I'm not going to lie, I've been out of prison for almost 7 years. I STILL make certain prison foods to this day. Wet burritos, what we called "dips" or "spreads". I make a "pizza" but it's nothing like this. I use ritz and saltiness crackers to make the crust. My favorite thing to make then and still now were desserts. Ice cream sandwiches, (yes with some ingenuity, you can make ice cream in jail and/or prison)..strawberry shortcake (minus the whipped topping), cinnamon roll cakes. That was my hustle in prison. I wonder whether all yellow cheese and cheese-like yellow substances use annatto seed for the yellow. It’s cheap, it’s safe (except that a very few people are allergic to it!). It’s also superfluous because cheese isn’t naturally that yellow! Soak annatto seeds in alcohol and much of the color dissolves in the alcohol. You can use the yellow alcohol as a wood stain on pale types of wood… if you want the wood to look sort of like cheese. Exposure to strong light including UV will make the color fade. Yes, I have actually made small pieces of furniture with cheese-colored pale wood.

As soon as he picked up his book i thought he was going to start shredding it to make dough
@titanomachy221720 сағат бұрын
When I was in jail for a couple months for a pot charge they would make this stuff they called "swoll", which came in two forms: savory swoll and sweet swoll. Savory swoll was made using a bag of Fritos and/or a bunch of Saltine crackers that they would crunch up into dust, then put it in a cup and add water, then mix them together so that the Frito or Saltine dust and water form a sort of dough. Sometimes people would eat it right out of the cup, but other times they would flatten out the "dough" and put whatever other salty things they could get from commissary on it, like they'd put Cheetoes on it and then roll it up and it'd be this savory, salty thing that fills you up better than a bag of Fritos by itself. The water would make the "dough" swell up so you'd feel like you had more food, hence the name. And then the sweet swoll would be made up of the cakes we got with our dinners, which most people didn't like cuz they didn't have icing or anything, and they might add in pancakes or bread or whatever, rip it up into little bits, add water and make it into a "dough", roll it out and put whatever other sweet things they could get from commissary into the little roll. It's funny, the guys in my cell block were pretty generous and chill, they would share and engage in horseplay a lot, almost like little kids. There was only like two guys that were unpleasant, and I had friends that would watch my back. One old head (that's what we called the inmates who were in their 50s or older) gave me a strip of Suboxone, an opioid drug, just cuz he felt like being generous, I guess. Never asked for anything in return. Movies and TV shows would insist that can't be so, that he must have been plotting to use that against me to get me to do a favor for him or that he'd try to take advantage of me while I'm zonked on Suboxone, but nope, he seemed like a nice enough gentleman. The most common charge the guys in there had was failure to pay child support. In a way, that charge is the last remaining form of debtor's prison. Seems kinda lopsided to me that we value a woman's right to end a pregnancy, but not a man's right to not take part in raising the child. I mean, if a mother can put her baby up for adoption or even just leave it in a basket in front of a police or fire station without any repercussions, why would you punish deadbeat dads? I'm not saying I approve of abandoning a woman after you impregnate her, I don't, but it is a double standard, and I've never heard of a woman being made to pay child support to a man who has custody of the children. Alimony is way worse though, I mean it is absurd, this notion that someone living in the lap of luxury because of marrying into wealth is entitled to keep living a lifestyle they are "accustomed to" is laughable. Why should rich people be entitled to keep being rich without even having to work for the money? I don't see any good reason for alimony to exist now, in a time when more women go to university than men. Women are independent and should be responsible for themselves, just like men. Alimony is based on patriarchal traditions from a time when women didn't work, and thus relied on men bringing home the bacon. But alas, I digress...I guess my original point is that jail, while very different from prison, isn't much like what is depicted on TV. The worst part was sitting in holding cells that they kept at about 50 degrees Fahrenheit to keep us shivering and docile while we all waited our turns to go to court. Compared to that, being in my cell block and lying on my bunk was a relief. Read some books while I was in there, and watched a bunch of horror movies cuz AMC was having a marathon of them as it was around Halloween. Oh and people cast their ballots for the 2012 election while I was there, too. Literally everyone in the cell block voted for Obama, they were all Democrats. Lol, make of that what you will...I voted for Obama too but my ballot was rejected for some reason, not sure why. I was 18 and hadn't really fleshed out my own political beliefs by then, moreso just going with the flow, agreeing with whatever was more popular in pop culture and whatnot.

The pizzas we made never had vegetables like onions or tomatoes. We just crushed crackers, ramen, chips, and bread together and mixed it with water to make a dough. Spread the dough out in a rectangle and add a layer of squeeze cheese mixed with ramen seasoning. Then throw whatever toppings you want on there - sausage, popcorn, etc.
