Thank you for sharing the application of this kata! This is important to learn from the kata. Without learning the application, kata becomes a form "dance". I wish more teachers would teach the application of the kata to their students. I say: Better to learn one kata and know the application, than learn ten katas and don't understand what they mean.

I am taking from my own perspective , from the point of view of someone who has been practicing karate for several years and lives in south america. I've been lucky and I found really good teachers during this journey but I happen to realize and maybe a little too late, this has to do with how in love I was with the art, that probably tradition is what really make me love this art, tradition being practicing what has been practiced for a long time. But for a long time people have forgotten or never learnt the application of kata. I tried to find this information by myself what I always heard some things that did not sound right. I mean, we always get to this point where someone is defending himself from a straight punch. I finally accepted that probably i won't be able to get much more information about this so I started cross training. Jujitsu and boxing is what I'm also doing now. This has helped me kind of understand some kata applications but most important it gave new tools, proven tools, that really help me with my defense and attack. There's a chance I am doing something hidden on a kata while I do box, but it does not matter anymore to me , what matters is that I am incorporating this knowledge no matter where it comes from. I still practice karate by myself almost daily but I practice it because it is something that I truly love. I love how it made me grow in some areas where other arts might have not been able to help me do it, and I love this idea of never stopping, that one always has a lot more to give than what we think. Now about self defense, I learnt way more from this 2 new arts I have been studying for this last year than what I have learnt in 30 years while practicing karate

the guy or girl who recorded this has no clue about karate, because you cant record a video without showing the whole dachi (Stance). Also dont forgett, the bunkai here, are kihon bunkai, there are almost three levels of bunkai, this here is the basic one, which i already love too. but still its a simple application!

@bluenose0073 жыл бұрын
No its from Okinawa
@georgefoley97933 жыл бұрын
It does not originate from Silat, but it is related due to the influence of Chinese martial arts (Crane style especially) that spread across various parts of Asia through trade. From Indonesia (Silat) to the Philippines (Kali) to Okinawa (Chinese Hand before it became Karate), and eventually to Japan and Korea.

I’m sorry but a lot of these applications are wrong,if u look at the old books which a lot of old karate masters wrote before karate was introduced to japen and watered down,Kata was simply grappling and striking with your opponent,plus the way they punch is completely unrealistic,the hikite was meant for pulling the opponent towards u and hitting with the other,Kata is close range,and there Bunkai can easily be found false by reading quotes and stuyding books that the old masters wrote,Gichin funakashi,Choki motobu,and kenwa mubani,they all disagree with this😂😂

Why doesn’t karate practices the way the old masters practiced it,it’s literally written in old text on how karate and the Bunkai is suppose to look like,How we can find grappling,joint locks,strangles,and submission holds in Kata,Okinawan karate today has a reversed influence,this ain’t real karate at all😂😂ppl like Jesse Enkamp,Iain Abernathy and Sensi Patrick McCarthy have been doing great finding the roots of karate and practicing it Practically and not some unrealistic version like this😂

This doesn’t make sense. Does it really take decades of practice of intricate movements just to evade and/or block punches? 🤔 I think not. The true meanings (bunkai) will not be revealed, at least not on a KZbin video. This is bread and circuses for the masses. Looks great though. Most likely the real meaning behind these movements are to attack vital points on the body which will result in temporary paralysis or worse.

@onedirection35103 жыл бұрын
@@vinvass2674 Yeah I don’t know if I necessarily buy into his theories either. However like I said it’s just not plausible that anybody needs decades of practice to perfect a simple block. I do respect body condition though. Hitting pressure points does makes a huge difference if you’ve ever experienced it.
