It’s the bullet design! Varmaggedon is designed to fragment violently upon impact! It does just this VERY WELL! It’s almost explosive on its targets out of a 16” barrel and even out to 200yards its very accurate and good for critters roaming around the farm! A good coyote load/predator load for predators that roam your property during the day or nite 👍

That's crazy how shallow the penetration is. Try Vmax projectiles. PSA has AAC 110 grain Vmax for 60cents per round. As long as it's reliable in your gun, you'll get so much more extra training and trigger time bc of cost savings. Tools&Targets has a video testing 110 Vmax from a 8 or 9 inch barrel in gel and was getting 16-17 inches penetration and less explosive initial fragmentation. It performed very well.

Ya BUT... Those loaded by aac will have 10 to 20 percent less energy than those load. In fact my 10.5 won't even shoot the aac very well but it loves this load. It needs a hot load and aac is not it.

Maybe I’m very ignorant to this subject but are the vitals really deeper than 10 inches inside the body?

There's a lot of variables to account for. Angle the subject is at, if your bullet has to go through an arm or enter him sideways, clothing they're wearing, if it hits a bone, etc. Ballistics gel is all just ballistics gel, it can't simulate those different variables. The guys that made the 12-18" standard were surgeons, ballistics experts and the like. Actual subject matter experts, and the FBI still uses that standard to this day, including for rifle ammo. They made that standard so that no matter what the scenario is, the given load has the highest chance of hitting vital organs. They're not counting on a perfect, unmoving, frontal shot.

This bullet done exactly what it was intended to do and performed better then expected out of a short pistol barrel....the bullet isn't designed for deep penatration like your wanting...especially out of a short barrel where you loose velocities to begin with.....nice to see the velocities are still better then expected out of a pistol barrel.....barnes tac-tx is your better choice if wanting a bullet that will perform out of your truck gun lengh.....

Looked pretty violent to me🤷‍♂️. I’d say this would incapacitate very well in a closer range, self defense scenario. I know I wouldn’t want to get hit with that, for SURE.

I would guess if you slowed it down a bit, you'd have more penetration. So if you could reload them and get the velocity right, you may get the penetration you want.

This is a serious question so please excuse my ignorance re: ballistic gel. For a self-defense round, why would you want between 12 - 18 inches of penetration when the human torso is roughly 11 inches from front to rear? Is the ballistics that different in clothed humans with bones?

Because penetration in ballistics gel isn't the same as penetration in a human body. Ballistics gel is the same material, all throughout. A human body is made up of many different materials, bone, sinew, flesh, muscle, tendon, various organs. The smart people at the FBI Ballistics Lab did their studies and found that if a round penetrates 12-18" in gel, it should also penetrate deep enough in a human body to reliably hit vital organs. 17" of penetration in gel isn't the same as 17" in a human body.

Various personal issues, mostly. Moved to San Antonio a year ago, it's nice but I do miss living in the country, not a huge city. Money problems too, my last job in IDOC was decent money but nothing as good here. Add on top of that I'm moving again in a few months.

Definitely not a good self defense round. Certainly wouldn't use it to hunt deer with at least not from an 8 and half inch barrel. But as you said ,its a varmint rd. Good educational video.

A varmint round at 308 velocities. Slow it way down, like chambering it in 300blk and it may not act the same
