This guy is the modern day Barry Fry… What a character, refreshing to see that there is still some characters left in the game and it’s not just full of sports science geeks. I first saw clips of him on tik tok and thought what an absolute bellend… I then watched the Dorking Wanderers episodes on bunch of amateurs and researched their history and must say I was totally wrong… What a top man who knows the game inside out and seems to have a heart of gold. What an incredible job he’s done at Dorking and I hope they keep on going!

Absolutely love Marc and his story. He won't take much credit but to take a football club from the park leagues to the top tier of Conference football in 20 years is such an underrated achievement...all while running his own successful company on the side. I take a lot of inspiration for what he has achieved and I don't think people realise how smart he actually is. What he has done takes some fucking doing.

Fascinating listen. Especially refreshing to hear his views on coaching badges. I think a lot of amateur coaches feel they are being priced out of earning them. You're looking at £10k+ to do a UEFA Pro Licence. Even the FAW UEFA C Certificate costs upwards of £500. That's before you even go into the time commitments which is basically impossible for anyone with a full-time job and family. Football is a broad church and the coaching badges have become yet another elitist form of the game so it's great to see people keen to push us towards making them optional and not mandatory for certain levels of football competition.

A lot of the respect from oldham fans comes from that first game. Before the game a lot was made by the media about how different the two clubs were. An ex premier league club facing a team only a few years ago were in front of four men and two dogs. There were 9000 there for that game, it really was a party atmosphere and despite the difference is size of the two clubs, Dorking we’re outstanding. We (oldham) won 3-2 but Dorking were the better team that day comfortably. I remember after the game a lot of oldham fans stayed behind and clapped Dorking off. We both began our Journey in this league together and I personally have a lot of respect for them. I was delighted when they started to pull away from the relegation zone last year.

My progression as a referee was prematurely stagnated by the sort of incident Marc describes. I was a linesman on the Isthmian League and had to endure a tirade of abuse from a spectator for about an hour as soon as I pop a comment back at him he was outraged. Even reported it to the FA. The FA wrote to me, I replied giving a very detailed account of what had happened, never heard anything else of it. But it was clearly held against me by the league. My referee secretary of my feeder league told me my marks were better than a number of his referees that had been promoted to the Isthmian middle yet I never was, I'm convinced that was the reason.
