For those who don't know what Undertaker is alluding to, it was the night of WrestleMania 14. After what happened with Bret and the Screwjob, as well as people just being tired of HBK's attitude in general, some felt that Shawn would go into business for himself and not drop the WWF title to Stone Cold, or purposely have a bad match to not make Austin look good. Jim Cornette explains in detail in his Timeline: The History of WWE - 1997 shoot interview with Sean Oliver of Kayfabe Commentaries, that after his match with Kane was done, Undertaker simply went back to the Gorilla position, wrapped up his hands in tape, sat down in a chair and watched the main event match. And as soon as the match was over, and Austin went over as planned, Taker simply unwrapped his hands, then went to the locker room to change. It is widely believed that if Shawn did not put over Austin, or did anything to make Austin look bad or foolish, he would have faced some severe consequences in the back, specifically The Undertaker beating the ever loving piss-fuck out of him for not doing what was good for the business moving forward (dropping the title to Steve Austin).

Ultimate disrespect between professionals. 3) It was in Bret's contract that he had every right to refuse if he wanted to anyway. There are oodles of sources that back all of this dude. Shawn back in the late 90s was a selfish prick whom most people hated and thought he could sabotage yet another person's time in the spotlight (Austin) and would've if not for the real goat ready to kick his ass if he didn't this time around. There s a match I have an In Your House I can't remember what year and I have to dig it out of cob webs but there s match between Taker and Shawn and the match is brutal. I'll never understand why Michaels was ever worth the trouble. As great as he was at putting on a match, it never lead to big money, and each and every time they pushed him they could have made as much or more with someone else on the roster. Vader could have drawn as much or more in 96. Bret could have played the heel going to WM14 ( and have lasted until WM16 as main heel to Austin). In the IC realm Shane Douglas would have drawn just as much. Hall certainly did. This has to come down to Vince simply liking him and wanting to push him.

The rest of the guys you mentioned( and i love them) don’t hold up to either hbk or bret, ratings or otherwise. The actual culprit of buy rates is the shallow roster with shallow characters…not to mention presence of a rival promotion that had an angle that looked legitimate & hulk hogan ffs.

undertaker didnt go up to shawn and tell him to do the job or else, shawn knew he had to cause of his back injury. Yes, undertaker was going to fight him if he didnt do the job but he didnt confront him. Even if shawn was a prick it doesnt limit him as a performer/entertainer, there are many other wrestlers who were pricks too but doesnt mean they suck
