all he did was listen to his Uncle Ben's voice over the phone and that was it, and that was at the end of ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' movie, it was long after his Uncle Ben died, and in Marc Webb's ''The Amazing Spider-Man 2'', Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man was too busy being concerned about his father Richard Parker and why he left him, Uncle Ben wasn't present at all, there wasn't a flashback, we didn't get to hear his voice, Aunt May briefly mentioned Uncle Ben when she decided it's time to put away all his belongings and forget about him, and that completely removed Uncle Ben's presence from the life of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man, in Sam Raimi's ''Spider-Man 2'' Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man kept his Uncle Ben Symbolically alive, it was like as if Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man wanted to keep his Uncle Ben alive. In Marc Webb's ''The Amazing Spider-Man 2'' Richard Parker said to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man ''With Great Power comes Great Responsibility'', while in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy Uncle Ben said ''With Great Power comes Great Responsibility''. In the Comics neither Uncle Ben or Richard Parker said those words, but Uncle Ben once preach to Peter Parker/Spider-Man about responsibility and when he died, Peter Parker/Spider-Man put together everything his Uncle Ben said and came up with the words ''With Great Power comes Great Responsibility''. Sam Raimi's ''Spider-Man'' simplified that by making Uncle Ben say those words, which was brilliant and it showed how much Uncle Ben truly mattered to Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man's life, but in Marc Webb's ''The Amazing Spider-Man 2'', Richard Parker becomes the most important person in Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man's life. This isn't even a contest, Tobey Maguire wins this round by a long shot, Uncle Ben's death had a lot more emotional impact on Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man and his life and his Uncle Ben was the most important person in his life. Also, Uncle Ben in Marc Webb's ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' died over $0.02, that's TWO FUCKING cents, in Sam Raimi's ''Spider-Man'', Uncle Ben died over $2900. That's the difference.
@JoeTufanoTheMovieGuy9 жыл бұрын
Yousuf Khan Not to mention that Peter in the ASM series seemed more concerned about the broken promise to Gwen's Dad than Uncle Ben. And when Aunt May says to Peter that Uncle Ben would've been proud of Peter graduating, he went on to say, "And he'd probably tell me to go get a job." Comes off as a bit negative, and not to mention that Peter wasn't really responsible for his death, Uncle Ben dove for the gun when the thief had no intention of killing anybody and the resulting struggle caused the gun to go off which was caused by Uncle Ben diving for the gun. It was Ben's own fault.
@YousufKhanPR9 жыл бұрын
Joe Tufano Agreed, not only he wasn't responsible, he didn't feel responsible, his Uncle Ben's death barely had any emotional impact on him. Even though Spider-Man 3 retconned Uncle Ben's death, Sandman killed Uncle Ben by accident, he pulled the trigger because his partner Dennis Caradine caused him to pull the trigger, and Peter was responsible for letting Dennis run off when he had the chance to stop him, regardless whether Spider-Man 3 is canon to you or not, it's still Peter's fault for getting Uncle Ben killed. I can't wait to video myself tearing ''The ''Amazing'' Spider-Man'' apart, I'll rip the movie apart more than Sam from Sam's Channel, I've already written an essay with lots of paragraphs and I've edited it a lot of times. But I don't know when I can video myself, my older sister still hasn't got her new phone and when he gets it she will give her old IPhone 4s to me.

It was really sad to see how Peter's last words to his Uncle Ben were mean, right before he died, but the words that Uncle Ben used were profound, and amazing, and were said in a great way for the iconic line, and for that, I will always remember that line, in the exact way that Cliff Robertson said it. It was so ironic to see that Peter had great power to stop the man who killed his Uncle Ben, and he didn't, and he feels responsible for the death of Uncle Ben for not stopping the killer, when he could have, to prevent his death. This was an important lesson to Peter on how he can apply that wisdom to himself, and how he can keep applying it the rest of his life. This is a great example to show viewers, and fans how remarkable those words are, and how they can affect you, and how you can apply them to your own life. Rest peacefully, Cliff Robertson. You will always be remembered by me, for your greatest adaptation of Uncle Ben out of all Spider-Man movies. I will apply this true line to myself, remembering the way that you said it. ❤💙

A good Philosophy to live by, I have, Back in school I always saw bullys get there way, And felt like I had the power to stop it by standing up for others even at the cost of my own safety, Not because it was a good thing to do it, but it was a responsibility as a good person to do it, All of this was a result of reading and watching spiderman because I never had a father growing up, I could have easily strayed down the wrong path, But reading spiderman and watching the old cartoons from the 60s and 90s served as a guiding figure , aposition that my father left behind when he abandoned me.

I felt something different inside when he said when With great power comes great responsibility 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@ZealStarMedia7 жыл бұрын
I feel that this scene made an entire generation misinterpret what "with great power comes great responsibility" means What most people think it means: "If you have power, use it wisely and not for evil" What it originally meant: "If you can do something, don't hesitate, if doing good is within your power, you should do it" Uncle bens death was not caused by peter misusing his power, it was by not using them at all.
@dauntless07116 жыл бұрын
I think the phrase's original meaning was more similar to Uncle Ben's reaction to Peter's handling of the bully. "Just because you can do something, that doesn't give you the right to" Later, when Peter chooses not to stop a criminal despite having all the power in the world to do so, and this choice makes Peter responsible for Uncle Ben's death, then I think it takes on a dual meaning. "If you can do good, you should"

Peter's sole purpose for being Spider-Man is his heightened sense of responsibility, and willingness to help others. His hard past is what gets him out of bed every morning to make a better future so people don't have to go through what he did. Uncle Ben and aunt may taught him this and without these 2 amazing people who knows what Peter would have done. Just please be the uncle Ben for someone else in their life because just like the movie 1 good deed or kind quote could change someone's life more than you think. Even for the better!
