Ive tried using a CPAP since 2007 and it hasnt worked. The pressure is too much for me. Sleep apnea is linked to Afib and I just had that a week ago. Time to try my machine again, but love the idea of the Bipap machine. Was it alot more expensive?

Just love your new baby and kiddos. Nothing more wonderful than a new baby. I am getting ready to go in the hospital for my overnight study for sleep apnea. My Doctor has stated that I more than meet all the criteria for sleep apnea. I have severe anxiety, PTSD, panic attacks and claustrophobia (I am a freekin mess). I am so glad I found your channel and I am definitely going to talk to my Doctor (after my study) about the BIPAP machine. I do not trust Doctors wholeheartedly when recommending what they think I might need. I want to be well informed when I talk to my Doctor and I sincerely thank you for this posting. God bless you and your little family.

Hey Philip, I have an appointment coming up to request switching to bipap from cpap. Have had it for a year now and am struggling to adhere to the constant exhale pressure. I've been using mine around 3 weeks. The first almost 2 weeks I really struggled breathing against the pressure (I'm at 11psi) I had to rip the mask off on more than one occasion because I felt like I was suffocating and would begin hyperventilating. I did some research and saw they made a BIPAP and called my supplier to ask about one and they urged me to keep trying the CPAP as they said I would at have to make an effort before my insurance would possibly cover a bipap. I set the ramp from auto to 45 minutes and it seemed to help. I think most of my problems breathing were mental. I was focusing so much on my breathing that I was forcing myself to breathe way more than I do if I'm just breathing normally and not thinking about it. I am finally getting used to breathing but I still struggle to get comfortable and fall asleep and seem to wake up alot due to discomfort of my mask (Airfit F20) I sleep on my side and it can be hard to maintain a good seal, and when it does have a good seal I'm not in a comfortable position. I am going to try one of the different fullface masks that don't go completely over your nose like the philips amara view or one similar to it. I am making progress though. I never thought I would even begin to get used to it but I am slowly adjusting. Good luck and keep at it.

I was started on a cpap even though I have very severe sleep apnea......nearly six months of not being able to keep it on due to the high pressure on exhale and I was really about done with it. A friend of mine mentioned he had to use a BiPap...which I had never heard of. Sooooooooo.......I requested a sleep study with a BiPap and lo and behold....it was great. The lower exhale pressure was the game changer. Now my pressures on bipap currently are 20 inhale and 16 for exhale. Yes you would think that the exhale is still high, but it started out much lower until I could get more used to it. Without a bipap my sleep apnea is over 160 events per hour and will go up even higher at times, so YES, I need to really use a bipap when sleeping. A bipap was the ticket for me to control my severe sleep apnea.

Thank you Nick for your "easy to understand" explanation of the difference. I got my CPAP Jan -20 and had of course som difficulties getting used to it in the beginning but the feeling of being more awake and clear in my head outweighted it. However, this honeymoon lasted only for a month and then my tiredness came back, Tried different masks and my last one is the newer version that doesnt cover the whole nose completely but the mouth and has a little "whole upwards to the nostrils. In any case I am having a real hell every night since I wake up and even though I am breathing the pressure is continuing at 11-12. The little mask face on the machine is red and angry. Try to adjust the mask and turn it off (as instructed by my cpap clinic) but it just is an on going problem. I am aware that I absolutely need help so I hold out for appr 3,5-4 hours every night but I am awaken several times because this pressure not stopping. I also find it hard to breathe out but gotten used to that (or more accepted it). Yesterday one of my colleagues had seen a phot I posted on my fb and told me that I should try a BIPAP. He is a doctor and told me that once they switched him to one of those he had a dramatic change. I find it peculiar that I never even been informed about an alternative since I had aperiod of 5 months when I just gave up and stopped using my machine and the nurses at my CPAP reception never suggested a BIPAP only different masks (some of the older versions than recently developed). I do not have KOL and they have measured my blood gases during day time and I do not retain kolmonoxide. My doctor colleague said that to get an accurate reading of that it should be done right after sleeping and not late in the afternoon. I have become more and more depressed since I am soo tired daytime that I can hardly concentrate after 1-2 pm. I have had a strange oxygen level of 86-91% when I am moving (not sitting or relaxing) but they have made several lung tests and not found an answer to this. Sorry for this long comment but I find it strange that noone suggested a BIPAP to me and I guess I am asking for some good arguments to use when I book a time to my CPAP reception at the hospital to let them at least give me one to try. Any suggestions. Yes with the new mask do I also have a leakage of appr 31 liter/min. I am also somewhat annoyed that they are not giving me any instructions in how to adjust my min and max pressure. Appreciate all suggestions but foremost arguments to let them give me a BIPAP to try. Thank you. Great instructional clip and congrats to your not so very new one anymore but if I understand it right your little 1+ year old. Susanne

Mate. The best vid online ever with the bub and the kiddos! Very concise. Very clear information! But yeah bro, the kiddos in the end is awesome! Also, I've just realised I was actually having a problem adjusting to my Resmed Auto Airsense 10! I was "fighting" against the airflow.

That B-PAP machine sounds like it is so much easier on your body. I am going to my sleep specialist some time in January and I am going to see about at least trying one. I hope 2022 is better than 2020 or 2021 although we do have the vaccines now. Take care. from Florida. I wish I had discovered you earlier.

Hi Nick! Congrats on your precious family ♥️ I got a CiPAP months ago. I had COVID induced Pneumonia, went into Respiratory Failure. The whole thing was a mess! I was hallucinating because my Co2 was so low. Anyway...I feel intimidated by this CiPAP machine! Every night I swear I'm going to use it, but every night I....."forget." 😣 I really appreciate your videos! You're so down to earth about all of this! Maybe tonight will be my night to try! 😊

I have been using auto cpap on a resmed machine just like that one for 4 years. Cpap has helped me, and I have never had problems using mine. I put it on and go to sleep right away. But still over these years I still have lots of daytime sleepiness and tired all the time. So here soon I'm going for another sleep study to see if I have central sleep apnea and if I do I will get a bipap machine. This video was very helpful thank you for explaining the differences in the machine.

I was prescribed a Bi-pap and told by my respiratory therapist that this was the only machine I can use given the severity of my condition. Also apparently Philips (yes I was affected by the recall) and Resmed are the only companies that manufacture the type of machine I need.

Thanks for the video. I've been using a CPAP machine for four and a half years but, for the past month, have dealt with severe insomnia every night despite using CPAP. I noticed in this period that there were instances where I'd go a few days without sleep but it's never been as long as I'm currently experiencing. I did make an appointment with my health network to get a BiPAP machine as it appears I'd respond better: my OSA is severe (about 50 apneas per hour), I'm a mouth breather (they say BiPAP is best for these types). I'm hoping it works EDITED TO ADD: By the way, I went to Melbourne and Sydney almost exactly five years ago. Both were lots of fun but I prefer Melbourne. Aussies in both cities were incredibly nice to me! I hope to get back there someday.

Hi there and thanks for the great feedback. If you are doing okay with standard CPAP therapy i would probably just upgrade to an Auto CPAP rather than i BiPAP (just due to the cost etc) but if you're quite comfortable financially then you could certainly consider a BiPAP also. Have a great day and best wishes for 2021

I tried sleeping without my CPAP last night. I kept waking up with a raw sore throat. I have a recall unit with a supposed authorized external filter that looks like a miniature cylindrical space ship placed at end of hose and attaches to full face. I put a cough drop in my mouth, ending up using two cough drops and put my CPAP on again. Got up late morning drinking hot water to soothe throat. This week I’m buying a resmed. I don’t know if I’ll get- your doc has to put in a prescription again to delay as was done before to get a new dream machine late 2019 or early 2020 before Covid hit the news. So I’ll have to deal with my dead beat doc who has been worthless during recall. And maybe my insurance will help and maybe it won’t. I cant sleep without one. I did consider duck taping my mouth shut. I so appreciate you. USA- Kimi

Hey Nick, thank you for your videos. I started a little over a year ago with a ResMed CPAP (moderate sleep apnea). I really struggled and within a short time, I was diagnosed with treatment emergent sleep apnea (that’s time was a crazy journey). Anyway, I was changed to a BiPap and this time I was given a choice of ResMed or Philips, and I chose the Philips (Hmm! Bad decision). However, even with the recall, I still use it nightly to get a good nights sleep and hoping Philips will send me a new machine this year. The BiPap made a huge difference for me.

Hi Guys, i need your help. One of the big cpap manufacturers is trying to take down the CPAP Reviews channel. Who knows what the next few days will bring. I know many of you don't like Facebook so here's a link to my newsletter. I will not spam you but will let you know where you can find me. Newsletter - eepurl.com/hz1ffH If you do wish to join the private FB group which is a bit more personable i feel then here's the link to that. FB Group - facebook.com/groups/138127984943408 You are also helping by subscribing to the channel (even though it will probably go under) and liking / sharing the vid on your fb groups / forums / reddit / twitter etc If you are a passionate person and want to stand behind me and our cpap reviews community then you can send them an email. Nothing nasty, just support emails please - reception.sydney@resmed.com.au I have created a shared dropbox folder with modified versions of the original vids and removed any 'copyright'. Here's the link and i will be adding to the folder. www.dropbox.com/sh/oxxyzmdzr9zya98/AACodFbQ1A8mBoagV3omg75ea?dl=0 I'm honestly exhausted. It's a very difficult time here in Melbourne with another lockdown and the whole family is just super flat. I'm not sure what the future holds but hopefully we can continue this journey together. Stay safe and look out for one another as i know you all will. Nick

Hi Sandra, thanks for that. I'm certainly blessed in the regard. Glad to hear you're doing well with your airsense :-). With the dry mouth, just make sure you preheat your humidifier water and turn up the humidifier level as high as you can. Apart from that, there's not a whole lot you can do but i am going to do a video on dry mouth and mouth breathing in the near future. Best wishes for 2021

Sandra, Jack has excellent advice, but may I add, consider asking your doctor to lower the air pressure prescription, use the ramp, so the air pressure is gradually increased. Also, I brush my teeth and gargle with mouthwash just before putting on my mask, to keep my mask fresh. Another thing, every morning I wipe out my mask with a clean damp cloth. Hope this helps!
