The wife advancing the salary means she got the company to pay her his salary before he earned it. Thus, putting him in debt. I think the note early on talking about someone else in the lighthouse is actually the current lighthouse keeper talking about the husband hiding in the lighthouse after the wife and child were killed.

Hi Gab, you asked about a couple of things: 1) "MAZ" is the mirror image of "Sam" (our character's name). This reflection of the name is the only link I can come up with and it makes us the same person as this serial killer. 2) the hallway with the doors that have 4 digit numbers on them (e.g. 1204, 1217, 1224) are dates in "MMDD" format and they tell the chronological order of what happened to you. 1204 - arrive at lighthouse island. 1208 - fill oil for the lamp. 1217 - bought a ticket to sneak home for a quick visit (and get the toy for your kid on sale per the flyer). Then 1218 doesn't go so well... a "leap of faith" (though I think quite a bit is lost in translation). 3) "It'll never happen to me" --> "Why did it happen to me? I didn't do anything wrong!" scene references his wife's adultery. The thing with the cans still confuses me. Swallowing those cans of beans whole, like a pelican, as instructed (sort of). But they were "garden peas" according to the label?

Best I can figure, dude worked at lighthouse for years, his wife used him for his money, a line Gab missed (not sure why it skipped over itself) implied she also cheated on him, guy decides to come home early and kills his family discovering her infidelity. No idea where the serial killer fits in and the term "Serial Killer" didn't exist until the 1975, so this thing is weird all over.

I get the impression there's a lot lost in translation, but the primary story impression that I got was that it was hinting he killed them, but then the twist was that they were killed when he was out at sea, and he only learned of it from a delivered newspaper, and the ferryman reminding him about buying a toy for his kid before he got home was a cruel irony. To me, the progression of the story was him and his wife growing apart as money got tight, as she from the beginning didn't care about him as a person, and his long work away from home lead to his kid not caring for him, either. His wife made it even harder for him by requesting forwards on his paychecks from his boss, who kept pushing harder and harder as his work slipped. In a cruel twist, as he plans to get a gift for his kid before he gets home for Christmas, he learns partway through his stay that his family was killed by the serial killer, with people not realizing he was gone at the lighthouse, followed by him descending into alcoholism (which may have already been started), and possibly being tempted to hang himself before he leaves, but managing to not, then going to the boat where the captain unknowingly reminds him of the trauma, or the temptation occurring after he gets to shore, with his final fate not clear to me.

I feel like some clues were lost in the darkness, literally. From the steam page : Swallow is a first-person psychological horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration. Based on a true story, describe an unsolved case that took place on an isolated island of 20th century England. Players take control of a lighthouse keeper to uncover the truth." I wonder what unsolved case they are referring to. I think he went home killed his family, for reasons, then racked with guilt he went back to the lighthouse and unalived himself. Now he haunts the lighthouse not realizing he's the ghost. I think the other people he's seeing are actually the current lighthouse keepers.

@JhonnyB6942 жыл бұрын
I think I know the plot...? Seems that his wife was cheating on him (her taking his paycheck early, rejecting him when he got home, the kid mentioning a "Uncle John", are the clues) Them, he discover it ("How this could happen to me?" bit) leave his post on the lighthouse, murder the family, and "frames" the MAZ serial killer. He goes back to the lighthouse and unlives himself. The fact that I can tell if this is just a guess or what actually happen is not a good sign, whoever. I'm all for unconventional storytelling, but if you can't understand the story, well... Not much of storytelling anymore right?

There was also the boat ticket from December 18 that she picked up. I'm wondering if the lighthouse keeper might actually be the MAZ serial killer and he went to the mainland that day to kill? Or maybe that was the day he discovered his wife having an affair... idk.

You know what's even worse? The radio at some point uses a very modern news story saying something about a wife shooting her husband and making it look like he "unlived" himself. Using sound bites in the style of TV news is already hilarious given the time period the game is supposed to take place. But throwing a pointless red herring making me think that the wife faked her oof is next gen confusion. Or maybe it was the other way around and the husband did the deed. And I misheard what I genuinely believe was a word per word excerpt from a 2000s evening newscast.
@JhonnyB6942 жыл бұрын

are the Taiwanese characters for Swallow those meaning the verb swallow or the bird? I related the don’t kill the seagull to a swallow which is also a bird, but is connected to land areas rather than sea like seagulls. Perhaps the lighthouse keeper is the seagull and the wife is the swallow. That’s a pretty metaphorical interpretation though!

But all I gathered from this was the wife used him for money, and he was angry, killed his family under the radar while their was a serial killer on the loose, I guess. And then he d worded himself. But also serial killer wasn't even a term until the late 1970s early 1800s. So what a mess really. Don't get the name either
