Hey everyone, it's Mike Wong from EastWest Physiotherapy. Have you been waking up with stiff and sore knees, wondering if there's a natural way to relieve the pain? Whether it's from working out hard in the gym or working hard in the yard, acupressure can be incredibly effective in alleviating knee and leg soreness.
In today’s video, I'm going to show you a routine to help with this. You can use it on the knee and leg that hurt, but surprisingly, you can also apply it to the knee that doesn’t hurt, giving both knees an overall health boost.
Acupressure Points for Knee Relief
Let's explore four amazing acupressure points that can help relieve knee pain and stiffness:
1. Stomach 34 (Ridge Mound)
Location: About 2 inches above the top, outside the border of the kneecap, in a small divot.
How to Apply Pressure: Use your fingers to press firmly on this spot for 1 minute. If your fingers get tired, you can use the sharp edge of your elbow.
Benefits: Improves numbness and coldness in the legs and feet, and helps with lower back pain.
2. Gall Bladder 34 (Yang Mound Spring)
Location: About 1 inch down and towards the middle of the head of the fibula, in a tender depression.
How to Apply Pressure: Press here for 1 minute using your fingers.
Benefits: Fantastic for tendon issues, musculoskeletal problems like knee pain, hip pain, and sciatica. Also helps with stiffness in the neck, shoulders, and elbows, and is good for tennis elbow.
3. Spleen 10 (Sea of Blood)
Location: About 2 inches above the top border of the patella, in the bulge of the VMO muscle.
How to Apply Pressure: Apply pressure to this tender region for 1 minute.
Benefits: Great for treating menstrual and skin disorders, improves blood circulation, and nourishes the blood.
4. Spleen 9 (Yin Mound Spring)
Location: Directly below SP10, on the inside of the lower leg, in a depression formed by the medial condyle of the tibia and the posterior border of the tibia.
How to Apply Pressure: Press firmly on this spot for 1 minute.
Benefits: Reduces swelling and pain in the knee and lower leg, and alleviates abdominal issues like diarrhea and stomachaches.
Tips for Using Acupressure
Repeat Regularly: You can repeat these four points throughout the day.
Use Both Knees: Applying pressure to both knees can provide additional benefits.
Be Gentle: Apply firm but gentle pressure. If it hurts too much, ease up a bit.
Stay Relaxed: Try to stay relaxed and breathe deeply while applying pressure.
