"The Wizard and I" foreshadows a lot of what happens to Elphaba's character. She sings "When people see me they will scream" (which Glinda does when Elphaba scares her at the end of what is this feeling), "There will be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me" (Which happens at the beginning of the movie when they're celebrating the wicked witch's death), and "I'd be so happy I could melt (I think this one is pretty self-explanatory).

In the beginning of the movie, we see a castle and someone running away in a horse. Is that Elphaba?

They made a reference to Mombi towards the beginning of the movie, which is a character in Return to Oz.

At the very beginning of the movie, the camera pans across a rainbow, after all, Oz is located "somewhere over the rainbow".

I’ve read the book Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West but haven’t seen the stage show “Wicked”. I’m chomping at the bit to see this movie, but I want to listen to the soundtrack beforehand.

@ I read the book on vacation, maybe around 2009. I might dig it out for a skimming refresher, but the story and characters are so vivid I remember a lot. In addition to Elphaba, there’s Madame Morrible, Dr. Dillamond, Nessarose, etc. Such a vivid story and characters!! Maguire really creates an Oz-set story which feels like it should have been there over a century ago when Baum created Dorothy Gale and Oz.
@quinnhouk536922 сағат бұрын
@@nickperkins8477 yeah. Although I thought they would include Turtle Heart as well and Elphaba’s first word which was Horrors from the book. That would’ve been interesting to see

In the tower some of Oz’s old carts from when he was a magician appear while Elphaba and Glinda are trying to escape.

Anyone else notice the wizard parodying Walt Disney? Using the Oz of tomorrow aka Disney’s iconic tv appearances Disney’s Tomorrowland & possibly mimicking Waltz flying with shadow imagery.
@OzmaPastorius3 күн бұрын
The shadow bit of Sentimental Man was meant to be a reference to Charlie Chaplin. The bit with the moon specifically was a reference to The Great Dictator (1940)

In the historical performance showing the origin of the wizard, when he "reads" from the book, he says "Omaha." He's from Nebraska.

in any scene dominated by greenery (especially the forest where Elphaba and Fiyero meet and release the lion cub), there are pink flowers, symbolising Glinda's presence in their story!

There is the circular pattern in the yellow brick road like in the original Wizard of Oz where Dorothy starts her walk to the Emerald City. Some of the guards including the one who announces "the Wizard will see you now" have the curly mustaches like they do in the original Wizard of Oz.

The umbrella part is also in the stage show, so I don’t think it’s an easter egg, unless you’ve never seen the stage version of Wicked.

Stephen Schwartz explained in Wicked: The Real Story, that the notes for “Unlimited” are the tribute to somewhere over the rainbow. Again, not an Easter egg in the movie. That’s how it was originally composed. But yes, the other musical queues were clever.

Gregory Maguire’s book “Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West “ is tremendous. Every bit an “Oz” classic book as anything written by L. Frank Baum, himself.

You know the one thing that I could never get over regarding the Wicked Story; that Gregory Maguire deliberately made Elphaba's sister as disabled. I mean, pretty much everyone and their mother knows what happens to her.
