Ali Soufan's "Iran’s Playbook: Deconstructing Tehran’s Regional Strategy" (web article or free PDF download) summed this up very well, in 2019. IRI prefers to fight and make trouble beyond their borders, so they don't have to fight on their own turf. Having external enemies helps the regime preserve itself. Khomeini's strategy of having a multi-polar regime (Supreme Leader, Guardian Council, Clergy, IGRC, etc.) protects the overall regime from change by decapitation via a coup, foreign or domestic. And stifles democratic change via the same chokepoints where election candidates are subject to clerical approval. The IRI is not irrational. This is how Iran - in all its forms - has preserved itself from invasion, disintegration or even permanent hegemony from outside powers. Even when the British and the USA dominated the Petro sector, Iran remained whole - no matter the corruption or incompetence of its own rulers or regimes. The Iranian regime's long game is up there with The Vatican.

Regardless of Iran's patience and what they believe about achieving divine goals, the IRGC has one foot in the abyss and it is only a matter of time before the IRGC is gone! Yes, patience is the keyword! Only: how can you help them to recon that Abraham was never a moslem neither the tribes he left behind? When I first learned about the tunnel-constractions I thought it would be impousible to overcome the task and feared deeply for your. Glad you (IDF/Israel) are smarter then me! But this deeply routed misconception of historical facts are a thousand times deeper than any tunnel they ever build - and no amount of explosives can ever destroy it! Or do I miss some importand facts? Thank very much for your insights!

It is always considered appropriate to point out things about others that define them enough to clarify their motives, but not so much when we take a look at ourselves. Although definitely not alone in the concept of a messiah as a strategic motivation to maintain hope, the Abrahamic religions all use this encouragement. I am not criticizing that. I am just pointing out that a long term, strategic view in competing groups is not helpful at bringing out the best that humanity can achieve. It is essentially suboptimization on a large scale. Starting with a history of annihilation of the competition that brought us from our origins through late antiquity, a strategic approach has become ubiquitous for political entities. On the national and religious levels, we can plainly see that this approach is well suited to benefit by those in power. This is not to say that the development of such mechanisms was not present before States and Nations became the de facto organizing factor in the World. While Iran is a great problem, and not just for Israel, we must recognize that other forces in the Middle East are operating on their own version of the Messiah, or more practically the savior cult of personality meme. This will explain in some ways the fact that Jolani will be able to do pretty much anything using the Stalinistic iron hand in a velvet glove methodology without criticism from the Muslim World. That situation may usher in a greater long term threat to stability, even if it quiets down a small portion of the current hot zone.

The malignant regime in Tehran has lost its logistical route/tanticles functioning via Syria territories as the ally regime is destroyed recently. It seems like the crushing blows delivered to Hezbollah by the IDF and the collapse of the Iranian and Russian backed regime in Damascus are drastically rewarding for Israel. Iran will have to recalculate or recalibrate his expansionist roadmap or agenda.

IRI is not expansionist per se. They do not seek to expand their territory. They just choose to fight on others' territories to protect their own birders and preserve the clerical/IGRC regime. Keep your neighbors weak, sow chaos and division, build proxies to fight your enemies and THEIR proxies (Israel via Hezbollah, KSA in Yemen via the Houthis, etc.)

Most of what you said is correct, but you did not have to compare (even in one sentence) the Shia concept of the Mahdi with the Jewish belief in the Messiah. What purpose was that stupid statement. And if you were going to make it you could have at least included Christianity who also believe in the coming of a Messiah.
