Hygge has been my whole foundation making a home for my family of seven. We lived in the Netherlands and their word is ; Gezellig. I've raised my family with simple concepts of creating a warm, welcoming home. Fresh flowers, candles, beautiful lamps, music and the aromas of home cooked meals and cakes. As I home schooled my five children for twelve years and didn't have a car in this time; home was everything. Filled with books by wonderful authors, spending time in Nature, caring for our family pets, entertaining other families, was our lifestyle. I just love simple pleasures. Aromatherapy is paramount. You don't need lots of money. As I've taught my children; a simple, home cooked meal with love, some flowers from the garden, candles burning and lovely music is all you need to create: Hygge. Thankyou Sandra for reminding us of how important it is to Stoke the home fires. To create and maintain a beautiful sanctuary, shelter from the storms of Life, a safe Harbour. We all can do this ❤️🙏❤️🌹🏵️🌷🥀🌻🌼🏡💐💞🌝🌸🌺🏵️💖🥀🌷💐💗

I have an old worn chair my husband loved. Although it doesn't smell like him anymore I get the feeling of being wrapped in his arms when I am there. I snuggle under a quilt my grandmother made for me with a carafe of hot chocolate and usually a book or movie that makes me cry and a fire in the fireplace, the flames dancing on the walls around me. It is truly as you described, a beautiful moment in time, a snapshot of happiness. This video made me think about how wonderful a moment can be. Thank you so much my dear friend 💖. I will think of you when the first snow hits us up here!😊

My family has been using these concepts of a warm home/selfcare for over 50 years. We remove shoes at the door and go barefoot inside. I practice foot Reflexology daily. I have always loved nature as i was brought up on a farm. Like you, I collect pinecones, nuts, and other things I find on the ground to put in clear glass jars I use as vases. Salt lamps are wonderful for calming especially during these last few years. My schoolteacher daughter has found using one in her Kindergarten classroom helps the students stay calm. Another daughter is a Massage Therapist. Selfcare is not selfish. Many Thanks from Arkansas for sharing. I love your videos. I am praying for you and your sweet Arthur.

My husband and I are senior citizens and enjoy plants, gardening, wild life, etc. A few years ago, we added a four season room on the back of our house. At the end of summer when we are cleaning up the yard, I bring the house plants in . I had a local carpenter build three low tables and set them along the windows and they are lined with plants. Right now the Cyclamen and Thanksgiving Cactus are in full bloom of beautiful pinks, reds and white. I didn’t put any curtains on the windows so that we have full view of the changing colors of the trees and watch the cardinals, doves, juncos and blue jays come to feed. My husband and I love to sit out there whether it’s sunny, raining or snowing. It’s so calming and nature is just beautiful. Thank you Sandra for your beautiful videos and charming personality.

My mother's second husband was Danish and she spent the majority of her life in Denmark. It became my second home and I became familiar with their way of life. What impressed me was the gentle thoughtfulness of the country. Whenever you see an attractive view across lakes or woods you will surely find a bench or carved out seat, because someone thought you may wish to spend time there to enjoy it. Tea lights and candles are a consistent feature of their homes, even to the point of lighting one at the breakfast table during winter. Also the way of finding a place for everything that provides an order without an overharsh minimalism. It has provided me with way to add atmosphere to your home surroundings.

One of my sisters took my Mom (who had dementia) for a walk. She went up to a tree, hugging it, she recited this poem. Before she couldn’t read anymore I had her read to me. As she read she would stop to tell me about things I never knew about which reading apparently brought to mind. What a wonderful surprise as she was at a point we couldn’t have conversations. Thank you for sharing!

And interesting fact about dementia or Alzheimer’s. Tony Bennett did a full concert with Lady Gaga and could remember everything and all the lines to his music. When he get off the stage within minutes he couldn’t even remember he did a concert. Same thing with Glenn Campbell when he was and heavy Alzheimer’s. Muscle memory. How wonderful that you had those conversations with your mother. You are very lucky to have had that time with her.

Another great topic. I read a book on this about 3 years ago. I definitely need to bring out my salt lamp again, and I have a diffuser or 3 or 4 :) but I got out of the habit of using them. I definitely love to cook and have our home quiet and stress free as much as I can. We definitely use a lot of fuzzy blankets. Often times our little Chihuahua figures out a way to use them all at the same time :) I got some small little lamps to put on the kitchen cabinets, and I always love when they are on but forget to do it. As much as I pay attention to lots of details, this video reminds me that I am forgetting many too. For the longest time I've really only liked to listen to music with no words. I love Steven Halpern and his music. He has one called Chakra Suite and my dog LOVES it! I often leave it playing for him when we leave. It's so relaxing and it almost instantly relaxes him into sleep. It's the cutest thing. I will say do you want to listen to your meditation CD and he will come running over and lay down.

I agree with everything you said & I have always found pleasure in doing all these things. A cozy home is just my happy place. However, it’s been so difficult the last few months to get motivated to decorate or even to focus on reading a book. It’s like why bother when I’m the only one here to enjoy. Bad attitude I know, & that’s a little COVID depression. I’ve turned to KZbin for entertainment & now that’s getting old. I do enjoy your channel. I’m 79 & live in a condo in a nice senior community. Neighbors don’t seem to want to visit in your home, but do gather outside in a driveway to visit in small group & social distance. That is a blessing. Thanks for your wonderful suggestions. I’m ordering Himalayan salt lamp today. You know, I remember you & your husband saying in a video, that it was important to have something to look forward to and that is so true. Looking forward to its arrival. I have a beautiful family, but with school age & college grandchildren, I have to keep my distance. I have a blessed life, but lack of motivation is not good. Happy Thanksgiving.

Pat, you are not alone. I think all of us are so over Covid that it’s not even funny. I miss my children and grandchildren desperately. But you are important and your happiness is important so treat yourself to all the coziness that you can create in your home. You deserve it. Even though no one else is around you are deserving of uplifting environments. It’s nice that you live in a senior community where there is some type of outside socialization. That is very lucky for you. Hopefully, this too shall pass in the future. In the meantime a cozy home is your happy place and enjoy it.❤️

Thank you Melinda. Sophie absolutely loves the dog biscuits that I made for her. I think she knows when they’re in the oven that she can recognize the smell of the treats she’s going to have when they’re done. We have been in lockdown here for almost 10 months and other than the fact that I can’t be with my family and perhaps visit the museum once in a while. I am content.❤️

Excellent video! We are both in our 80's and feel better than ever! We are all about healthy aging to prevent and reverse disease. The key is to retain a strong body, a calm mind, and a positive outlook. Getting older at any age does not have to mean getting sicker. We're doing research on sites like this to make our new Health-Aging Advice channel a success. We hope to inspire others and pass along a bit of wisdom. Learned a lot here. Thank you.

I'm a new sub and I really enjoyed this video! I read a different book about hygge and we practice it in our home. After reading the book I realized that my urge to bring nature inside and to use soft lighting, warm candles, and fill our home with textures that mimic nature (wicker baskets, warm blankets, a few plants, things made from wood, stone, and even metal) gives me the feeling of hygge~~that's what I love about those things. I look forward to more from your channel. God bless!
@lifewithsandrahart3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%. Your home doesn’t have to be a great big house in order to make it cozy. By just bringing in textures from the outside and the warmth of candles and scents that are calming, even the smallest space can take on hygge feeling. Thank you for sharing what you have done in your home to create that sense of cozy Happiness.

It’s a mindset...no matter your struggles, no matter how real they may be...you can still find some positivity in your u fortunate circumstance. Whilst quite difficult, try and just look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. No matter what trials and tribulations you face, try and listen to positive podcasts...even watching minimalism videos help me to appreciate all I have...also, without spending any $, try and sit with yourself and talk to God. In your most quiet moments, he comes. This task, approached daily will invoke a sense of calm and hope. I wish you all the best 🙏
