Sounds like me and my wife with our oldest son. He was killed in Afghanistan serving in the marines. In 2009 he was 24 years old. He joined the service at 18 and spent a few birthdays in war zones. When he passed he had just left back to service after his son was born. We left his SUV parked in our Barn and his bedroom was locked his mother and I would go in his room at different times and cry sometimes together if the other kids were not home. We had another son who had joined up as well at 17 when he graduated from school. He was super close to his brother and he refused to go near his room or his car when he was home but my youngest daughter was his heart and they were the tightest in the family she was little but he always did things with her. 2014 we decided that we needed to go ahead and move to a smaller house and lass land for me to care for. The baby got the keys and went into his room and she took pictures and a video she boxed up his clothes and toys from his childhood that he had in it. The house sold in a day but we kept the land around the house property with the farm property and barns. Around thanksgiving time we went up there for Turkey hunting. My son said that he would like to buy his brothers truck from him and he said that he would not like seeing it waste away in a barn. We pulled the rims and tires off of it and took them back to the city with us. I let my son talk with my wife about it. She told him that she had been upset that he had not asked for it before because she had a note from our son who had passed. She said that she didn’t want to be the one that opened it. Our son opened the letter and he started reading it to us and we both started crying. Hey little brother. If you’re reading this I guess I didn’t make it back. I am sorry I took off on y’all but I thought I knew what I was doing. Now it hurts me so bad to kiss mom and dad goodbye knowing I might not ever get back home. Look after our sisters for us and help my son know who his father was. Don’t destroy my truck. Lol but if you do take it. Your responsible for your little sisters first car. Love ya bro . Ps look in the back of my truck before Christmas I went shopping before I left and I forgot to put my gifts in the house. Well he had Christmas gifts for everyone . Bad part was they had been in the truck for a few years now so when we went back we looked and everything was wrapped. My wife took the gifts when we got home and they were there for our Christmas party on Christmas Eve. My grandson cried when he opened his gifts from his dad they were all baby toys and he was not a baby anymore. It was a great Christmas gift for us all. I'm so sorry man. I'm literally crying because of your very touching story. I'm so sorry about your son. And I wanna thank him, you and the entire family for his service. And I'm sure it's difficult. He's a hero no doubt and I wish you and your family peace and comfort. Take care of yourselves and always remember the good times.

Story 1: NTA NTA NTA When you’re broke and don’t have a job and someone lets you live with them, you should be happy with the floor because it’s a floor with four walls around it and heat. You had ONE rule and they disregarded it. F them. And F your family, too because the family will always call you an AH but they didn’t want to take the disrespectful pieces of garbage in.

honestly for story 4, I think it was a really good idea. I know its kind of against what everyone else said but its a super fast, cost-effective, simple solution to push away half of your entire family! I don't know why people were so angry cause there is no way someone could be so dumb to think that segregating and degrading family members would make them want to stay, its a great way to lose most of your family AND take all the blame! Great! /s

Story 4 HAS to be a joke, because I can’t believe anyone could be that confused about why OP’s coworkers could possibly be mad at him for tricking them into giving him a two dollar “service charge.” What a douce canoe! YTA, and get ready for your coworkers to start charging you for things at the office like running copies

The Wedding Tier System: WTF? My family had very little money. My eldest sister got married, but we couldn't afford much so we had the service at the house. The wedding party consisted of the Bride and one Bride's Maid, the Groom and his Best Man, and the parents of both. There was no dress code, because the entire Groom's half of the wedding guests were farmers and this was July, prime farm time, and the weather was gorgeous . . . they would be going straight from wedding (and any part of the reception they wished to attend) to the fields. They all dressed in farm clothes to make it quicker and easier. Bride's side dressed in Sunday Best because we weren't going to the fields afterwards, but we made sure not to mention this difference and we socialized with all the guests. They were great people! The bride wore her former prom dress (which she had made) and converted it and my Aunt (not a baker or seamstress) made the veil and the wedding cake. We had baby pools filled with ice and a variety of canned and bottled beverages on a help yourself basis. The food was a set of buffet tables with sandwich and salad fixings, again help yourself. After the main group of guests left for work, the rest of us pulled out water guns and some of us took a drive instead of staying at the party. (We waited until the Bride and Groom had left before diving off - - I was one of the driving group). The honeymoon consisted of a week long stay in the local bed and breakfast, a gift from my parents since the Groom's side and the Bride and Groom couldn't afford anything. We still associate with some of them (it's been thirty odd years and many have died, sadly), and never once have we even heard whispers that we were tacky or cheap. Everyone got equal shares of the best we could afford. Heck, I think in the end everyone was just relieved that they weren't expected to take extra time from the fields or dress uncomfortably. My sister never seemed to complain about this (her baby shower later was conducted very similarly and she seemed perfectly content then, too.) How is a tier system acceptable? Just go a bit cheaper in food, etc. Brides who expect things for their special day that are above their budget are being irresponsible dreamers. If you can save the money up to do that, great, but if you can't, suck it up and lower the dream standards to real standards. And don't treat anyone as less than anyone else!

Story 3 hits me so hard, especially after hearing the comment about how old OP is compared to his wife. It hits me hard because that happened to me. My mom divorced my dad because he had huge anger issues. He’s always of the opinion that even the smallest problem has some kind of bigger meaning, and that makes him escalate the conflict into full on shouting. My mom left, and immediately after, he married a woman who was only two years older than me (I was 22 at the time, making her 24, and my dad was 67). And we all saw that she was a gold digger, in it for the money, but she would often using her “hard life” and her 4 year old daughter as leverage to emotionally manipulate him into thinking she genuinely needed the money, so he just couldn’t see it, nor would he listen to me, my mom, or anyone in our family. Needless to say, nobody was on his side. But due to her emotional manipulation, he was ready to disown me and everyone in our family for being “against *him*”. We were trying to save him, but he seemed to think we didn’t care about him at all. But in the end, he had a stroke that left him slower than he used to be. He finally saw her for what she was when she seemed more concerned about the fact that he wasn’t sending her money anymore than his actual health. She even accused him of faking his illness and paying the doctors to give a fake diagnosis. So in the end, he finally saw the error of his ways, she was thrown out, and we were able to be a family again.

2. NTA. Tell her the price of your babysitting service and your hours of operation and the amount of your overtime pay. Or, and this is the better choice, say "no" and stop babysitting. Certainly do not let this affect your actual job.

S1 NTA. He set boundaries and they violated them. He did them a favor and they walked all over it. It could have been the bedroom or not refilling the TP when they use the last of it. It doesn't matter. It's still a broken boundary. Give op some time to grieve, yeesh. S2 NTA. What is with the choosing beggar cameos today? What an entitled parent. "Spending time" is a far cry from babysitting. Op is gonna lose their job if this keeps up. S3 YTA. I get op is grieving, but wow. There's a massive disparity between how the older and younger are treated. Bad bad. S4 YTA. They went expecting to pay the SERVER. Not you. You know, paying them to do their job. That's opportunistic and manipulative. Not on. Also as a US native I love learning British terms and slang! I've picked up a lot from both TV and you, and regularly confuse people by telling them I'm skint. It's accidental, but it would be a lie if I said I didn't find it amusing lol. S5 ESH. When you rank your friends and family, you have to be prepared for them to find out they're literally second rate to you. I understand wanting to save money, but they're there to celebrate with you. If everyone got the same burgers and hot dogs, no one would be pissed about what someone else got. Spend the money you saved on that on more cake. MIL shouldn't have caused a scene, though. Justified to be upset, but idk I don't like scenes like that, involving innocent bystanders by proximity. So ESH.

In story 3, no matter how you felt, it is best to say nothing and keep it to yourself. If you really thought that someone is going to validate your opinion now of all times then you're grossly mistaken. The oldest daughter has a right to feel how she did but she decided not to feel the atmosphere and she told out loud what she thought and was suprised that it didn't go over like she wanted to.
