your most welcome , currently this is part of Planar reflection and we hope epic team will solve this issue , but for such projects its recommended that you use Raytrace instead .

This is an amazing tutorial. I used this method to create a floating box of water that would not have been possible with Unreal's water system since that only works with landscapes. On the other hand can you please re link the caustic texture, the drop box link doesn't seem to work anymore. Thank you.

If your water material shows as default world grid, disable Nanite for the water mesh. Nanite doesn't support translucent materials (yet). EDIT: Also, if your caustics are not appearing, disable Nanite for the bottom of the pool, too.

That was one hell of a tutorial! hank you so much for this. I wonder, how you would approach a situation, when the planar reflection totally cover the bottom of the pool, including the caustics? The reflections take over, no matter what setting I use within the Planar Reflection :( Also, my pool is not square, it has a custom look. What can I do with the reflections in such situation, when square reflection actor does not fill the pool correctly? Thanks for your help in advance!!!

Your most welcom , appreciated theres is another more advanced technique that we will also do a tutorial on soon , currently you can place the planner or the sphere reflection and build the light to get the reflection effect

thanks , basically UE4 is one of the biggest engine for Developing real-time interactive Arch-Viz presentation with VR and AR and other cool stuff and also Free , Lumion currently is a the quickest software for quick render image with few efforts but with a lots of limitation and also not free

Hey Man this video is amazing! I'm working on pool projects currently and I was wondering something as I am not able to obtain any good result. Is it possible to the see the water movement from inside the water? I mean when you look at the water surface from the inside. My goal is to enter inside the pool in a VR model and when looking to the top be able to visualize the water movement also as you can see it when you are outside the pool! Thanks for those videos

Also i have 2 more comments. i am working very serious with this gift of a course. 1. The second directional light has to be orientered x:0, y: 90 and z:0 to make it cover the whole pool bottom. 2. I discovered that 2 planar reflections cancel each other out. They say it is a bug, but actually when i turn of the window planar reflection i can see pool planar reflection and when i turn pool planar reflection off i can see window planar reflection, but never both at the same time. What can we do about this in real time?? And also in ray tracing and stuff to make show both, any workaround?? I would be grateful for any solution.

Awesome tuts! I have a small problem with my caustics. It works fine except that it seems to appear to 'pulse' every six seconds i.e. the emissive power seems to flare for half a second and then go back to normal. It gives the appearance that two random patterns are overlapping at regular intervals. Any thoughts?

Hi there , thanks , so regarding the caustic issue , Can you please double check the panner node if both of them is connected to the texture coordinate node so they are getting the same if yes , please check also the speed values for both panners ,if you still facing a problem plz let us know thanks

@@oberdoofus Thanks for coming back , actually the problem of the cuastic being freezed for a second and start back can be avoided by adding a (rotator) node after the panner with a very low value like .001 on the speed and connect it to the texture sample , this will help get rid of that freeze problem , if not please let us know

Thank you , basically you add the 2nd directional light when you wanna use it on a separate channel like on our case we have used it to enable the caustics on the pool base but you can add as many directional light if u can change the channel and control where you wanna add it .

same problem here. if i put a non translucent material i have the reflection but with the opacity setting (as you describe in your steps) i dont have the house reflection. Same light set up, same HDRI and sun position. I have like a matte dusty water material

one of the things that we missed is to point out that you will need to tick the planer reflection support in the editor project , can you please check if its enabled or no , if u still face the problem please let us know

Thank you very much, i have done everything as your tutorial but i have problems with caustics, they do not show, all the walls are in the same light channel one, but i do not understand why they do not show at all even if i increase the light. They just show if i turn off the sunlight Solved: basically the sunsky actor has value of 75000 lux by default, i just went in its blue print and decreased the value to 200 lux.

everything works like charM till now except refraction, the refraction that i am getting on GLASS either too less or its starting to bend things out of shape (bit extremely) at certain angles.

Try first flip the planner , if still no reflection try reducing the water opacity and increase the reflection by increasing the metal value and reducing the roughness

hi there , the caustic will show when u hit the directional light to a surface and set both to same the same channel 1 for example , the important thing is that the surface you wanna show the caustic on should have the same light channel of the directional light hitting the custics through the map please let us know if it still not clear to you

@@cgs9667 ok can you try two things , one is to make sure the light is hitting that caustic alpha texture in the setting of the Directional light , 2nd increase the intensity of the light more and more and see if you start any caustics showing up

hi there thanks for your Q , basically you can easly think of them like Multiply node : is too darken the material or brighten it by using a color channel to multiply it by the texture for example Lerp node : is for mixing two materials together by bringing part of both using an alpha value

@@shariffaik5792 شكرا ليك وربنا يوفقك انت كمان مشطر اكتبلك بالانج عشان ماتتلخبطش في الكلام before you package your project make sure to setup the default map in your project setting to your level map , for example Arch viz 1 then change the same to be that the default map otherwise when you package and run it will show the default empty map

@@VitorCaldeira1980 to increase the emmisive power for the caustic to be visible you only need a scalar parameter and a multiplier , this should be working in UE5 can you share a printscreen for the shader layout , thanks
