Thank heaven! I have found someone on KZbin who likes order and cosiness but doesn't think that has to mean minimalism! I loathe the idea of living in a home that feels like an IKEA room set. Memories are precious and while I have little items around me handed down from the generations before me, it as though they live on.

I have found as I get older that none of my things make me happy. What makes me happy is connecting with people. I probably would never have said that 20 years ago. The stuff is just that, stuff. It doesn't talk to me or comfort me. But I enjoy beauty and peace and quiet in my home.
@lifewithsandrahart3 жыл бұрын
It is amazing as we age we realize that connections with people in our life is more important than things. That is why we can downsize and and eliminate so much stuff we have accumulated throughout the years. Humans are more important than things. You are right.❤️

Hi Sandra. We love all the same things in our homes, flowers, candles, photos of my children, and cozy places to curl up with a good book. Right now, we're taking a break from the apartment renovation, in Chiatura, Georgia, and are heading to Antalya, Turkey, for 2 months. I will buy a plant and candles for our Airbnb, like I always do when I'm staying in a temporary place. When we get back, and are ready to move into our own place, I'll be looking for an antique fainting couch, to be used in my cozy reading corner. Of course I'll have candles and flowers, and many vintage pieces, for our new space. Thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas with us. xx

Many people don't understand the importance of objects that hold sentimental value. They accuse you of being materialistic, or valuing objects more than people. They don't understand the memories attached and how those objects are symbols that allow you to relive those memories in a tangible way. I also downsized but was very glad that I still had room for the treasured items in my life. I like your video!

We retired and downsized and I tried to decorate the house in an uncluttered style. I took one of the bedrooms for my crafts including quilting, crochet, painting, miniature making...the list is long. I filled it with furniture and art I loved but had no place in the house, stacks of quilts and anything I love. Then I filled all the shelves with my trinkets and collectibles., anything goes in this room. It is very neat and tidy, but full. In 2020 I was diagnosed with cancer and ended up having 5 surgeries in a span of 14 months, all during these Covid lock downs. I can say with all honesty that having that room saved my sanity and life. I love your channel, I have been binging your videos. Thank you for your messages.

We must be sister's from another lifetime lol ... everything you have shown & speak about on this video is exactly how I choose to live, I'm not a hoarderer but a 'keeper' of what brings me joy, I surround myself with things that add fun, laughter, love, peace & comfort to the home (as do you) it's squirky chic & it gives me great pleasure when coming home, how correct you are when you say that your home should reflect you & your home comforts as we all have different tastes/styles but keeping in mind the simple functionality that your homes serves & that's comfort & cosy ... thank you again for "reminding" me to appreciate my space coz truth be told I can sometimes take my home for granted until something happens which 'wakes me up' to realise that I have bypassed my cosy comfortable sanctuary for fast-paced living, yip I know then I've gotta pause take a breather & inhale in my home & take in all the great senses, smells that I have created for reason THANK YOU for bringing me back💯🙏

I downsized from my house to my mom’s smaller home in the retirement community. She died two years ago. I just made the move two weeks ago. I gave away and donated so many things while I was packing. Today I gave away a 5x8 trailer full of furniture that I simply don’t have room for to a young couple I know. They were thrilled. I was even more thrilled to not have to ‘find a place’ to cram everything. I want to feel cozy and peaceful without feeling crowded. Once I am sure that furniture is placed where I will want it to remain, I will hang artwork etc. But I am sure that I will let more things go as that unfolds. Right now, I live alone. I am engaged but my fiancé and I have been separated by COVID border closure (US/Canada) since March 2020. My home is a perfect blend of my past and my present - but I must also leave space for my future to blend in with it.

A quote from Anne Morrow Lindbergh... "Framed in Space One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few. Gradually one discards and keeps just the perfect specimen. One sets it apart by itself, ringed around by space ---- like the island. For it is only framed in space that beauty blooms. Only in space are events and objects and people unique and significant ---and therefore beautiful. Even small and casual things take on significance if they are washed in space, like a few autumn grasses in one corner of an oriental painting, the rest of the page bare."

For sentimental items that will not fit into your space, take pictures of them. Then you can keep the memory even if you can't keep the item. If you like, you can make a photo album of those items so that you can look through it and bring back sweet memories.

Some things I felt sentimental about but made the choice not to keep I took pictures of so I would still have their images at least and I gave to family or friends. But I did bring with me one small crystal lamp that was my mother's in her house before that she had given me, and everytime I have it turned on I feel warm inside and think of her with love

Thank you for the wonderful video Sandra. What you say is true and this is the wisdom that comes with age. When i was young I didn't treasure the old things, i wanted everything new , but later in life when my parents were gone I need some material reminders of them, to make me feel safe and loved again. The old belongings have soul in them, life ❤

Hi Mrs. Sandra, in listening to you, I’m finding myself, the ways I feel about me & how & the apartment I’m. I’m now extracting my inner’s thoughts and finding love within “me.” ( self-love). Right now, I’m crying, not of sadness but of gratitude for the opportunities that God placed in you to detailed all of what you say for me and others to listen, feel, and act. May the Lord always continues to bless you, and your families.🙏

Dear Sandra, I just found this video. I cried almost from the beginning. I do all of the things you mentioned and so agree! I left my home in the states almost two years ago to move abroad, not so much my choice as it was my recently retired husbands. Leaving family and my home was very traumatic. I put all the things I loved in a room a few months prior to moving and would visit the room every couple of days. Funny how some things become important to us. I brought a little ceramic bunny with me. I'm now a minimalist that buys a lot of plants and candles! I so appreciate your words. So happy I found your channel! Much love to you.

Sandra! I have my mom’s train case! My parents did not have much so did not inherit anything of monetary value. My brother got our dad’s pocket watch and I got the train case and her glasses with the rhinestone wings on each side. They are very meaningful to me. Lovely video. Mandy from Tucson🌵

Oh Sandra, thank you for another beautiful calming video. I’m home this week icing and elevating my knee. And I fractured my hip in March. The music and your calming voice helped ease my anxiety💓. My Golden Retriever left his place next to me on the couch and went and laid down in front of the TV to watch you 🥰. I noticed your Jesus Calling book. I’ve been trying to read that every day. So glad you and your husband had a wonderful visit with your son and family. What a beautiful baby.

I absolutely love the old fashioned cosmetic cases, with the little mirror. I remember my Grandmother setting it on the kitchen table and applying her makeup. When I moved across the U.S. two years ago, I got rid of a lot of nice things. I only brought with me artwork, family pictures, computer and some of my antiques. Soft lighting and fairy lights add to sparkle and whimsy. I too love beautiful scents thru wax burners, incense, candles and wind chimes which are a must at my house and of course, a garden is very theraputic. Most of all, however, it in the making of friends with people who share your interests. As one here, who wrote in put it, it's in the connection with others that makes our lives rich, with family and friends. It's the gathering, the exchange of ideas, breaking bread with others and the shouldering of burden with each other that makes life sweet. Thank you for sharing all your beautiful thoughts!

One of my favorite friends has her spaces very carefully thought out, and she gave me a tour just last week. Even though I’ve been in her home on and off for 20 years, we never carefully went from corner to corner and room to room like that before, in her space. It is wonderful to share.My favorite new tip from you today was the book stacking
@lifewithsandrahart3 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not book stacking can be artistic and doesn’t have to look like clutter. When we moved here I never thought about the lack of storage, so I have had to really be creative in order to keep things that I love around me.❤️

I love this touching video ! It's so true. I've recently downsized to this tiny cottage that I love. I've had to let so much go. I'm still trying to get everything situated and it's a trial but I have things here that mean so much to me because I capture special moments in time with them. I am going to watch this video several times because it speaks to me. With "my stuff " and Jesus my home is a real home. Sending love your way! Gwenda

I am at peace outside. I am clear minded and can surround myself of beautiful memories throughout my life. Love and blessings, Sheila

Shelia, I love being out in nature, too. I think that’s why we chose this place because it’s open and I can be outside on the balconies and enjoy nature just stepping over the threshold. Also being close to the ocean is important to the ‘sea inside of me’. Have a wonderful week❤️

Sandra, how refreshing it is to hear your wise words. It is so important to have a place of quiet and sanctuary in these times. Somewhere where we can experience a space that is ours created by our hands, created with what feeds our soul. Opening the windows and allowing the air to move about in the home not only refreshes but clears away any ‘ stuckness ‘. Candles seem to illuminate an area and I love the smell. I often enjoy having a lit candle or two during the day when I’m home. Thankyou for reading the lyrics of that lovely song. The words are so true. Blessings to you. PS could we see Sophie please? 💕

Hi Sandra...WOW! Thanks for such a beautiful video. That is so very true. It is the little things...that create such ZEN moments. I always use a diffuser in my living room with an essential oil that suits my mood that day and always burn candles while taking a bubble bath. Every few weeks I will buy beautiful greens and baby breath and gorgeous fresh flowers and there is something about that in the home. It simply brings so much beauty and life indoors. Thanks again beautiful soul for brightening our day.
