Unhoused Living in Venice Restrooms

I worked with the homeless and mentally ill population for about 23 years. There are homeless people who could be given a million dollar free home with one rule You can't smoke cigarettes, crack, meth or anything else inside the home. I guarantee there would be many who who have to be evicted back to the streets. I don't feel sorry for them, I know they are on the street for a reason and many of them have burned bridges in the county in which they are served.

Yep, you’re absolutely right. On Hastings Street Vancouver Canada, there are dozens of empty apartments rooms, due mostly to the fact that they don’t want to abide by their strict anti drug/alcohol rules in place, to protect other recovering tenants. They choose drugs over shelter and a hot meal, 99% of the time. This is exactly why I can’t stand those who blame lack of housing, when in fact there are many vacancies…….for those who want to live clean!

I read a week ago that a new law has been passed down there. It's against the law to remove the people out of where their living and that includes the restrooms. They can ask them to move so they can clean but nobody can stop them from going right back in and living in the bathrooms

Lock it at night and before they do,have some card for the homeless to go to or where the Shelters are,food,job training when locking it at night.This should be done every night.

I volunteer to clean beaches every month and one time this unhoused man told me it's not homelessness that has me here its drugs ...drug addiction has me here ... 🤔 most out here don't want to comply with simple rules to gain housing they want to live freely unfortunately that means everyone else has to live around them ... I haven't thought the same since ... thank you to everyone involved in cleaning this it's a thankless and horrifically dirty job

Long Beach uses a Hose to spray the whole place clean and wet inside so nothing is left on the ground.Oh yea,they Rebuilt the bathrooms into better cleaner bathrooms presumably with a facet for that hose to clean the bathrooms.

Endless problems with the homeless with the public restrooms leaving them nasty 🤢 with all there trash etc I really don’t understand why don’t the city put new locks on the doors where the homeless can’t lock them from the inside or the city should have electric try locks of some kind or have lock panels where people have to pay to use the restrooms some thing these restrooms are not a hotel the city might as well tear the restrooms buildings down.

Has gotten a lot worse, since I was there last , in Nov 2000. They want to keep putting band aids on the problem, rather than solving it. Gotten worse in every major city, in the country. Bathroom cleaning time again! With these people living in and locking the doors on the restrooms, doesn't it make sense just to lock the bathrooms up at night? Nobody can use the restrooms anyway, since they are locked from the inside with squatters living there all week. Lock them up at night, then more people can use them during the day. I would not be too happy to rush to a bathroom with diarrhea, and find they were all locked from the inside by squatters.

There's been a new law pass down there. It's against the law to remove the homeless from there homeless living and that includes the toilets. They can ask them to move such as move over to another street so they can clean the streets but they cannot stop them from living as they are living in tents all over the place in toilets in public places etc
