wrapping fabric when wet allows you to wrap it tighter. the moisture evaporates on the first heat cycle, so there's no drawback. when weapping dry, however, the heat cycle will loosen the wrap leaving you with flappy heat wrap =)

I have that same transmission(albeit in a BMW) and I've got a short shift kit with the tall shifter similar to you guys. I absolutely love the feel of the crisp shifts from the SSK with the super low effort of the long shifter. Also it's nice how the tall shifter falls to hand right off the wheel.

If you haven't already seen it check out the pulley setup on the boosted bois K24 STI. You might be able to do it the same way. It seems really clean and uses a D-series civic tensioner pulley.

Don't forget that Stripping Tech can do ceramic coating. We have been shoving lots of big turbo 2j HP through our coated stuff for 2 seasons with heat wrap on top. Redid a bunch of of the heat wrap in the spring and it looks exactly the same.

Never soak the wrap, it removes a coating on it that helps with insulation, you just dampen it so that it stretches more and when it dries it makes it tighter. Use the silicon spray on the piping to stop corrosion.

Funny you should mention burning yourself with a ring. I dropped spatter on my ring 2 weeks ago. Haven't been able to take my ring off for 6 years. Just had to deal with it. Swelled up HEAPS and got infected and just hurt. Almost healed now!

Wet wrap = no itchy fiberglass in the skin. Also goes on tight and the water evaporates quickly on the first start. I doubt it makes the pipe rust any quicker than dry.

brian hilligoss Another option that’s common in my field is silicone rings, I don’t know how they stand up to heat but they save your hand from fatigue when using wrenches, hammers, shovels, and anything else that you grip. It sounds like an overreaction but those repetitive gripping or squeezing motion really affect your hand after a while. Also congrats!

True story, a guy I used to know was welding with his gold wedding ring on. He was welding overhead and a big goober of weld fell down, melted through his welding glove and landed directly on his wedding ring. Gold is an excellent heat conductor and the full heat of the molten metal transferred into his ring instantaneously. The ring, now red hot, melted through his skin all the way to the bone. Not fun. Don't wear a ring while welding.
