It was a decent hotel. I think I paid about $100 for the night. There was a kitchenette in the room, but no lounge in the hotel that I could remember. But there are plenty of restaurants nearby. I was tired when I got there, so I just relaxed with some wine while I backed up my video from that day's drive.

Yes, I know every bit of this drive. The next time you're in this area, head out to Cape Blanco. Besides being the westernmost point of Oregon, the view is absolutely amazing, definitely worth the detour. Near Florence, there are the Oregon Dunes which can get up to 50 feet high, and also Hecate Head Lighthouse to the north. Loved the scenes of Newport. This is my GF's favorite town along the OR Coast. Visit the fish market on Bay Blvd... lots of good local canned fish. Good places to eat and shop there. Also, visit the beach at the end of Olive Street. There are some good places to eat at Nye Beach where you can watch a beautiful sunset during dinner. The next time you're in Tillamook, visit the creamery. The ice cream is very satisfying. Also, head straight west from Tillamook to visit Oceanside and Cape Mears. Visit Manzanita Bay... a beautiful coastal town. And, of course, visit Cannon Beach. Seaside is the official end of the Lewis and Clark Trail. The Columbia River is the lifeblood of the NW. All of the water that you saw crossing the river at Astoria came from all of the creeks, streams, and rivers all throughout Western MT, NW Wyoming, Idaho, SE BC, Oregon, and Eastern WA. If you wondered, the Columbia River comes from Columbia Lake up in the Columbia Valley in BC between Banff NP and the Purcells. The Kootenay River feeds the lake from the south via the Canal Flats. The Kootenay starts up in the west side of the Rockies in Kootenay NP. The Kootenay goes down into NW MT and then back up to BC via the ID Panhandle and empties into the Columbia up at Castlegar, BC.

@@unclecoolie This will give you a reason to come back for another visit. The Olympic Peninsula has a lot of amazing places to visit as well, not just Olympic National Park but the whole peninsula. Idaho also has a lot of spectacular places to visit beyond Sun Valley, places only the locals go to but are scenic minus the people. Visit Stanley and the Sawtooth Mountains. They're as spectacular as what you'd find in national parks but without all of the people. The Franck Church River of No Return Wilderness area is a little visited but very rugged, scenic part of ID. Back in the 1930s, they called this The Primitive Area and for good reason. Northern ID has a lot of scenic river valleys, mountain ranges and lakes that only the locals go to. If you like scenic rolling farmland with an unusual geologic morphology, visit the Palouse region near Moscow and Lewiston ID and the SE part of WA centering on Colfax. This area is covered with loess (wind-blown silt) and is the result of the Great Flood caused when the ice dam holding Glacial Lake Missoula gave way, causing the entire lake to empty out all over Eastern WA in a massive rushing flood, creating the Palouse and also the Scablands. This was the closest thing to the Great Flood described in the Bible, but this really happened. The Bitterroot mountains running along the ID/MT border are large, snow-capped, spectacular mountains and much less visited than places like Rocky Mountain NP. The Cabinet Mountains in NW MT are also rugged, snow-covered mountains visited only by the people who live in that part of MT. When in Wyoming, visit the Grand Tetons and also the Wind River Range. During the 2017 solar eclipse, some people climbed to the top of Grand Teton and videoed the eclipse.

You were in Goonies and Stand By Me territory and there was a community somewhere along the Oregon Coast called Seaside. Don't know if it still exists or not, but I remember when I did a trip down the coast and we ended up staying in Ilwaco Washington, which is right on the Pacific ocean in one of the farthest points northwest you can go in the country and one of the most rough in terms of getting the full force of the winter storms which shear the trees apart.

@@unclecoolie Too bad you didn't have time to stop at either the Tillamock Dairy Factory or Cannon Beach in OR, I went to both those places on my Oregon/Washington trip in Sept, both are awesome, Tillamock factory had good cheese and ice cream made all natural from local farms. Cannon had Haystack Rock and a nice coastal town.

I love doing these road trips, but the biggest flaw is that I have very limited time to do them, so I've been maximizing the time versus exploring. If I had more time, I'd definitely do more exploring. Even when I did my drive from Omaha to Santa Monica and back to Omaha last year - 4,400 miles over six days - I visited a dozen national parks, but I still didn't get to explore as much as I'd wanted. If for some reason I get copious amounts of free time, I will do more in-depth drives. As it is I'm planning such drives near my home, which is in Fairfax County, VA.

If you tap on the video, 3 dots in the top right corner of the video screen will show up, click on the 3 dots, and a menu will pop up, click on the words “playback speed”, and you can make the speed of the video game at most 2x faster or 2x slower

@unclecoolie6 жыл бұрын
@@thomasturner6980 I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were asking. I don't put the speed on there only because I sometimes exceed the speed limits, and I don't want to give some gung ho law enforcement any reason to try to come after me, lol.

OK I watched the 101 trip because I have done parts it several times. One dashcam pointed at a bumper in front of you? No 360, no stop to pan the scenario, zooming past places that I know have ocean views and you don't even show the ocean. You shot past the town of Trinidad, where I lived for over a year and is a gorgeous fishing village, and I saw nothing but highway signs and the bumper in front of you. As much as you spend in time, food, gas, you can;t buy another G0-PRO and pause to get a real sense of where you are. All I can tell from your travel video is that there is a strip of pavement from San Diego to Vancouver.

I thought about getting a 360 degree camera, but logistics and lack of money are why I couldn't get one.
