Thank you very much for this, for these your videos! I did realise at my age of 37 that cyber security really could be passion of mine. I always did in IT only tier 1 win admin (which is basically little bit more expirienced user, honestly) or jobs in non-IT as a security. Your videos really helping me to inform myself and find out that this job could be something I want to really work on and I hope even love it.

Governance, risk, and compliance would be a good area to look at. You need to be able to work with the business and IT. Being able to convert "we could get hacked" into financial (and other) impact's that executive management and the board understands as an example. You need a high level conceptual understanding of the tech side as a minimum and be able to lean on others as required. You do ultimately need to have a solid technical understanding but GRC is an area you can start in from a business background.

I was planning on starting an online degree in either network engineering or cloud computing from WGU. I plan on taking the CISA exam this summer and work in IT audit for 1-2 years to get experience in the field and transition over to network engineering or cloud computing. If I am interested in cyber security which degree would you recommend and which has the highest career growth potential? Thank you for another banger video, new sub to the channel!

hey Jovani, getting an IT Audit at an accounting firm is an excellent start!! If you’re interested in cyber security then I see no reason for u to do either cloud or network engineering as those are different fielda on their own. Yes you will need understanding of networking and cloud to a certain extent but u dont need degrees in them I recommend u do a masters of cyber security from WGU, that will be the best compliment to your career

I’m 34, I work in technical support for a tech company. A sort of tier 2 support above the regular support where we specialise in one area. I’ve no computer science background and can’t code (I studied accounting and finance as a degree and didn’t like it which is why I’ve worked in tech support for 7 years). So I fear my background may be quite weak but I’m very interested in CS because it seems similar to some extent in how it’s chaos, and every problem can be quite different and requires troubleshooting based off your own learned knowledge. So there’s some skills there but would you think I’d be wasting my time trying to move into CS given my age and background as there is a lot of push for younger people to get into this and so a lot more competition against people who have a more computer science background. Thanks for your videos. They really are helpful!

What do you think of schools like general assembly or flat iron? I have a 5k grant and I want to use a school that can possibly get me in some doors faster than later, I’m not taking anything away from the google course either.

never heard of those schools, but if you are in the US do a degree from WGU, otherwise follow this roadmap: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoOtmpZuq6iimqcsi=AwfJO8pSqjB3O_ni

Once you do the NYU cyber security courses are they transferable to Australia certificate?
@UnixGuy

you don’t need to ‘transfer’, you can put on your CV that you’ve done them/ NYU is globally recognised so it’s recognised in Australia.

Hi good day mr UnixGuy! I am currently trying to get into the field of cyber security. I only have prior knowledge of C++ and a small amount of python knowledge from my Polytechnic school and it wasn't the core module since i was trained in the engineering field. What should I learn before trying to learn more about cyber security? My knowledge in terms of programming is still not that great.

A lot goes into a job than just a degree, as I explained in the video above. Bachelors can help, but more companies nowadays are ok with people not having a degree. It can definitely help, its just another way to learn the subject

I need some help, I am currently in University in 2nd semester, 6 more to go but I am extremely willing to learn penetration testing till my graduation, I have search lots and lots of videos, blogs etc and they say that 1st step is to learn networking and maybe together with linux? but I dont know why but networking seems so boring! can you suggest me someway to take a network course like network+ certification(probably not for certification for now, but for knowledge) in an engaging manner? if you did learn networking what was your way of learning it? as for just getting knowledge do i have to markdown important points on paper? I dont know my mid is just going crazy just thinking about how to properly learn networking, Any tips from would be greatly appreacited Thanks!
