The manager in the first story broke united states federal law. Employers are legally required to release an employee on short notice in this situation, and cannot punish you for it.

Ok so this is gonna sound weird, but the line about horses not being able to tell time isn’t entirely true. I worked at a horse ranch and fed them every morning at the same time. Whenever daylight savings would happen, the horses would freak out! Start kicking their stalls and stuff because they expected their food and knew it was late-and sadly I couldn’t explain the concept of daylight savings to a horse. So yeah, only partially true.
@AceOfTinyGhostsКүн бұрын
Oh yeah- you try not feeding a cranky mare at the same time every morning and see if you still have a stall left after that 😂😂 They absolutely can tell time
@LarszardКүн бұрын
Anyone who has ever owned any animal should know if there's one thing animals are good at it's knowing when it's feeding time
@JairoTakan_Күн бұрын
Its not telling time, its simply getting used to a routine. Look up the dog, bell and food experiment (I forget what its called) When you feed an animal everyday at a similar conditions (In your case, early morning with sunrise) it creates a pattern and hence routine that at this time, i should expect food. Its not the animal being able to tell time, its just it knowing a routine
@timhuber2814Күн бұрын
@ lol yeah I get that, I’m not suggesting those horses were actually telling time. But yeah, even an hour late and they’d really flip out. They knew the routine painfully well

I rage quit a subway when I was 19. I was opening that store alone every day 5am until 2. We always had messed up or missing orders and this day were completely out of shredded cheese turkey tuna meatballs flat bread and hadn’t been able to make cookies because I was alone running a store on the beach in Florida. After the 4th person cursed me out I closed and called the manager, he came in yelling and I just walked out. Nope I was too young to care and honestly still don’t.

The last straw for me was the fact that they continuously said that they would give me a raise of $0.14 for 6 months and they never gave it to me. It was an internship at Goodwill in the IT side. I eventually lost my crap on payroll and HR and screamed at them. I no longer trust Goodwill because of this.

Only place I quit was Taco Bell in Silverdale Washington, I was the cleaning guy and usually did regular cleaning inside and outside of the restaurant. One morning, it was about 5 minutes before we opened, a guy who had just had hernia surgery really, really needed to use the bathroom. My manager told me to not let him in, he proceeded to have explosive diarrhea all over the front entryway. I was forced to clean it up, and as soon as I was half done I quit. I didn't sign up to clean up biohazard waste without proper PPE.

Comment for Story 1: Company Owner: "You should come in Saturday, since he should be dead by then." ....That absolute unfiltered butthole of a company owner needs to KEEP HER MOUTH SHUT, if she can't be respectful about her employees and their family members, ESPECIALLY if a family member or loved one is on the VERGE OF PASSING ON! She's LUCKY that only OP had quit calmly, and didn't decide to lose their crap on them entirely, or even blasted them online.

Reminds me of an instance where a young working mom lost her baby during the pregnancy and one of her coworkers tried to comfort her by saying something like: "Well, at least you didn't lose the baby after it was born. This way it's less of a loss." I had to pause the reddit video when I heard that. I was floored. Miscarriage is one of my biggest fears. The utter lack of (or not even any attempt) of empathy in the story is utterly staggering. That's why I never try to input my own feelings when someone is feeling something strong, positive or negative. I try to follow up with "And how does that make you feel? Tell me about it." And trust me, that's always the right answer.

I was working as a receptionist at a budget walk in hairdresser in a shopping centre. I am not a hairdresser. I have no training in being a hairdresser. I know nothing about hairdressing. I just did bookings, quotes, answered the phone, and would occasionally sweep hair if it was busy. One afternoon I got a call asking for a quote for a wash and blow wave. I asked how long and what texture her hair was, as the price varies. She said it was shoulder length and straight and I gave her a quote based on that description. She seemed happy. A few hours later a woman comes in with curly hair down to her waist. She got a wash and blow wave and when she went up to pay was horrified at the cost "I called earlier and was quoted this much, but you're charging almost double that" I ask her if she was the one who told me that her hair was straight and shoulder length, she said "yes, because I knew you would charge me more if you knew my hair was long and curly" I just stared at her dumbfounded, explained the quote was based on her description, and given her description was wrong, the quote was wrong. Not to mention it was a verbal quote, nothing in writing, so we can't be held to it. She starts yelling and the store manager comes over to see what the fuss was about. This woman tells her that I quoted her wrong and she's only paying the quoted price and should actually pay less because of the hassle. I try to explain that she lied over the phone and admitted to lying but the manager was having none of it. She apologised to the dumb lady, gave her a discount on top of the lower price and said the difference would be coming out of my pay. I told her that was illegal (which it is in Australia) and that I was going on break. I did go on break. That break has lasted over a decade. I now live on the other side of the country. I don't think I'll come back from my break any time soon.

My Nan was dying, as in we didn’t know how long but it could have been any moment. I took time off work, we didn’t have leave or anything for stuff like that. But work was given one of two choices, ether fire me on the spot or handle me being gone as longn as needed. Amazingly I wasn’t fired for it some how, they later fired me for being “drunk” at work. I wasn’t, but I feel that was there pay back

i rage quit at burger king after being the only employee for months who would cut my hours for others to stay cuz of labor being high. then the final straw i was the only person doing dishes for the past 4 months everyone would purposely make them extremely messy just to make me cry and other employees, like they are suppose to never helped me washed them and let them pile up. well one day morning shift decided to not do them and i came in and was told back cash and dishes. the dishes mind you filled up three sinks which was our only sinks and the countertop well in the middle of rush i was doing them half of them fell over. i looked down and yelled “oh my fing god” and the manager if you see this conner i still hope you loose ur job said “what is ur problem” i yelled back loud in front of about 30 customers “maybe cuz im tired of being the only one doing the work and yall not helping me while you lolly gag around” he told me to get out and tried stealing my vape and i had enough of that after he said i wouldn’t be allowed my vape back and keep in mind im 21 at this time, i threw my hat down tore off my shirt and walked into the office and grabbed my vape and walked out. so amanda if you see this as well f u u sorrry wh0re

The story about the finance guy/story 2 reminds me of a job interview I was at. The ad said customer service but it was a "don't let the customer cancel their subscription" kind of job. I hate that. Idm arguing for why they shouldn't but I also don't want to pressure them more than maybe a couple of times. This employer demanded 7(!!!) rounds of "but what if..?" and "how about this OTHER subscription?" rather than accepting a no/cancellations. It didn't help that 75% of the customer base were elderly. I wasn't sad when I didn't get the job, as I would never feel good about "tricking" the elderly into keeping their subscription or forcing them to get a new one, making it sound like I did them a favour. Idm customer service jobs (even though I don't like doing it over the phone). I pride myself of being pretty good at it and I've been able to turn around customers simply by talking to them. I'm always getting on their level, I'm not the sales person who's trying to trick them into something they don't want and I show them I understand that no means no. And that last fact is usually how I get them to accept. Because I treat them like people..! And even if I couldn't get them to accept, then they would end the call thinking of ME as a human being too because I treated them as such. That's the kind of customer service I can provide, not the pushy "this deal is better but is def gonna cost you a lot more than what you originally agreed to" salesperson. So maybe (phone) sales isn't my type of job xD

I quit a job at a grocery store for a few reasons. The last straw was when they had been cutting my hours and scheduled me for hours that I literally couldn't get there for. Now, when I finally get an answer as to where all of my hours went, it was. "Oh, we're bringing in a new guy next week and we need to make room on the schedule for him." This is the same place that put me in the produce department knowing that I'm red green colorblind, and absolutely refused to pay me any other way than a physical check. The only job I've ever just walked out of to this day.

I worked at a certain parcel service's largest package sorting center, where USPS and imports were also processed. I had some wonky wording in my contract that allowed them to take away my off days (lesson learned, don't assume it's just bad english) and make me work unlimited hours, and they had me work a month and a half of full time shifts without an off day. People had been quitting left and right due to this arrangement, and every time someone quit, the work load got shunted onto everyone else. On my last day, a massive walk out left one of the work areas empty of employees, and management decided I could handle the work of 15 people by myself for the next 7 hours. I lasted about an hour, but a supervisor, who had been shooting the shit with his buddies in full view of my work area, started nagging me to work faster (keep in mind, i was doing work meant for 15 people, and i was actually keeping things from getting backed up). I turned around, flipped him off with both hands, and walked out. I have some issues, so a double middle finger and a walk-out is actually a pretty mature response for me. I'm still friends with some folks who work there, and it's gotten even worse due to people telling others not to apply

Story # is so real. I had a professor in college whose first language was Japanese and it was a hard class because his accent was THICK. We had a quiz and everyone missed one of the questions so I asked about it because I think the question was written confusing and that the answer might be wrong because of the definition of a word. I sent this in a private message. He called me out in front of the entire class and said it’s not HIS fault I don’t have a solid grasp on gramma. This was an accounting class.

I quit working at a certain gem/bead distribution company after what essentially boiled down to ridiculous expectations from someone who just started. I walked out after I was once again lectured on not meeting my asinine quota. Never got a call or official notice I was fired. And then, I got my final paycheck in the mail rather than direct deposit. It turns out that since I was hired, I was being paid less than their promised starting wage. Definitely was not a minimum wage job. Glad I got out of there.

I had an impatient elderly lady hit me when I was working in a cafe. Had upper management in that day, who told me not to be upset about it (I asked for her to be kicked out). I was so furious I almost threw my apron at the guy and walked out, but we were extremely busy and I didn't want to drop the other people there in it, so I quit a few weeks later instead, after the same upper management tried to make us all stay past when we were getting paid and keep serving new customers despite having closed 20 minutes previously. I did walk out at that point, at 5:30 when I stopped getting paid to do anything else.
