These vids have basically told me that carp are quite wary of popups when there's lots of boilies near the hookbait. The pop up when it is taken seems to be the very last thing on offer...

The older/larger fish that are wise to a lot of regularly used baits are always the hardest to catch. If youre dead set on using boilies, I would suggest cutting them into weird shapes before putting them on the hook. Carp are wise to the round shape of bollies but odd shapes they dont recognise makes them more curious and more likely to inhale it. Ive had good catches on different coloured rubber corn so experiementing with colours can also help catch fish. The current fad with my local club fishery seems to be different coloured bits of foam in a 'zig rig' Though a foam hooked up to a regular hair rig would probably also work.

Been fishing for carp at least 10 years, where sturgeon were also present in large numbers, but have never caught a single sturgeon on boilies. They always require fresh bait, like worms or fish.

Little tip: If you wanna reduce the cost per catch try making them homemade, they usually work as good as the bought ones and they end up costing a lot less than the bought ones
