Shadow God I guess I should clarify. I should have said they were more comfortable than the other two. I like the 3 color desert myself, but I believe the ACU tested better. But like CavKing said, it was probably money/politics. Even in the military you can’t escape that BS. I do know that the ACU was much better at hiding you while being viewed through NVGs though.

Had no idea this cut existed, thanks for sharing! Ugh, gotta love the turn of the century and everyone's fascination with Velcro. It's great until your pocket snags in vegetation and you hear a loudass rip in an otherwise still day, or when the stuff loses its hook over time. Velcro has its uses, but most closures really ought to just be buttons. They're simple and so easy to repair.

Wow! I didn't even know these existed! I was in Iraq for all of 2004. At the time, even DCUs were in VERY short supply. We didn't get our desert uniforms until we were IN theater. This resulted in everyone having to cart around 8 fucking uniforms for the duration. My unit managed to snag 3DES pattern ECWCS parkas, and I still have mine. ALL the rest of our equipment was still woodland or OD. As we were preparing to leave country, we were advised we'd be giving our replacements our uniforms, like directly. Go find a soldier your shape, give them your uniforms. Luckily that didn't eventuate, and our replacements had uniforms by the time they got in country. When we returned to Germany, we were VERY early in receiving our ACUs. I PCSed to 1st CAV at Ft. Hood and was literally the first soldier in the division with ACUs. As in, the division was NOT going to allow anyone to wear ACUs until they'd received their basic issue. I shipped all my woodland stuff household goods, so I fucked up the big rollout, and everyone just started wearing ones they had purchased on the economy.
@mokomothman57133 жыл бұрын
You know, being prior service myself, it fucking puzzles me how inept rollouts for the ACU were, let alone other gear that's commonplace now. We can ship across the world in less than 24 hours, but you can't rollout a uniform because you rely on the traditional logistical system? Seriously?

I liked the idea of an 3 color desert uniform with ACU cut, but who else hates the excesive use of velcro? Especially in cargo pockets and wrist, buttons are better\ As a sugestion i would like a vídeo about russian patterns like Partizan SS or digital flora, or patterns from Slovakia like their new digital camo
@gobblox384 жыл бұрын
They eventually learned their lesson with Velcro on the cargo pockets. I was happy to get multicam in Afghanistan since those had buttons.
@JoeWalker984 жыл бұрын
Velcro on cuffs, means you'll always be retightening it to your wrist, and that one time you finally got it perfect and its staying, its just before you need to undo it for something😑 buttons and zips, with velcro for the less used pockets are the way forward.
@blairbuskirk54604 жыл бұрын
Velcro is so stupid for use on combat uniforms. Velcro is noisy and easily dislodged once debris is introduced to the loops, limiting the hooks ability to grasp. Buttons are quiet and easily replaced if broken. Zippers are a bit of a mid ground in the noise and ease of repair departments. However buttons tend to fail less completely than either when they do break down. A busted zipper is a gaping hole, lint clogged velcro doesn't stay closed, most button closures on large openings use multiple buttons so if one goes there is still another to hold the gap closed. Not to mention anyone with a needle and thread can replace a button even if you need to make a toggle style one out of a twig or spent bullet case.
@nunyabusiness49043 жыл бұрын
Button closures will always be better to me than zippers or velcro, velcro is noisy and gets bits of lint and debris stuck in it and if you want it to not look like shit you have to pay attention when closing it on the OCP chest pockets, zippers like on the OCP sleeve pockets don’t always like to close if you aren’t holding the cuff.

Thanks for making this video! I saw lots of CU/CCU in Kuwait in December 2003 as one of the Stryker Brigades deployed from there into Iraq. The chest pockets open toward the coat zipper to allow for their access while wearing the body armor of the time, the Interceptor Body Armor (IBA), which opened and closed with velcro down the middle of the chest.

Most of the info I could find on it was limited and from forums so this video filled in a lot of details. As you were narrating I went through my shirt and and you pretty much covered every feature it has. Only thing my example that seems to be lacking is the care instructions (it doesn't appear it ever had one), the only label it has is the one on the base of the neck with the designation, sizing and contract code on it.

Would be interesting if you went over the US use of the Israeli MARS sight during the early parts of the 2000s. You can see it in some of the pictures in this video and since it wasn’t issued on a wide scale, I can’t find lots of info on it,
@HydramaticM16A1974 жыл бұрын
From what I can tell as pointed out by a few US servicemen who deployed to Iraq a few times, from their own personal accounts, they mentioned the MARS were used as an interim item to make up for the lack of other optics. Mind you that when the US went into the invasion of Iraq, there seemed to be his "hodge podge" mix of stuff being used. It even branches out side of stuff like optics. As for the MARS, they showed up shortly after the invasion phase of Iraq, then started being sighted throughout the early years of the insurgency phase, this being around 2004-05. You can also see some photos of them being used with the M249 as well. I have heard it mentioned by at least another couple of vets, which seem to indicate they were not used anymore after 2006. Mind you I am no expert on this kind of thing but I have done a little digging when I started coming across pics that had the MARS in use.

When I was first in, during the 1980s & 90s, I went to a small unit warfare school, that was being taught by SF. They had done the sleeve pocket mods, and we all copied them, as these were MUCH more functional on our sleeves than they were on our fronts, as that was either covered by webbing, or being laid on while prone. 15 years later, they adopted it due to the wearing of body armor (something we didnt wear, as a rule, back then)
@rider660r Жыл бұрын
That's nothing new in the 80's and 90's,SOG (which was majority made of Army SF members) was putting those pockets on the sleeves back in the 60's as you said...because of the gear blocking the lower front or laying on them. They did a lot of modifications to their uniforms to cope with their Ops and a lot have found their way into the regular service units.

The rear pockets would just get caught on everything from aircrafts cargo seats to doors and drawers. As for the removal of the lower pockets, soldiers had been doing that for years anyway as you couldn't put anything in them because they set directly behind the your web gear belt and pouches. Also if operating in wet areas the higher your pockets the better, so that is why soldiers would remove the waisted lowers and remount them on the on the upper arms. Also when in a prone position it was difficult to retrieve anything from the chest mounted pockets.

There should also be another tag on the inside of the left breast area. The NSN/Contract No. is usually some long 13 numeric/alphanumeric combination like SP0100-03-D-0351 or SPM100-04-D-0367 Hopefully this allows you to identify what you have. CCU and CU wasn't a camouflage pattern as much as it was a continually iterative Uniform Layout that was made available in multiple camouflage patterns. A BDU camo MOPP suit isn't an uncommon thing. We were still training with them in 2018. They were available in the desert camo, too.

Its just a MOPP suit, or in civillian terms, Chemical Protective Suit. It's worn to do just as the name states, protect the wearer from harmful gases and chemicals. Theres a pair of pants to go with the jacket. Those suits are easy to come by and are usually pretty cheap. They were very common in the initial invasion of the Iraq War as many feared the use of chemical weapons by Saddam Hussein.

I like the new hot weather ocps the cut is awesome nice and light and they look good, and they be better if the color didn't fade so quickly in African water. Granted that stuff will eat anything, 1 was here and they looked salty already... such is life

CCU PATTERN LOOKS MORE APPROPRIATE FOR NORTH AMERICAN DESSERT REGIONS. I LIKE MULTI-CAM VARIANTS AROUND THE SAME COLOUR SCHEMES ANYWAYS. WOODLAND AND TIGER STRIPE OLDIES BUT GOLDEN.

This uniform is literally the DCU pulling the hip pockets and sewing them on the sleeve--that's all it is. Re: why did this uniform exist? Simple-- the body armor covered all pockets on the top. So, this designed was used to have an easy, accessible pocket to store something on each side. Hint: Fort Bragg has a few sewing shops outside the post which make a killing--pardon the pun.

I was able to use the lower shirt pockets with the OBV on. I thought they we're the most useful pockets on the uniform, but they were removed for some reason. Probably because a desk jockey preferred aesthetics over function.

Why was the deployment patch above the flag? Looks super odd that way.
