That was brilliant. You really cleared that up for me. I'm sewing a dress for an up coming party, so, fingers crossed my neckline will look like the one you just demonstrated. Thank you so very much.

I was looking for something else on under stitching but never the less I stayed and watched and learned something new. Thank you for being so easy to understand. DO you have a video about under stitching a button flap on a dress shirt?

Hi Louise. Your machine won't let you get to the very end so you do have to stop short. You can either reverse stitch or do what I did, which was to knot and tie off the threads inside of the collar. Hope that helps.

I've have been enjoying your tutorials just to be familiar with the various stitch work and foot choices needed for the sewing. Your techniques demonstrations have been easy for me to follow. My question to you would be. Do you ever go over basic knowledge needed when doing basic upholstery work (seat cushions, pillows and the sort)? In addition, I would love to see you show how you do welt seams; make double welt and surging fabric edge and other upholstery stitches.

Wonderful tut! You saved the day again, my pattern's single sentence on the matter wasn't enough for me to figure out what exactly it mean't to "understitch." I wish I had know this technique sooner! I can think of one or two garments that could have benefited from this technique. Funny, it seems like my projects are taking longer and longer to complete, but looking more and more professional. That's the tradeoff I guess, THANKS AGAIN!! :D
@colleenglea
@colleenglea 13 жыл бұрын
@nevroth Not a bad trade off - time for professionalism. As time go's on, you will find that you'll speed up and get the same great results. Keep at it and FashionSewingBlogTV will continue to make these video's in the hope it helps to get over some of those fashion sewing hurdles.

I have been sewing a long time, but just very simple things. I'm trying to learn how to sew simple clothing like shift dresses, uncomplicated tops, etc. I am in the middle of a dress project and your videos are helping me so much I thought I would take a minute to thank you for them. I love that they are clear and simple to understand and that you took the time for good close-up camera work. I also think your voice is very calming and for a novice like me nervously trying to complete her first dress with fabric everywhere, pattern pieces, pins on the floor, etc., calm is good... very good....

Another item that has improved my item, I have also invested in a number of different feet, latest is a big toe foot so I can jude my top stitch better, checked your top stitch tutorial too and its made my neck great.

@sakura851 Understitching is always on the inside of the garment. It's to stop the facing from moving or being seen on the right side. Hope that helps a little.

I'd give you a heart, if they had that option! I wonder why I was never taught the term "Understitch" in Home Ec Classes (which was in the '60's). Thank you so much for your excellent examples and work!

Thank you so much again for your fantastic tutorial. Could you do one for decreasing the size of a pattern? I have a pattern for a 7 yr old but she's only 4 and I would like to decrease the chest/bust but I don't know how to, it would be great if you could. Thanks once again
