Reminds me of a simpler time when people really cared about others, instead of electronics or other material things. I hope their show is a success and that they don't fall into the pitfalls of scandal, like another large tv family did.

I haven't watched the Bates', but as someone said, maybe Dugger show is more staged...or produced in settings set up by the producers...Also, remember that personalities of people can make a difference in the way the interact with others...some people are very reserved...others more outgoing...

It's common for siblings to be less affectionate towards their siblings when parental responsibilities are enmeshed with sibling responsibilities. The Bates children help each other out with parental instruction. The Duggar children give and enforce parental instruction.

That's because the Duggars had to worry about INCEST. The Bates seem to have a stronger moral compass. All the children seem to genuinely love each other AND others. The Duggars however seem to love themselves and their image....many of the older girls seem extremely VAIN....I've not seen the vanity with the Bates family, even with the girls being BEAUTIFUL...they don't completely focus on their outward appearances....the duggar girls do.....the more makeup the better for them. I used to like them, but the more seasons I watched, the less I liked of the families characters.....a few of them seem to be sociopathic...like daddy Duggar.

It seems like although their family is large as well they seem more personable with their children and affectionate. Gil goes to appointments and you see them using endearing terms and seem warmer with their children. They seem happier as a family. I like the Duggar family too but to me the Bates family is more refreshing to watch.

I am one of a very large French catholic beloved family ..I compare us standing in between the two televised families ..never, ever would we dare criticize our upbringing..of course us elder children put in more than our share as our parents both worked 2 jobs to pay mortgage, we never ran out of food ..we were privileged to music lessons, scoutism, dance and gymnastics ..we were very aware that our papa broke the alcoholism plague from his LARGE FAMILY ..as adults we mend our downfalls with the offending sibbling ..end of story ..Bravo Bates ❤ family..moi, 🇨🇦

Gil and Kelley seem like the genuinely are interested in what their kids do and really support them. While I don't agree with their religious views, I respect them so much more than the Duggars. Jim Bob seems burdened by having so many kids while Gil gets in there and talks to the kids on their level. Plus the idea of "I love you day" would never go over with the Duggars.

I like Gil's personality and humor better than Jim Bob's. Gil seems sweeter and not so uppity about certain things and his jokes are actually funny and not rude-sounding. :P I still love the Duggars, but this family seems so much more like real and seem to really love each other. I can’t imagine why you would not agree with their religious belief. It is a basic belief in God, Christ. and the Holy Spirit, and that the Bible is the word of God. Now you may be Jewish or Muslim, but other than that their belief is the same as the basic belief of all other Christian denominations. The media has tried to make it seem like something strange and different. You might like to watch Pastor Gil Bates on Sundays where he is the pastor of East Tennessee Bible Baptist Church. It is live streamed on Sunday mornings and evening and also on Wednesday’s. He is a wonderful and inspired preacher. The children who are still at home go to church there and occasionally the others who are married will attend when they visit home. All the children who are married seem to be very active in the churches they attend near them.

While I still think their views are incredibly backwards and fucked up, the Bates do seem to genuinely love and enjoy their children. Jim Bob Duggar can't even fucking name half his kids, and Michelle is very obviously detached from all of them. The kids seem more like trophies to them. Gil and Kelly really show a lot of affection towards their kids. And I think Kelly showed more emotion over her sick newborn than Michelle ever showed over her premature daughter and later miscarriage.

This makes me so happy, especially the dinner and gifts at the end and how thankful they were for each other. I am an only child who came from a horribly broken family and a mother who wanted to ignore me all of my formative years, so I'll admit I'm rather hardened towards children and families because I haven't spent any time around them and don't know how to act. This actually made me well up a bit because having that love there is the most important thing, and fosters happy and healthy children and prosperous adults; I can attest that a horrible family environment or a bad/ abusive parent can make you physically unwell and struggle with your health. This family is sweet to see, they have good values and teach their kids, but don't go crazy with it, and to this day, they love on and spend time with all their kids and let them make their own decisions. Wonderful model of a family trying their best.

This happened to our son when he was born.I had a C-section and all of the fluids that usually get squeezed out while coming through the birth canal did not come out..I noticed as soon as they held him up for me to look at him that his was kind of grasping for breath and I asked if that was ok? and then they started working on him..He spent 3 days in the NICCU but praise God he came home with us on the fourth day with no more issues to worry about..

The Duggar kids all look so southern and plain with the exception of Jessa. Whereas the bates children are genuinely attractive (especially Lawson 😍). none are plain.

Southern and plain? Have you ever been to the south? I live in Alabama and I'll tell you that there are a lot of genuinely attractive people here, the difference between some of the things that the Bates and the Duggers do, is wear much more modest clothes and hairstyles and they wear very little makeup. These days females pretty much paint their faces on, use so many hair extensions, eyelash extensions, get spray tans, etc, that what you see is often not their real beauty. If you did up any of the Bates or Duggar girls in all that body paint that women wear these days, they would look just the same. I'd love a where are they now of sorts for the Bates, their energy is so refreshing. The sibling dynamic seems way healthier. Dad jokes are actually sigh funny instead of the cringey JB. Momma Bates seems to actually know her kids!! Just wholesome. Definitely a good quarantine break.

While I'm sure I could never birth and homeschool 19 kids, I think the Bates definitely manage to pull it off and maintain a happy life for themselves and their kids. While some (including myself) may not agree with everything the family does, I think it's important to recognize that the Bates aren't hurting anyone, and they are happy. On another note, as a future midwife, the ability to have 19 kids just fascinates me and puts me in awe of the female body.
